MOHYAL EDUCATIONAL & RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (MERIT) The Mohyal Educational & Research Institute of Technology (MERIT) was established in October '99 by the GMS, with emphasis on Information Technology (IT). In the beginning, it was functioning from the out house at the rear of the present Mohyal Foundation building, till the laffer was ready in early 2003. Since then, the institute has been scaling newer and newer heights. MERIT has not only contributed to Youth Empowerment, but has also become a catalytic factor for other age groups, to be well-versed in IT. With computers ofthe latest configurations, 2 World-class fully air-conditioned computer labs (dedicated solely to conduct tests), and 2 other (also fully air- conditioned) computer labs, full power back-up, sufficient internet provisions, well-qualified faculty etc, MERIT is one of the few institutions, which have such facilities of international standards. Due to these, it has become a popular online testing center forvarious international tests like TOEFL & GRE (which have been our major source of income) and othertests such as PEARSON VUE, NMAT etc. Details regarding the TOEFL and GRE tests are available in the website http://www.ets.org and test dates are available in the MERIT website www.meritlogics.com.

Contribution to Youth Right from its inception, MERIT was aware that the youth are the real building blocks ofsociety. Thus, its core functions were planned keeping in mind the following youth-oriented aspects.

1) Education 2) Counselling 3) Employment

Keeping in view the requirements of different age groups, with different objectives and background, diverse courses have been launched in MERIT. It is a Distance Study Centre of IGNOU and Jamia Milia Islamia universities forvarious undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It also became an authorized vocational training center (for COPA trade) of the NCVT, Government of India, in 2008, and its affiliation has recently been extended for another 5 years, after inspection of our facilities by the Quality Council of India.

The Second challenge that the youth of today face is the uncertainty in choosing the right path for their career. Keeping this in mind, MERIT took active part in building youth forums and contributed immensely in managing youth camps, where teenagers received guidance and counseling from eminent academicians, scholars and industrialists. With effect from 2008, we have also been conducting internship training to B.Tech/ MCA scholars of various universities , and facilitating research by them in IT-related projects. Many ofsuch trainees are well- placed now.

Most ofthe educated youth ofthis era feel helpless, when they face the problem ofunemployment. This thus became the third frontto be conquered by MERIT. i.e., to infuse employable skills and generate employment opportunities forthe educated youth. MERIT has played a vital role in this area by introducing government- approved job-oriented courses. Various job- oriented and vocational training programs conducted by MERIT have benefiffed a large number of young professionals; the same is depicted bythe number ofstudents geffingjobs. A high percentage of COPA and NI ELIT students of MERIT have been placed in good organizations. Afew ofthe students have also been given the opportunity to work at MERIT itself and the GMS.

Some of the courses currently run in MERIT are COPA (Computer Operator and Programming Assistant) under the National Council For Vocational Training (NCVT); CCIT (Certificate in Computer Information Technology), CCHNT

(Certificate in Computer Hardware & Network Technology), B.Com & BIBF (Bachelor oflnternational Business & Finance) ofthe Jamia Millia Islamia; and BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) & MCA (Master of Computer Applications) of IGNOU.

Note: Special incentive is provided to Mohyal Students, by the GMS.

MERIT invites the Mohyal youth to come forward and join the various training courses offered by it. We also invite suggestions! comments from the Mohyal fraternity, including its youth, to bring MERIT and its facilities, closer to the aspirations ofthe youth, in general, and Mohyal youth, in particular.

Unless You've Been a Soldier By Clive Sanders

Unless you've a soldier, Youjust won't understand The things that we have seen and done. In the service of our land. We have trained to live in combat, To cope with awful sights, That shouldn't be seen by anyone And keep you awake at nights.

We don't discuss the wounds we have, Tothe bodyorthe mind. Wejustputour hurts behind us, And turn our memories to blind. We are proud we served our country, And remember those we lost. For the freedom that you have today, They paid the awful cost.

After the prayer, the secretary welcomed members and guests and further brought out about the wonderful setting for the meeting in the lawn of Dutts house in win- ter sunshine. The Minutes of the Jan 2015 meetings which had been published in MohyalMitter were passed by the house. The Treasurer brought out the position of accounts which too were passed.

Happy News: 1. Gp. Capt. DC Mehta informed that it is indeed a unique coincidence that our Sabhas meeting is being held on 105th BirthAnniversary ofhis late father Nardev Chander Mehta (Datta) sb late Mehta Ram chander Shastri (Daifa) of Munde Mari (now in Pakistan). The evil hands of death snatched away his respected father on 24th July, 1963. Ms Kamlesh Mehta do- nated Rs. 500/- to SZMS to com- memorate the birth anniversary of her respected late Father-in-law.

2. Col. RN. Bakshi donated Rs. 500/- on his 75th birthday which also has, by the happy coinci- dence, fallen today the 8th Feb. 2015. The members congratu- lated Col Bakshi and wished good luck to the family.

Other Proceedings: Shri MM Mehta Secy. whilst informing the house that though, in the last meeting it was decided that elec- tions of SZMS need not be held & the same team may carry on regardless, he desired that a re- thinking be made especially since the present team has been in of- fice for over a decade & thus, a

change is called for & would be in order. Gp. Capt. Mehta Presi- dent, supplemented to this desire expressed by Gen. Secy. & sub- miffed that we may ponder over of handing over the reins of SZ to the Ladies by electing a new team in consonance with the change taking place at the UT of Delhi. More importantly he solicited to the indulgence of the august members present to his proposal of SZMS creating yet another his- tory in the annals of Mohyal Fra- ternity by ushering in Women Empowerment & thus, adding another first to its list, the earlier firsts being Conduct of Memorial Lectures & honouring Octogenar- ian members by a local Sabha. lt

was highlighted that such an ini- tiative would be in pursuance of the thinking at the National level, he also, substantiated his pro- posai by submitting that Woman is a born manager, as she man- ages the household exceptionally well & more over it is well estab- lished that Women have amply proved their managerial skills in all facets of life globally. Due em- phasis was laid on the fact that sz was singularly fortunate to have a bunch of exceptionally dynamic & talented lady members in its fold. Hence, it would only be apt, if this untapped resource is gainfully utilized for betterment of the Mohyal fraternity in particular & the society at large. After due deliberations &taking into consid- eration all pros & cons of the 'Out of the box thinking proposal', it was unanimously decided to ac- cept the same as it would un- doubtedly add another 'Feather in the cap of SZMS'. Accordingly the house unanimously elected an all ladies executive committee as fol I ows:

Smt. Ritu Mohan-President Smt. TanuDutt-Vice President Smt. Anita Daifa-Gen. Secy. Smt. Monika Vaid-Treasurer Smt. Kusum Bakshi -PRO & Rep at GMS.

PS: Wth Prof. JS Bali as Presi- dent Emeritus & Shri. MM Mehta, Shri. Ajay Datta,Gp.Capt. DC Mehta and Shri Kapil Datta as the four Patrons. A word of cau- tion may be in order & of rel- evance i.e. Kindly take note & be informed that this is Not ® Not a

The Secretary also informed that members to opt for permanent membership by paying Rs.5001-.

Smt. Parkash Mohan Wth great sorrow I inform that my wife Smt. Parkash Mohan, daughter of Dr. Harjas Rai Datta of Kanjrur Dattan, aged 85 years, withdrew from our companion- ship of66 years on 10 Feb 2015. By my side and amidst loving care of our son Brig Dipak Kumar Mohan and his wife Neerja Mohan, she exited from this world with grace and peace, reminiscent of her style of life. Wth age our faculties begin to weaken and her hearing had been sufficiently impaired. But her habit of reading was a boon.

three voluminous books ordered by our son this month she had read two but rejected the third, half way, because all the char- acter were crooks. She had stopped viewing "family dramas" on television for she said these were all woven around discord, jealousy and hatred. She pre- ferred narratives in print and screen that had at least a "just" if not happy ending. The biggest tribute to her, is the impression she has left on our progeny. Our son Dipak Kumar, our daughter Mridula Mehta, our grandchil- dren, Lt. Col. Samir, Dr. Anurag, Namita, Sonal and Archana are all vocally appreciated by the re- spective families in which they are married. She is "Mummyji" to all our grandchildren and great grandchildren. They learn to dif- ferentiate between their 'Mummy' and their "Mummyji" before they learn to talk ! She could not stand conflict and by the grace of God we were joined by spouses who readily jelled into our bonds of mutual affection.

Cremation was held on the 11th February and Uthala on the 13th. Both functions were attended by large number of relatives, friends and leading members of Mohyal biradri of Panchkula and Chandigarh. Other last rites are being performed according to her wishes for which she has left specific instructions. We convey our gratefulness to all who joined us or have sent messages of condolence. During the last Iwo decades, I have been devoting all energy towards research and propagation of an authentic ver- sion of Mohyal History. Parkash was my partner in everything. We have decided to give Rupees Twenty Five Thousand to GMS towards Smt. Parkash Mohan historical research trust for propagation of Mohyal History among the community. Another

last time when she (our Mataji) would have liked him to be be- sides her, he (fondly called Pitaji by children) as always in his life, was discharging his family re- sponsibilities at Jamul, Chhatisgarh when she suddenly left for her heavenly abode on 24 Feb. 1988 at Chandigarh. lt was irony of fate that our father could not even attend the last rites of his lifelong partner. After this sud- den demise, though the children tried their best to cheer him up but he silently led a lone life and bid adieu to the world on 8 Nov. 2004 at Jamul, Chhatisgarh, af- ter attending the marriage recep- tion of his grand daughter. We their sons Satish, Raj, Narinder and daughter Santosh recollect the memories and can proudly say that the good and bad times never shook their confidence, to make our lives comfortable. We were all married during their life time and all the comforts. lt is truly said "if you honor your Fa- ther & Mother, you will live a long life full of blessings". We fondly remember that whatever meager resources they have had, they always dreamt of good education to us, our marriages, a house of own for each of us. These dreams were fulfilled in their life- time and they, we feel were con- tended. The dream of their grandchildren to be well edu- cated is also fulfilled.

We bow our heads to the memory of our Pitaji Roshan LaI Chhibbar and mother Sumitra for all that they gave us, and the values they taught us.
