Create a GMetrix Account

Students must first create an account at www.gmetrix.net.

Username: Encourage your student to select a username that is easy to remember, and consistent with a naming convention all your students can use. For example, first name, last name, and student birth month and day (JohnDoe1231).

Password: Encourage your student to select a password that is easy to remember, and consistent with a format all your students can use. For example, use the student’s long digit birthday (01012018). Please remember that passwords are case sensitive.

It is considered a best practice to have students use the same username and password created for the Certiport Test Candidate account.

Access Code Redemption

If students are logging in for the first time, or if you’ve created a new Access Code, have them click on the menu tile called “Access Codes”. They will be prompted to enter the Access Code you created.

Returning users will click on the menu tile called “New Test” to begin a new practice test or project or click on the menu tile called “Resume Test” to continue with a saved practice test. If you’ve shared more than one Access Code, direct your students to the Access Code they should use for new tests or to resume saved tests.

Work with your IT Staff to determine if projects and saved tests should be saved to the hard drive or cloud storage solution. This should be determined before the SMS test engine is installed.

Choose an Application and Mode

Next, students choose the application test they would like to take (unless you’ve restricted applications when you created the Access Code).

Students will be prompted to practice in “Training” mode or “Testing” mode. Training mode enables a help feature when students need step-by-step support on a skill and disables the countdown timer. Testing mode simulates a certification test environment by disabling any help features and the test is timed.

Select a Practice Test (2013 & 2016)

GMetrix features several premade practice tests aligning to the Objective Domains of the certification exams, and the MSIA curriculum. “Training” mode and “Testing” mode use the same pool of questions/skill assessments.

Use the “Core Skill Review” tests to support the mastery of specific skills and “Core Practice” exams for projects that simulate the certification exam.

“Project Review” (2016 Office Suite only) consist of one single application projects that give students a real-world example of using Microsoft Office.

It is considered a best practice to have students demonstrate mastery (score 850 or higher) with both “Core Skill Review” and “Core Practice

Exams” (practice exams) prior to taking the certification exam.

Training Mode & Testing Mode

Training Mode - GMetrix SMS provides the student with instant feedback after each question is completed to let the student know if he/she correctly completed each task. If the student didn’t correctly compete the task, he/she can click the “Try again with help” button. The student will be guided how to complete the task correctly.

The student can also click the “Reset” button to try again without help or click the “Next Question” button to move on to the next task.

Testing Mode - GMetrix SMS provides the student with a simulated certification exam experience with a countdown timer. The help feature is disabled. At the completion of the practice test, the student will have a score report.
