OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE

Sovereignty of Christ, Last Sunday in Long Ordinary Time

November 24

“This Solemn Feast of our Lord Jesus Christ the King, brings us to the final Sunday of this Liturgical Year. We celebrate Jesus’ mission of preaching and teaching the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom is the world being transformed into what God originally intended at creation. The scope and reign of the everlasting Kingdom reaches its fulfillment at the end of time in Christ, the Universal King and Shepherd of all the nations. Today we honor the exercise of his sovereignty over us all through his victory over death and his eternal glory.” Father Richard

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY MASS

Eucharistic Prayer of Giving Thanks

November 28

“Today we Americans celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends around the table of our homes to share food, drink, prayers, stories and memories. Today we also gather as family at the Table of the Eucharist to give thanks to God for the many blessings we have received in our Catholic community. We voice ‘Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right and just.’ Mass is how our God blesses us in Christ as we receive the greatest of all blessings, his Body and Blood.” Father Richard

PASTOR’S VISION STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Actively engaged in the overarching goal of evangelization, we commit ourselves to making missionary disciples in the Franciscan tradition of seeking out the lost in need of reconciliation and conversion of heart to God, the Church, to oneself and others, to come to a personal relationship with Jesus in the Spirit of peace and joy of the Gospel. Father Richard

Vocations Corner

Third Order Regular: Franciscan Rule and Life Chapter II: Acceptance into this Life

4. Those who through the Lord’s inspiration come to us desiring to accept this

way of life are to be received kindly. At the appropriate time, they are to be presented to the ministers of the fraternity who hold responsibility to admit them. 5. The ministers shall ascertain that the aspirants truly adhere to the catholic faith and the Church’s sacramental life. If they are found to have a vocation they are to be initiated into the life of the fraternity. Let everything pertaining to this gospel way of life be explained to them, especially these words of the Lord: “If you wish to be perfect (Mt. 19:21) go and sell all your possessions (Lk. 18:22) and give to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” And “if anyone wishes to follow me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mt 16:24) 6. Led by the Lord, let them begin a life of penance conscious that all of us must be continuously and totally converted to the Lord. As a sign of their conversion and consecration to gospel life they are to clothe themselves plainly and to live in simplicity. 7. When their initial formation is completed they are to be received into obedience promising to observe this life and rule always. Let them put aside all attachment as well as every care and worry. Let them only be concerned to serve, love, adore, and honor the Lord God, as best they can, with single heartedness and purity of intention. 8. Within themselves let them always make a dwelling place and home for the Lord God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, so that with undivided hearts, they may increase in universal love by continually turning to God and to neighbor. (Jn 14:23)

FUNDING LAND ACQUISITION: OUR PRIORITY Since all of our current projects have already been funded, we only have one left: our land acquisition project. This is an exciting opportunity for our future as we continue to live out our mission of being disciples and making disciples. Let’s make funding this project a priority so that we don’t have to use up all of our operating monies in order to pay the interest on the $1.5 million loan. May I suggest that you continue giving for this project through recurring donations on Faith Direct, by check to the parish with the words Land Acquisition on the Memo Line, or by using the envelope that the parish will provide for this purpose. You may pick up this envelope at the information desk in the church or parish office. Texting a $ amount to 817-373-5557 is another way to give, or text “Enroll” if you are not already signed up with Faith Direct. With our combined efforts on a continuous basis, we can do it! Count your Blessings and be generous! Father Richard

THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Mary’s Special Grace | December 9, 2019

“Today we celebrate the Solemn Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Patroness of the United States. Through the centuries the Church has believed that Mary is “full of grace” by the singular grace of God and redeemed by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ. This dogma of the Blessed Virgin, preserved from all stain of original sin from the first moment she was conceived in the womb of St. Ann, is proclaimed in Sacred Tradition and defined in 1854. In the midst of Advent, we pause to give thanks to God for the gift of Mary to us.” Father Richard

A sponsor is an individual who represents the Catholic community and acts as a companion for an RCIA catechumen or candidate. They support the individual throughout

the RCIA process by walking with them on their journey to full communion with the Catholic faith. Sponsors are not expected to be experts on the teachings of the Catholic Church. In fact, most sponsors are everyday Catholics who, along with their catechumen or candidate, are seeking to learn more about the teachings of the Church. Sponsors should be at least 16 years of age and have celebrated the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation and should be in full communion with the Catholic Church. Sponsors develop a personal relationship with the person they sponsor—a relationship that extends beyond RCIA. Being an RCIA sponsor is a wonderfully rewarding and faith-enhancing experience. Couples are encouraged to join this ministry together too! If you have any interest in learning more about becoming a sponsor, please contact Deryl Byrket: [email protected]

Walking with Purpose Connect Coffees

Tuesday, December 3 7:00 - 8:30pm | Upper Rm Getting a Grip Through Rest: We live in a world in which people are valued for what they do and what they produce. How many of

us women charge through our week, going from one activity to another, ending each day exhausted? When the weekend comes, we simply switch gears for different activities. When we stop and choose to rest, however, we show that we know we are deeply loved by God -- not for what we achieve, but for who we are. Please join us for an inspiring talk and discussion about how to truly rest; how to prepare and contemplate, turning our focus toward God.

Wednesday, December 4 10:00 - 11:30am St. Maria Goretti Room Your Heart - You Are Captivating: In this world of noise and busyness, it is hard for women to find the

time to give ourselves a little attention. Please join us for a talk and discussion to remind us of how precious we are to God and that His love is unconditional. He is captivated by each one of us - not because of what we do or what others think of us but simply because we are His precious daughters.

All women are welcome to join us for a WWP Connect Coffee Talk! No experience necessary, just come as you are for some coffee and a chance to see what Walking with Purpose is all about!

Save the Date

Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Good Shepherd | 9:30am It is difficult for those of us who have enough to truly understand the situations that families living in poverty experience every day – the decisions they have to make, and the fears and frustrations they feel. That is why we are inviting you to walk a mile in the shoes of those facing poverty by participating in our Poverty Simulation. This program will allow participants to assume the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget. It lasts about 2 hours and the goal is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income people. Child care will be provided. Advance registration is required and sign-up will kick off in January.

Last year, GSCC’s Mission-Outreach Council launched a new scholarship program at the Institute that provided tuition assistance for 33 students. In return for the scholarship, the students had to maintain good grades, serve at the Institute in some capacity, and provide letters to Council Members throughout the semester. This program has been a complete success, and we are thrilled to offer our parishioners the opportunity to sponsor a student though a scholarship. November 23 - December 8 at Good Shepherd Help Good Shepherd ensure that each child, teenager, parent, and elderly person represented by an ornament on one of our Advent Angel Trees has a special Christmas. Simply take an ornament (or two or more...), purchase or donate the items requested on the ornaments, and return the ornament(s) with the gifts to the Bride’s Room in the church by Sunday, December 8.

Now in its 14th year, Good Shepherd’s Annual Advent Angel Tree program serves hundreds of people in need both near and far. Each year we set up Christmas trees in our Narthex during Advent. On the trees are hundreds of ornaments with printed requests for all kinds of gifts and items needed by people in our community. Parishioners take these ornaments off the trees, shop for the items on the ornaments, and then return the ornaments and gifts to the parish. The Outreach Services Ministry then distributes the items to those in need through our partner agencies.

Gifts this year will be donated to Cassata Catholic High School, Catholic Charities Fort Worth, GRACE, Good Shepherd’s Honduras Mission Program, Loreto House, WholeLife Authentic Care, SafeHaven of Tarrant County, the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur, and people served by the Good Shepherd Visitation Ministry.

Thank you so much for your continued generosity and outpouring of love during this holy season of Advent. Your kindness touches the hearts of hundreds of people in our community and Honduras.

Resources for Infertility Quote from article Infertility by Jeannie Hannemann, MA: “[W]hen a couple is unable to have children, it causes great pain emotionally, intellectually, physically, and

spiritually. The feelings of emptiness and loss are overwhelming. The search for reasons and remedies becomes a relentless passion. Doctors, procedures, the time, the cost, the hope, and the hurt are constant companions on the lonely road walked by couples searching for the destination of parenthood.”
