Introduction to Gujaratilexicon

The project is aimed at benefiting the lovers of Gujarati Language, Researchers, Academicians, Authors, Journalists, Youth and all Gujaratis across the world.

Gujaratilexicon Digital Dictionary is a Desktop Application. It includes 3 types of Dictionary. Gujarati-Gujarati, Gujarati-English & English-Gujarati Dictionary. It also includes Opposites, Thesaurus, Idioms, Proverbs and Phrases. Gujaratilexicon Language Resources has been enriched by Gujarati dictionaries like Bhagwadgomandal, Bruhad, Sarth, Narm etc. and other important Language Resources.

It is freely available on Gujaratilexicon.com. Alternatively, you can directly download the software on clicking the following link :

Start the Gujaratilexicon Dictionary

After the successful installation of application, you just need to double click on the icon of 'Gujaratilexicon Language Resources'. The icon will look as depicted in the following screen.



You can also open application from Start Menu->Program Files->Gujaratilexicon Language

Resources



When Gujaratilexicon Language Resources are open, you will get a window as shown

below.



User Interface of Gujaratilexicon Language Resources

The User Interface of the application is divided into 5 main parts as depicted:



Menu bar Menu bar contains 4 menu items

File Menu :

File menu contains following options:

Print

Print Options allows you to print the search result. You can print/save the word details in two form: 1) Save as PDF file 2) Directly Print on paper



Exit

Exit Option allows you to exit from the application.



View Menu

This menu contains following options: Font Size :

Font Size option allows you to change font size for better view of search results.

Set Font Type :

Gujarati Language Resources comes with its default font for normal users like you. We recommend that you view the application with the default font. However, if you prefer to use experiment and change the fonts, you can use this option. On selecting this option, the following window will open up:



You can choose any Unicode font, but it is beneficial to not to change font.



Gujarati Keyboard

If you do not want to type directly using the default keyboard, you can enable Gujarati keyboard dialog and type the search word from the dialog.

You can click on the Gujarati Keyboard icon or activate it from the menu View->Gujarati Keyboard. Short key for the same is Ctrl + K. The Keyboard will open on the top of the application.

Click on the character you want to write in Gujarati. The text will be shown in the search box. If the text is fine, press Insert button and you will get the search results for the word.

Now, we will learn to use Gujarati keyboard with an example. Let use the word : દ્મા

+ દ + ્ + મ + ્ા= દ્મા

The following examples will help you to understand writing joint characters:

ક્ષ = ક + ્ + ષ ધ્ધ = ધ + ્ + ધ ડ્ડ = ડ + ્ + ડ

જ્ઞ = જ + ્ + ઞ દ્ધ = દ + ્ + ધ ટ્ટ = ટ + ્ + ટ

ત્ર = ત + ્ + ર દ્ન = દ + ્ + ન હ્મ = હ + ્ + મ

શ્ર્વ = શ + ્ + વ ત્ત = ત + ્ + ત હ્ન = હ + ્ + ન

દ્દ = દ + ્ + દ ન્ન = ન + ્ + ન હ્ય = હ + ્ + ય

Search Area:

Search area is divided in two fields:

Search Box : Area for you to enter the word Search Button : Click this button to get search results

Dictionary Search

By default, search will include results from both, Gujaratilexicon and Bhagwadgomandal. If you want to search in particular dictionary, you can select it from radio button below search box as shown in image above.



Search word into the dictionary Enter Any Gujarati/English word into search box shown into below image and Enter/Click on search button.

Search results will be display in the results of similar words.

To get detail meaning select that word from results and double click on that word. It will shows all result related to that word including Gujarati - Gujarati meaning, Gujarati- English meaning, opposite, phrases, thesaurus, idioms etc. e.g we search for word:



Tool bar

The tool bar is quick option to perform frequent tasks. The self-explanatory options have been explained in detail in the earlier sections.

Back to Search - Shows the previous searched results Font Size – Change the font size for viewing

Keyboard – Activate Keyboard for typing in Gujarati

Print – Prints the search result



Show All Results

On enabling this box, the search results will display all the possible combinations of the input word.



Result area

The Result Area displays the search result for the searched word.

Dictionary

Displays an alphabetical list of words, with information given for each word, usually including meaning, pronunciation, type and vyutpati.

Opposite

Displays antonyms of related word with its type and meaning. Thesaurus

Displays list of synonyms and related words. Idioms

Displays various idioms of the searched word. Proverbs

Displays various Gujarati-English, English – Gujarati and Gujarati – Gujarati Proverbs of the searched word.

Phrases

Displays various proverbs containing the searched word.



Use of Digital Dictionary:

Here, 6 different tabs (Dictionary, Opposites, Thesaurus, Idioms, Proverbs, Phrases) are displayed as indicated. On clicking Search after entering text in search box, you will be able to see list of words containing entered word. The tabs having matching results will get enabled. To see relevant results, navigate the tabs by clicking on the Tab Heading.



Double click the word from a list to view details. You will get all the results for that word. In Dictionary tab, all information like meaning, type, vyutpatti image description etc. of a word will be described. If the input is English word, English to Gujarati results will be displayed and for Gujarati word, Gujarati to Gujarati and Gujarati to English results will be displayed.



Similarly in opposites tab, opposite of a searched word is shown. You will also get meaning and type of word as well as opposite word and its meaning and type.



Idioms, Phrases and Proverbs give meaning of a searched Idioms, Phrase, Proverb respectively. Thesaurus describes the thesaurus results of the searched word.



Here you can also search English word for it's Gujarati meaning, type and pronunciation.



Special Search: Wild Card Characters in Search

Wild card is a character that substitutes for other characters in regular expression. This feature can help you to find the patterned words. You can search with wild card characters in three different ways:

1. With “?” This will list missing character at the place of ?.

E.g. Here you can see the search result of અંત?

Which results all possibilities after word અંત with single character match.



2. With “*” This will list all possible matching world E.g. Here you can see the search result of અંત*

Which results all possibilities after word અંત with multiple characters



3. With both “?” and “*”
