Government’s IES Policy: The poorly thought out Investing in Educational Success (IES) policy for educational spending has disheartened principals, teachers, Board of Trustees and parents. The Government Policy of spending $359 million on a performance based system rather than providing more teacher aides, smaller class numbers and better resources for special needs students does not support Schools’ current needs. Principals and teachers would rather see the money spent on children and have recently voted through NZEI to communicate this to the Government. outcomes.

The NED Show: Yoyos are in full swing after the successful NED show last week. There are many tricks and skills for students to learn, keep practising. The NED message is

N, Never give up, E, Encourage others, D, Do your best. This message relates well to our Glenbervie School RRIPS Values.

School Production – 2nd & 3rd September: ‘A Night at the Library’. Every child in the school will be performing! Let family and friends know. Tickets will be on sale from Tuesday 26th August at the school office, $10 per adult and $5 per child.

Seeking Expressions of Interest for Before School Care:

Hopscotch for kids is an established after school care

and holiday programme based in the school hall and at

Kensington park. We have had some interest from

parents to extend our services to before school. Drop

off for parents will be at our Kensington location and

the service will include breakfast and transport for your

child to school. At this stage, we are seeking further

interest to ensure we have enough children to start the

programme from Term 4. If you are interested, please

pass on your details to receive further information. Call

or text Abbey on 021 237 2598 or email

[email protected].

Measles:  Measles is spreading around the North

Island. Measles is VERY infectious - and if you are

not immune, there is a high chance you will get

sick. Measles can be a very serious illness, with

one in three sufferers experiencing

complications such as ear infections, pneumonia,

bronchitis or diarrhoea.

The best protection is to have a measles

vaccination.  If you have not had confirmed

measles illness in the past, or you have not

received TWO doses of MMR or measles

containing vaccine, you cannot be sure to be

protected. Immunisation protects not only the

individual, but also stops the spread of this

disease within our communities.

Maori Language Week/Te Wiki o te reo

Maori: This week’s word/kupu is

nau mai which means welcome.

Spell-a-thon: Money can be

handed to the class teacher in

a named, sealed envelope.

Thanks for your support.

lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
