Just For Today August 13

The Selfless Service Prayer

"Higher Power, help me serve

other people, not demand that

they serve me."

SERVICE

NA literature suggests that service work is an

essential part of a program of recovery. Service

is "doing the right thing for the right reason,"

and is the best example of "good will", which is

the basis for the freedom only from active ad-

diction by the NA program. Service work is

usually chairing a meeting but may be as sim-

ple as cleaning up after the meeting, putting

away chairs, or answering a phone. Addition-

ally, there are basic, formalized service posi-

tions at the group level to help the group per-

form its function: examples include treasurer,

secretary and Group Service Representative

(GSR) who represents the group in the larger

service structure.

(of a person, action, or motive) lacking

consideration for others; concerned

chiefly with one's own personal profit or

pleasure.

Selfish:

Concerned more with the needs and

wishes of others than with one’s own;

unselfish:

Selfless

Things that make me say

hmmmm...

I cannot find anything about NA

being a “selfish” program in the Basic

Text...but I did find references to self-

less service and selfless acts…
