• 2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
• 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

• 14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.
• 15 You, however, will go to your fathers in peace and be buried at a good old age.
• 16 In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure."

Joseph in Egypt
Joseph sold into slavery by brothersImprisoned falsely / Interprets Pharaoh's dream Elevated to 2nd in command of Egypt– Gen 41:38-41
• 38 So Pharaoh asked them, "Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?"
• 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you.
• 40 You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you."
• 41 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt."

Israelites Are Enslaved
A later Pharaoh doesn’t know Joseph (& family)Start being threatened by growth and successEnslave them as a result– Exod 1:6-8
• 6 Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,
• 7 but the Israelites were fruitful and multiplied greatly and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them.
• 8 Then a new king, who did not know about Joseph, came to power in Egypt.
430 years pass…
God Calls Moses to Save Israelites Just the right period of time passesGod planned the timing when the nation was ready– Exod 3:4-8
• 4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am."
• 5 "Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."
• 6 Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
• 7 The LORD said, "I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.
• 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey--
The Israelites Leave Egypt It took 10 plagues to convince Pharaoh– Exod 12:31
• 31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested.
– Exod 12:41• 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the
LORD's divisions left Egypt.
God commands the Passover to ‘remember’ being savedGod’s people leave with MONEY! (They take it from Egyptians)– Exod 12:35-36
• 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.
• 36 The LORD had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.
God’s New Nation
They cross the Red Sea to complete the deliverance from the EgyptiansThey are now free, have money, and need to develop from slaves to a nationAbout 40 years in the desert will do that!
