Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 25, 2015 Good News When my mother was alive and Thanksgiv- ing rolled around, my siblings and I would pack up our respective families and travel home for the traditional holiday dinner. There was something so right and satisfying about seeing one another, sharing what had happened since we saw each other last and eating the good food that was part of the feast. Of course as we got older, we helped out with the cooking, serving, and cleaning up, and with entertaining the frequent guests that showed up. On that day we were all family. The year my mother died, my brother, sisters, and I were not sure what to do. Her house had been sold, and we were scat- tered to different parts of the country. Thanksgiving was a very different feast that year, as it often is when matriarchs and pa- triarch pass. We talked about what we missed and wanted, and now we celebrate Thanksgiving at my house with all who can make it. The tradition has become ours, and we look forward to it every year. Imagine being unable to celebrate any of your traditions for forty years. That’s what the Jews faced during their long exile. They were unable to gather as a family and wor- ship God in their own way. Jeremiah’s vision of their joyful return holds out the hope that God will once again gather them up and bring them home. There, God will restore them to wholeness just as Jesus restored Bartimaeus, who courageously called out to him and asked for what he most desired. Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 25, 2015

Good News When my mother was alive and Thanksgiv-ing rolled around, my siblings and I would pack up our respective families and travel home for the traditional holiday dinner.

Her house had been sold, and we were scat-tered to different parts of the country. Thanksgiving was a very different feast that year, as it often is when matriarchs and pa-triarch pass. We talked about what we missed and wanted, and now we celebrate Thanksgiving at my house with all who can make it. The tradition has become ours, and we look forward to it every year.

Imagine being unable to celebrate any of your traditions for forty years. That’s what the Jews faced during their long exile. They were unable to gather as a family and wor-ship God in their own way. Jeremiah’s vision of their joyful return holds out the hope that God will once again gather them up and bring them home. There, God will restore them to wholeness just as Jesus restored Bartimaeus, who courageously called out to him and asked for what he most desired.

Golf Tournament a Big Hit!

Along with the Dinner, Car Raffle, and Auctions.

Under the capable leadership of Ron Lorilla, Robert Malonzo and Committee Members Debbie Adams, Jim Bariteau, Flo Southland, Tom and Elsa McLaughlin, Tony Branco, Bob and Ronnie Byron this year’s golf tournament was very well organized and was a very enjoyable day out for over 100 golfers. We thank the entire committee, the golfers and the following vol-unteers who helped in different ways: Jim Castle, Maria Civello, Louis DeVincenzi, Joyce Duffy, Terry Griffin, Carol Griffin, Cookie Hales, Leona Karava, Mary Kolb, Mary Ann Laundri, Dot Leysna, Rob Malonso, Tom McLaughlin, Elsa McLaughlin, Barbara Miller, Bev Murphy, Madeline Natzger, Richard Naftzger; Maureen O’Neill, Linda Pederson, Bill Rodman, Marilyn Rodman, Linda Schlageter, and Flo Southland.

We also thank the people from the Villages who gave us their golf carts for the tournament.

Armand Guerrero was the official photographer for the tournament and we thank him.

Over 300 participants enjoyed the very festive and enjoyable Dinner. We especially thank Rosalie Cartwright for the colorful décor and layout of the tables which added to the festive atmosphere. The live piano music was an added feature this year.

The Car Raffle, this year, had a new and different format with fewer tickets and more prizes. The Raffle Committee was led by Karen Meshcke and included Kimberley Pham, Theresa Nguyen and Minh Tam Nguyen. The following sales people did a great job in moving the 2000 tickets: Ryan Bao, Bob Byron, Ronnie Byron, Solly Cecillio, Rebecca Cruz, Mina Echols, Helen Guerrero, Rusty Kilkenny, Mary Kolb, Marie Lamantia, Becky Mora, Jacqueline Nguyen, Imelda Orozco, Aster Pasion, Sam Pasion, Zeny Patalot, Suzanne Pham, Janet Phan, Stella Rodriguez, Ederlyn Suriaga, Phu Vu, and Lisette Zarzalejo.

We are grateful to all of them for their hard work.

We congratulate the winners of the Grand Prize and the 12 other prizes. Note that over $30,000 goes to people of the parish, the winners. Grand Prize Beth Cayabyab (#1939), 2nd Prize $2,000 Rose Gravelle (#1931), 3rd Prize $1,000 Joseph Velez (#0925), 4th Prize $500 My Bui (#1454). Bundle Drawing Winners: Jesse Mora (iPad mini 3 B155), John Cortese $1000 B490, Msgr. Fran $500 B175

Credit for the success of the Auctions goes to the following talented committee: Tess Chin, Sandra Lowe, Geraldine Leggio, Linda Paulson and Rosalie Cartwright.

The following volunteers helped with the auctions: Felicia Aquino, Rosalie Cartwright, Donna Corsell, Hunter Elkins, Yvonne French, Hanna Lowe, David Mendez, Tate Tran, and Cynthia Welch.

They secured the items for the Live Auction and Silent Auction, organized the items for the silent auction, did the book-let for the live auction, provided the paddles for the bidding, and took the payment for the items in a very organized and quick way. We are very grateful to them for their hard work and generous donation of time and talent.

We thank Hunter Elkins for being our auctioneer during the dinner.

We thank the sponsors, donors and local businesses who supported us.

Last but not least we thank our staff, especially our Business Manager, Victor Espinoza, and Heather Khan, our ac-countant, Mary McAllister who helped with credit card payments, and Rosie Olivas our Administrative Assistant who supported the above workers and volunteers.

You will see how many people contributed to the success of these activities. In doing so, we enjoyed each others com-pany, made new friends, got satisfaction in the success of our work, and felt the joy of the gospel that Pope Francis talks about and lives.
