GRADE 2 Reading End-of-Year Primary Reading Test

5/7/13 1

Directions for Administration

Broward County’s End-of-Year Reading test for second grade is designed to assess the Common Core State Standards. 1. Scheduling: Two session administration: Session 1, questions 1-20 should be administered on Day 1

and Session 2, questions 21-42 should be administered on Day 2.

2. Session time: The test is untimed and teachers should proceed at a pace appropriate for their students.

3. Directions: Teacher should read the directions below to students. Teacher should read (only) the

sample passage, questions (A and B) and answer choices to students. Teachers should not read items (1-42) to students. Students will bubble answer choices in the test booklet.

4. Script for Administration of Session 1, Questions 1-20:

Pause and check to make sure that students have cleared their desks before continuing. Distribute the test booklets. Hold up a test book and point to the student name. Check to see that all students have written their name on the line that says Student Name. Read the sample passage to the students. Read the sample questions and answer choices out loud. Allow students sufficient time to answer. Walk around the room to check progress. Once you see that all students have completed the sample passage, continue with these directions:

SAY Please make sure that nothing is on your desk, except your pencil.

SAY Today you are going to work on reading some passages and answering questions about them. Listen carefully and follow my directions. Do not open your test books until I tell you to do so. Look at the cover of your test book, please write your name on the line that says student name.

SAY Raise your hand at any time if you have a question. Open your books to the next page and put your finger on the sample story. Read the story quietly while I read it out loud.

SAY Look at the next page. You are now going to start your test. Read the story on each page carefully and select the correct answers to the questions. Continue working until you see a stop sign. This will be the end of session 1.

SAY Now read questions A and B, and their answer choices, while I read them out loud.

SAY You can see that question A has already been answered. Now, fill in the correct answer for question B.
