Fundamental Family of Schools Middle School Consultation On Thursday evening School District 35 hosted the first of a planned three part consultation meeting on Middle Schools. Presentations were made by Acting Superintendent Gord Stewart and Secretary-Treasurer David Green. Parents and community members then had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions to generate further questions or topics for consideration as the consultation moves forward. The second consultation meeting date, time, and location will be announces in February.

Congratulations to our two Grade 12 players, Jenny Lee and Alison Evens on their commitment to the Langley Fundamental Basketball program.

Whistler Ski Trip Friday saw the Alpine Sports Adventure program take to the slopes of Whistler Blackcomb. 3 busses of students departed LFMSS very early for what looks like an amazing day on the mountain.

Math Contests, Puzzle and Cube Clubs

Lunchtime at LFMSS have active places for active minds! There are various math clubs that have sprung up since the Christmas Break. Take your pick!

Cube Club (all grades)

Mondays at lunch in Mr Low's room W13. Learn how to solve the 2x2 or 3x3 Rubik's cube. Or improve your cube solving time to under a minute. You can even try the 4x4 or 5x5 cube, or even (gulp!) the 10x10 cube! Prizes for beginners and experts!

Puzzle and Games Club (Grades 6-8)

Thursdays at lunch in Ms Miller’s room E9. There’s plenty of puzzles and googols of games in Ms Miller’s room! Play games, solve puzzles, win prizes and have fun!

Math Contests

All LFMSS students can take math contests. Math contest questions are a bit more like puzzles than normal math course questions. At the younger ages, math contests are a fun experience, and awards for top marks are given. At the senior ages, top achievers in math contests can get scholarships and invitations to various post-secondary institutions. There are two math contest prep times:

Beginner and Intermediate (Grades 9-12)

Wednesdays at lunch in Mr Low’s room W13.

Advanced (Grades 11-12)

Fridays at lunch in Mr. Low’s room W13.

PAC NOTICE We need parent volunteers for the canteen. There were closures this month due to lack of helpers. The canteen provides hot food choices for the high school students, and is an integral PAC fundraiser. If you are able to help us out with any shifts for February (2 hour commitment), please contact Kim Dieterich at [email protected].
