CELEBRATE A SAFE AND ECO-FRIENDLY HOLI;
Holi marks the arrival of spring, a season of hope and myriad colours, good harvests and fertile land. The
festival also symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
Here are some ways to make this colourful festival a little less harsh on the environment.
1. Rang De Basanti :- Make your own colors, make colours at home, your friends and
neighbours will love you for this, as there are no harsh chemicals to deal with and no side
effects. They are easily washable from the skin and clothes, thus reducing water consumption
drastically.
Gram flour, turmeric, fuller’s earth, sandalwood powder, henna powder these can be used to
make myriad colours.
Flowers like marigold and gulmohar, and vegetable like beetroot can be easily used to create
fine colour.
Most of these ingredients are used in kitchen and beauty face packs. So it’s also bonus for the
skin and they smell great and are gentle on skin.
2. Tilak holi :- Move away from throwing colours and water on each other, opt for a simple tilak
holi, where you celebrate by applying tilak on each other.
3. Phoolon ki holi:- Phoolon ki holi you can celebrate holi with flowers too, appropriate
arrangements have to be made for used flowers, and they should not be dumped in water.
4. Celebrate a waterless holi:- No water in pichkaries, no hurling water balloons, paints and
bags on each other. In short, a dry holi is one with only colours and no water.
5. Say no to plastics:- Avoid throwing plastic bags and balloons filled with water over others. The
bags litter the environment, hurt others and waste precious water as well.
6. Burn eco-friendly waste for holika dahan:- Avoid wooden objects to avoid deforestation.
Instead, use waste boxes, coconut waste and cow dung for holika dahan, so that you commence
your holly celebration in an eco- friendly way.
7. Avoid harmful chemicals:-
Sl.no Colour Chemical Health effects 1. Yellow Lead oxide Renal failure
2. Blue Copper sulphate Eye allergy, puffiness and temporary blindness
3. Silver Aluminium bromide Carcinogen
4. Blue Prussian blue Dermatitis
5. Red Mercury sulphate Highly toxic & can cause skin cancer.
6. Green Malachite green Carcinogen
8. Keep your environment clean by celebrating eco- friendly holi.

ECO-FRIENDLY GANESH CHATHURTHI
Its time for the Lord of the Lords – Lord Ganesha to arrive. The most powerful and the most
merciful of all Gods needs some extra care and some extra attention.
It is only fair that we pamper him to the fullest and extend him a grand celebration. But
make sure not to disappoint him with things he really wouldn’t want you to.
Wondering what we are talking about? If perhaps we could hear him talk, he would really want
us to observe simplicity and ensure we do not harm or hurt the environment to impress him.
We’re sure he’ll love it if you be innovative and celebrate his arrival in an eco-friendly
way.
Eco Friendly Ganpati Decorations
Keep away from anything that is plastic unless you plan to use it year after year. If not, opt for
paper or clay flowers. Make the backdrop of your pandal using paper. It looks spectacular as you
have the choice to add colours to it.
Create or Buy Eco friendly Ganesh idols
All our river bodies are terribly polluted. We really wouldn’t want our favorite God to be
responsible to adding more to it, Right?
Let’s check options to have unbaked clay Ganesha this season. Or if you have time on your hands and are
inclined towards innovation, get hold of coconut shells and make an idol using the same.
