Nau Mai, Haere Mai, Welcome to this
week’s newsletter.
Opening of Room 11 and 12: Opening of Room 11 and 12: Opening of Room 11 and 12: Opening of Room 11 and 12: Last Wednesday we officially opened the new building on the top court. We were fortunate to have local Kaumatua and Kuia from Pehiaweri Marae to assist in the opening and blessing of the new building. Uncle Haki Parata mentioned that he had attended Glenbervie School in the original building that was on the same site a few years previously. The new building has two classrooms designated Rooms’ 11 and 12. Room 11 replaces the old room 11 that was temporarily located in the Centre of Excellence. Room 12 now houses the old Room 5 students and staff. Thank you to Guyco who took pride and care in their work. Thanks also to Noel Timms for his assistance with the project. We are all very happy to have modern classrooms for our staff and students to utilise. We know the rooms will provide good service for many years to come.
Government’s IES Policy: The poorly thought out Investing in Educational Success (IES) policy for educational spending has disheartened principals, teachers, Board of Trustees and parents. The Government Policy of spending $359 million on a performance based system rather than providing more teacher aides, smaller class numbers and better resources for special needs students does not support Schools’ current needs. Principals and teachers would rather see the money spent on children and have recently voted through NZEI to communicate this to the Government. Concerned IES Parents Group: We are fortunate that concerned parents have considered the IES policy and have sent out a flyer for you as parents to send a message to the Minister for Education Hekia Parata. Your optional vote of no-confidence will send a message that the money can be best spent on essential educational needs. Thanks to our Concerned IES Parents Group for supporting staff and schools in NZ.
Glenbervie School Values:Glenbervie School Values:Glenbervie School Values:Glenbervie School Values: RRIPS Respect,
Resilience, Integrity, Perseverance and Self-Discipline.

the face of adversity.

methods, measures, principles, expectations, and
outcomes.
The NED Show: Yoyos are in full swing after the successful NED show last week. There are many tricks and skills for students to learn, keep practising. The NED message is
N, Never give up, E, Encourage others, D, Do your best. This message relates well to our Glenbervie School RRIPS Values.
School Production – 2nd & 3rd September: ‘A Night at the Library’. Every child in the school will be performing! Let family and friends know. Tickets will be on sale from Tuesday 26th August at the school office, $10 per adult and $5 per child.
Agricultural Day: – Saturday 27th Sept. Animal Demonstration: Each year leading up to Ag Day we have an animal demonstration where children have the opportunity to watch, listen and learn
‘ins and outs’ regarding rearing and handling an animal. The judges who will be adjudicating on the day have offered to speak to the children early next month. To make this presentation more real for the children, the judges would like to have a lamb and a calf on site. If you are able to make your child’s pet available (day to be finalised) please contact Maryanne Dykzeul or the school office. Cups: Well done to the families who have returned their cup/s to the office. However, there are still a few cups outstanding. Please check with your child that they have returned their cup/s to the office.

and holiday programme based in the school hall and at
Kensington park. We have had some interest from
parents to extend our services to before school. Drop
off for parents will be at our Kensington location and
the service will include breakfast and transport for your
child to school. At this stage, we are seeking further
interest to ensure we have enough children to start the
programme from Term 4. If you are interested, please
pass on your details to receive further information. Call
or text Abbey on 021 237 2598 or email
Measles: Measles is spreading around the North
Island. Measles is VERY infectious - and if you are
not immune, there is a high chance you will get
sick. Measles can be a very serious illness, with
one in three sufferers experiencing
complications such as ear infections, pneumonia,
bronchitis or diarrhoea.
The best protection is to have a measles
vaccination. If you have not had confirmed
measles illness in the past, or you have not
received TWO doses of MMR or measles
containing vaccine, you cannot be sure to be
protected. Immunisation protects not only the
individual, but also stops the spread of this
disease within our communities.
Maori Language Week/Te Wiki o te reo
Maori: This week’s word/kupu is
nau mai which means welcome.
Spell-a-thon: Money can be
handed to the class teacher in
a named, sealed envelope.
Thanks for your support.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful
lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
