The user is advised that the hoses featured in this brochure are designed to transfer Anhydrous Ammonia only. The use of this hose for any other purpose without prior approval in writing by Goodall/Lewis-Goetz voids all warranties either expressed or implied. Refer to industry standards, such as RMA IP 11-2, for proper care and maintenance recommendations for Anhydrous Ammonia Hose. Failure to follow these recommendations could result in

serious personal injury and/or property damage. Product Illustrations may not exactly reflect the product’s design. Insure compatibility between the tube and the product or products transferred before using. Q:Sometimesaresidueformrings

AnhydrousAmmoniahose.Theylook

likewhitespots.Whatcausesthese

toappearandwhatarethey?

A: Goodall-produced Anhydrous Ammonia

hoses have a minimum of eight (8) rows of

evenly spaced pin pricks. The pin pricking

is a safety requirement. These pin pricks

allow the trace amounts of Nh3, that

permeate through the tube, to readily

escape harmlessly through the cover.

Hose that has been improperly pricked

or not pricked at all, will blister and

eventually blow out. This is caused by

the Nh3 becoming trapped between

the layers in the hose. The only draw-

back to pin pricking is the appearance

of the hose after use. As the Nh3 weeps

through the pricking it comes in contact

with the atmosphere and may form white

or brownish residue rings or cones. The

amount of dust and relative humidity in

the air can vary the color and consistency

of this residue. Contrary to the belief that

this residue indicates a problem, it is your

assurance that this built-in safety feature

is, in fact, working properly.

Q: MystainlesssteelbraidedAnhydrous

Ammoniahosehasballooned(mush-

roomed)outbehindthecoupling.

Whyisthishappening?

A: The occurrence described above is referred

to as “basketing”. It is a result of the

thermal expansion of trapped product in

the hose. By design, the over-pressure in

the hose causes the hose to expand in a

controlled fashion, predominantly behind

the coupling, instead of a catastrophic hose

blowout. Thermal expansion occurs when

product remains or leaks out of a shut-in

hose assembly and is then allowed to

“heat” in the sun. Very high pressures occur

as the black hoses heat in the sun. Hose

assemblies should always be emptied before

storage and downstream valves should be

checked for fastness regularly. Hydrostatic

pressure relief valves should also be checked

for correct operation.

Q: CanIusebrassfittingsoradapters

onAnhydrousAmmoniahose?

A: No, Anhydrous Ammonia aggressively

attacks brass and will corrode it almost

immediately.

FAQS

Warranty Period for Agricultural Applications*

ForNewlyManufacturedHose:

N1446: Super Long Life 10 Years

N2595: Rifleman 8 Years

N2000: Century 2000 6 Years

* Warranty applying to industrial or continuous applications is free of defects due to workman-ship and/or quality for one (1) year. Warranty only valid when coupled by authorized Lewis- Goetz locations. Customer misuse or abuse voids this warranty.

Goodall Anhydrous Ammonia hose is sold only in coupled assemblies.

NEW HOSE:

1. Make sure you have the correct hose.

All Anhydrous Ammonia hose will be

strip branded, stating that the hose is

for Anhydrous Ammonia, the working

pressure, the name of the manufac-

turer, and the month and year the

hose was made.

2. Make sure the couplings are properly

attached. After the hose is charged

with ammonia, check that the

couplings are secure and that they

have not moved.

3. Make sure that the new hose is free

from cuts, gouges, and imperfections.

Visually check and run your hand

down the entire length of hose,

checking also for soft spots.

4. Never secure the coupling in a vise

when attaching valves.

5. We strongly recommend the replacement

of all relief valves at the time of new

hose installation.

6. If any of the above conditions should be

present, remove the hose from service.

USED HOSE: (hosethatiscurrentlyinserviceorhasbeencarriedoverfromthepreviousyear)

1. Hose should be removed from the nurse

tanks before winter and stored in a cool,

dry place, preferably away from heat and

any motors that are operating. The best

position to store a hose is to hang the

hose in a vertical position from the

shoulder of the coupling. This relieves

stress on the hose. The hose will be out

of the way so as not to be damaged by

people walking on it or trucks driving

over it, or merchandise piled on top of it.

Storing the hose inside prevents the

damaging rays of the sun from ruining

the hose.

Care & Maintenance of Nh3 Hose

2. Hose should be checked in the spring as

a new hose for the proper identification

and to assure you that you are using an

Anhydrous Ammonia hose.

3. The Anhydrous Ammonia hose should be

checked each time the hose is used, or

at least daily, checking for: movement of

couplings, cuts, gouges, and cracks in the

cover, and soft spots, checked by running

your hand down the entire length of

the hose.

4. Should any of the above imperfections

appear, the hose should be removed

from service immediately.

5. Also refer to industry recommendations

on care and maintenance

as detailed in RMA

publication IP 11-2.

Visual and Manual Inspection Should be Done Daily

The user is advised that the hoses featured in this brochure are designed to transfer Anhydrous Ammonia only. The use of this hose for any other purpose without prior approval in writing by Goodall/Lewis-Goetz voids all warranties either expressed or implied. WARNING: Read before using this hose. Exposure to Anhydrous Ammonia and its fumes is extremely dangerous and may cause serious bodily injury or death unless proper protective equipment is used. In addition to following the special instructions that accompany this hose, user must follow all other industry or governmental recommendations and warnings to reduce the risk of serious bodily injury. 1. Drain the hose after each use. When not in use, the hose must be empty. Never leave Anhydrous Ammonia trapped in the hose, this could cause serious personal injury or property damage. 2. If there is any sign of possible damage to the hose or the couplings, REMOVE HOSE FROM SERVICE. 3. Hose must be removed from service prior to the printed year specified on the outside of the hose.
