EditorialDear friends of profilingvalues,

We are pleased about the growing popularity among our partners and clients. At the same time we see the terrible contrast to the horrible con-flicts between states and peoples. In

the feature article I contribute the views of Robert S. Hartman who was nominated for the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize. We are continually confronted with conflicts in our daily lives which we can better understand and help solve with our new Team Overview. Portrayed in this issue are Marit Höppner and Detlef Duwe who make a great team and have exten-sively implemented profilingvalues. I wish you continued success, beau-tiful moments in spring, and enjoy-ment in reading this newsletter.

The world is not perfect, but good.

War is not Inevitable – Robert S. Harman and the Insurance Principle At the end of the 1990s Samuel P. Huntington successfully published the “Clash of Civi-lizations”. According to him, conflicts inevitably erupt on the “fault lines” of cultural re-gions. The Hartman Value Profile, developed by Robert S. Hartman, proves the opposite: Similarities between value systems surpass the differences when regarded on an interna-tional level.

What is universal and unifies humanity outweighs every-thing and is virtually overwhelming. Hence, war is not a logical consequence but a defect in society which humans can oppose. Taking the developments in Eastern Ukraine, the Middle East in reference to the horrors of ISIS, or the terrible situation going on in Syria for numerous years, one can lose hope on occasion. However, just as one should not despair when pursuing personal aims in life, negative thinking is just as out of place here. During the Cold War Hartman had addressed this topic and made himself un-popular with the government by provocatively asking: Do we have a military establishment because we have an en-emy or do we have an enemy because we have a military? In his opinion war is madness. Nothing exceeds the value of a human life. Where is the justification that a murderer

can get the electric chain in times of peace and a medal during a war? It is necessary to take a critical stand. To all pessimists we say: The world is not perfect, that is perhaps the Creator. But it is good.

A proof of this is the insurance principle. If more airplanes would crash than land safely, there would be no insurance. If car trips would cause more damages than end well, we wouldn’t have insurance. We do not pay premiums to collect money from an accident. No, we pay them so that the neighbor receives help in an emergency when things go wrong in this non-perfect world. Conversely, the neigh-bor also pays for us, if need be. People can and want to be there for one another. If nations would behave like insur-ance, would all be good? More about this in the next issue.

Profilingvalues for Partners

Essential Team Factors What makes a team successful and what really matters for the cooperation? Dr. Ulrich Vogel and Nicklas Kinder, responsible for product development at profilingvalues GmbH, have been focusing on these questions. It has motivated them to develop a much-needed, valuable tool.

Based on the latest research findings in industrial and organizational psychology, the new Team Overview by profilingvalues allows an even deeper look at the capabil-ities of a team and elaborates on the essential factors for their cooperation, harmony, and performance potential. The aggregated team values, which are divided according to Robert S. Hartman’s value dimensions, were expand-ed with the following key factors which are essential for teams: Social Sensitivity, Creative Problem Solving, Com-mitment, Stress Resilience, Team Discipline, Team Role Awareness, and Dominant Behavior. These crucial team factors are derived from coherencies and the accumulat-ed scales of the competencies. It is important for the ex-pert to view the results not separately, but interpret these as a balanced system and take into account the specific task and constellation of the team.

Dominant Behavior, for instance, can negatively influence the creative problem solving and general cooperation of the team, but can also be a necessary anchor point for teams with little initiative.

Team values are not only averaged, the distribution of the individual persons is also mapped. By using key codes it is possible to match the individual results with the team members or present them in a transparent manner, when desired. The systematic presentation of the competencies and team factors support constructive team development through open discussions, better insight, and greater role awareness. This opens better insight in the prevailing group dynamics in the team. As a result, those who are affected become involved.

“People are priority!” The translated appeal of the essence of Hartman’s work I>E>S is the heart and soul of Marit Höppner and Detlef Duwe’s consulting work and training. Ambitious about spreading the axiological philosophy as an orientation and regulatory concept for healthy and strong management, they offer a chain of services in di-agnostics, design, and development in their professional,

well-founded portfolio for individual client needs. Profil-ingvalues is implemented as a diagnostic tool in various effective trainings, coaching programs, and interventions. The method is convincing in executive coaching as well as intervention trainings by means of introvision. Their expe-rience and success have made the coaches at Peopleware Consulting outstanding partners of profilingvalues.
