The Committee shall then be subdivided into Sub-Committees according to the areas of concern: road traffic injuries, thermal injuries (burns and scalds), drowning, physical injuries (fall, violence), and chemical injuries (poisoning, etc.).

MMDA Disaster Volunteers

An orientation program for the mobilization of 500 MMDA disaster volunteers last August 22, 2010 was held at the MMDA headquarters. The MMDA Public Safety Office assessed the volunteers' skills. Based on the assessment, the volunteers will be grouped, each group to undergo a relevant rescue training program by the first week of September.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (NDRRMP)

The NDRRMP outlines the activities aimed at strengthening the capacity of the national government

and the local government units (LGUs) together with partner stakeholders, to build the disaster resilience of communities and to institutionalize arrangements and measures for reducing disaster risks, including projected climate risks and enhancing disaster preparedness and response capabilities at all levels. It highlights, among others, the importance of mainstream DRRM and CCA in the development processes. Mainstreaming also puts to forth the need to develop common tools to analyze the various hazards and vulnerability factors which put our communities and people into harmful situations.

MMDA Emergency Response

There are 11 Emergency Stations located along strategic areas in Metro Manila which provides immediate response to roadside emergencies within the area. From January to April, these emergency stations were manned by 300 MMDA personnel, operating on a 24/7 duty schedule. In the same period, the Emergency Response team responded to 589 roadside emergencies and provided first aide assistance to 452 victims, 357 of whom were brought to the nearest hospitals for medical attention.

Oplan Metro Yakal

MMDA prepared Oplan Metro Yakal last March 2011 which contains contingency measures in case an earthquake would hit Metro Manila. Also included in the Oplan are preparatory activities such as reorientation and upgrading of disaster response skills and the reassessment of MMDA and volunteer rescue teams. These activities are done in close coordination with the LGUs.
