CongratulaƟons on enabling such a cared for and cared about school.” CongratulaƟons to Mrs Jull (Toby KP, Abigail 2B) and her team of willing helpers for organising and staging Casino Royal 7 in the Gordon West School Hall on last Saturday evening. In the usual Gordon West manner the hall was superbly decorated with a magnicent chandelier the feature. Having last visited a Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada/California in 1968 the authenƟcity of Saturday night brought back lots of memories. It was wonderful to observe the amount of eort everyone in aƩendance had taken to become involved in the spirit of the evening. Kindergarten 2019 Enrolment Enrolments for 2019 are now being accepted. Kindergarten 2019 Enrolment

Enrolments for 2019 are now being accepted. If you have a younger child due to start school in 2019 please complete an enrolment form (available from school office or website). All forms can then be lodged with the required identity documents at the school office so you can be added to our mailing lists for events relating to Kindy 2019 later this year.

  • On Thursday of last week Ms Sue Munday, granddaughter of the Munday family who were the first Europeans to live on the current Gordon West school site, visited the school. Ms Munday generously gave the school addi onal family photos to add to our historical records. George and Agnes Munday originally came to Australia in the service of Lord and Lady Jersey.(1891‐1893) The Mundays built their home from locally sawn hardwood weatherboard and lined with flat sheets of  n. The house was built directly on the ground with an asphalt floor. At this point in  me most of the current school site was natural bush through which there was a popular bush track to Gordon.

Courtmaster, a company from Manly Vale was the successful tender to complete renova ons/upgrade of our exis ng Mul Purpose courts. The work will be completed during the September/ October vaca on.  A big thank you to the commi ee of Mr O’Keefe, Mr Copley and Salvatore Castelnuovo for all of their efforts in organising this project. The Projects Commi ee is in the ini al planning stages for two addi onal projects;  1 A major landscaping Project adjacent to the Fixed Equipment with Ian Jackson the architect who originally designed the “Quiet Area” being commissioned to provide concept drawings for this upgrade. 2 Ar ficial Turf to be laid adjacent to the School Hall. Our experiment with installing irriga on to maintain natural grass has proved unsuccessful and this area remains under u lized.

CHILD PROTECTION LESSONS TERM 3. A mandatory requirement of all schools is to teach child protec on lessons every year. These lessons are designed to inform students of their personal rights and how to keep themselves safe in many situa ons. During Term 3 , all classes par cipate in child protec on lessons. There are three areas covered in the child protec on lessons are: Recognising Abuse, Power in Rela onships and Protec ve Strategies.

If you would like further informa on about the content of the lessons, please contact your child's teacher to make an appointment.

On a less than posi ve note the new Sports Jacket is not part of the winter uniform. However because some students feel the winter chill more than others we have allowed children to wear the Sports Jacket over their winter uniform jumper not in place of it.  We thank you for suppor ng the School Uniform Policy determined by the parents of Gordon West. Our Uniform Commi ee will meet this Thursday to discuss changes to the girls uniform as recently legislated by the Department of Educa on.

On Tuesday of this week I a ended a combined District Principal’s mee ng at Lane Cove Public School which was very informa ve on a number of levels. One challenge that most schools were facing was that Teacher Professional Learning has been iden fied as the most important factor in improving student outcomes and improving classroom pedagogy. Government Schools have been well resourced to implement very effec ve teacher professional learning programs and Gordon West Public School is very apprecia ve of this funding. However the challenge is how to implement this crucial Professional Learning and to ensure that classroom instruc on/consistency is not disrupted. Over the coming weeks Gordon West instruc onal leaders will outline their specific professional learning programs so that Gordon West parents are informed as to the content and organisa on of these programs  and how the children of Gordon West benefit from such programs.
