Company Overview

Business Challenge

Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company S.A. (CCHBC) is one

of the world’s largest bottlers for The Coca-Cola Company.

The CCHBC serves a population of approximately 600

million customers with operations in 28 countries on three

continents, ranging from the Republic of Ireland to the

easternmost parts of Russia, and from Estonia to Nigeria.

Mergers can be difficult to implement, especially when

they generate fragmented operations spanning wider

geographies than they were designed to support. Unifying

IT infrastructures and implementing company-wide ERP

systems are essential to successfully manage such disparate

operations as a single entity. These were the challenges

CCHBC faced when a merger created the company.

After the merger, CCHBC’s production facilities spread

geographically almost overnight.

Solution

CCHBC chose Redwood to manage its SAP

background processing and the Redwood

Professional Services team for assistance with

implementation.

A significant driver in CCHBC’s selection of

Redwood was the ability to map job chains

across SAP BW and SAP ERP and manage

interdependencies between automated

processes across the full SAP environment.

Wooninck adds, “We had a short timeframe

with which to get the automation of our SAP

background processing in place. By turning

to Redwood’s Professional Services team, we

saved weeks of ABAP development. The team

had the requisite knowledge and expertise

and could begin making batch inventories

immediately, saving us valuable time it would

have taken us to familiarize ourselves with the

product.”

After the implementation, Redwood automation

began executing processes automatically on

detected source files, data, events, or messages.

It also provided orchestration across processes

through context-aware logic such as flags and

locks. Redwood’s ability to define once and re-

use automation processes eliminated needless

duplication, ensured consistency, and reduced

stress.

Their disparate operations also meant

decentralized reporting and control.

The company wanted to integrate and

consolidate internal IT systems across

numerous countries to achieve synergies.

CCHBC implemented SAP ERP, SAP Business

Warehouse (BW) and SAP SCM enterprise-

wide to consolidate business management.

To facilitate this process, the organization

developed an internal project team to design

the SAP landscape and migrate data to SAP.

It also took responsibility for implementing

and supporting SAP products throughout the

company.

“Previously our SAP installation

spanned seven countries and served

2,100 end users. After we doubled our

processing capabilities by extending

SAP technology to an additional five

countries and 3,300 end-users, we

needed a process automation and

batch scheduling solution that could

automate the existing workload and

scale much larger.”

Raymond Wooninck,

SAP Technology Manager at CCHBC

Redwood’s ability to define once and re-use automation processes eliminated needless duplication.

CCHBC reduced the daily scheduled batch workload from 300 to 180, partly because

Redwood could run processing loads in parallel, an improvement over the native SAP

scheduling system that CCHBC had been using, which could only run processes sequentially.

Furthermore, Redwood’s mapping of job chains highlighted redundant processes that could

be removed, streamlining hardware usage, and further optimizing SAP productivity.

Future Plans

Results

By automating processes with dependencies between SAP ERP, SAP BW and SAP SCM and providing

job interception functionality, Redwood enabled CCHBC to manage production more efficiently.

Having these three systems running up-to-date and synchronized is a significant business enabler

for CCHBC. CCHBC can also now improve systems performance during Business Intelligence data

reload windows by intercepting end-user jobs and delaying or re-prioritizing them until the upload

is complete.

Governance and compliance capabilities also provide greater control over user access. CCHBC

can now logically separate departments, applications, or business units through partitions.

Once the initial project was complete, the project

team added about 9,000 SAP users from 26 central

and eastern European countries into the unified SAP

environment. Redwood has become increasingly

mission critical as CCHBC continues to centralize

the management of its growing operations.

“Raymond Wooninck, SAP Technology Manager at CCHBC

With so many SAP end-users across so many locations, including the data center

and systems admin groups, Redwood provides the transparency we need to align

all three applications, no matter where or when production management issues

may arise. Developers can easily manage the lifecycles of our business process

automations by using a single platform. Reducing our ABAP programming workload

and gaining error alert functionality also saved us time, because we no longer have

to check batch log reports.”
