PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
THANK YOU!
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the Charity Day run by Tully Park Early Birds Golf Club. This
small band of keen players donate their takings from the day to local organisations. This year, The
Goulburn Prostate Cancer Group, St Joseph’s Primary and Goulburn West Public were recipients. We
were very grateful for the $885 donation, which will go to readers for our Kindergarten Early Literacy
Program.
Organiser Russell Schmidt and President Shane Cooper were on hand to present the donation, with a
lot of fun and humour shared around the clubhouse. What a great bunch of golfers!

2020
Thank you to the parents who have notified us of moves for their
children in 2020. Please notify us for either a potential move for
your child OR notify us of those you know wanting to enrol at West.
Classes and teachers will not be completely finalised until late
January as we are waiting on final numbers and staffing.
That said, if your student has any special need, please discuss this
with the class teacher, as some parents have already done.
It’s been fabulous to host our new Kinders, OC students and new
enrolments from across the school for orientation.
2019 YEARBOOK AND STATIONERY LIST
Teachers and staff are busy collating the yearbook for 2019. Copies will be delivered to school in Week
10. An order form will be in next week’s newsletter. Any spare copies will also be available at the Year 6
Farewell (17/12) and at the office (18/12). Cost is $20. They make a great gift for grandparents, family
and friends. Thanks to Top Shot Photography for their support.
2020 Stationery Lists will be in next week’s newsletter.

WONDERFUL WRITING
Congratulations to Savannah whose writing was published in the most recent School Magazine.
Savanah’s work was submitted more than four months ago as part of a national competition, from which
only seven entries were selected to be published.
The challenge was to write a story opening no longer than 120 words using at least eight prescribed
words (aluminium, glare, pampered, phantom, procession, shaggy, sizzles, snout, squirm, twitched) and
this opening sentence; If only they had never opened that door.
Savannah’s winning entry:

The Unbearable circus!
“If only they had never opened that door. Then you would be alive” whispered
Emily.
“The shaggy animal circus was known as the finest circus in town! The acts were
splendid in every way, the crowd would always sizzle with excitement when Mr
Squirm introduces the acts.
The first act was Snout the pig and Twitch the hog, Snout was a magician and
Twitch was his assistant.” Emily stumbled.
The last act was Phantom the bear a new act. The audience glared at the aluminium
cage, the audience filled with fear! Mr Squirm opened the door and…” Emily
stopped a tear rolled down her check.
“Then you died and so did the circus”. Emily walked away from her mother’s grave
in tears.

Goulburn West will be running a Pokemon Club for students.
The club is for students interested in playing the Pokemon card game. There will be mentors for those new to the game.
They meet during recess time on Wednesday in the library.
NO cards are to be brought in from home.
Due to some very generous donations from , and some of our Goulburn West families, the school has several decks of cards that the
club will play with.
If you have any questions about the club please contact Mrs Gooch.
