Graduates today are entering a world where the challenges they face, and the expectations placed on them, are of an unprecedented level.

More than any generation previously students will live their lives in a global context, and the University of Glasgow is equipping them with the skills and outlook to do this. We believe in not only nurturing academic achievement but preparing our students to make a contribution to the world as global citizens.

As well as the challenges of a constantly changing world, our students are also facing increased financial pressures. With the cost of education increasing and living expenses now estimated to be on average £14,000 per year* the Scholarships Fund is vital in ensuring Glasgow students are prepared to make as great a contribution to the world today as they have always done.

We teach our students to think independently on a global scale, and your support will help them to achieve this.

Ability and potential, rather than economic background and circumstances, are the most important attributes for any prospective student to the University of Glasgow. Our Talent Scholarship scheme helps to ensure that restricted financial means are no barrier to undergraduate or postgraduate students taking up their place at University.

Talent Scholarships open new possibilities and provide limitless opportunities by supporting Scottish students for whom a higher education would otherwise be impossible. The scholarships enable students to purchase course textbooks and study materials as well as helping with basic living costs, ensuring that some

of the best and brightest students are supported in achieving their potential.

Talent Scholarships provide life-changing opportunities for some of our most exceptional students.

Travel Scholarships allow students to gain important experiences that can expand their horizons, further their research and enhance their employability. Whether it be presenting research findings at a conference, or embarking on a year abroad to study a foreign language, travel opportunities provide greater depth of experience and understanding.

It is our ambition that all students should have the opportunity to enhance not only their academic, but also their life experience during their time at University.

Stewart Sanderson, recipient of the Edwin Morgan Postgraduate Scholarship in Scottish Literature, is grateful for the help it has provided, saying: ‘My research focuses on the translation of poetry into Scots language, an area that Edwin Morgan was passionate about. Donations of any size are extremely welcome to our Scholarships Fund, whether it be small monthly gifts or larger annual gifts to fund full scholarships. Gifts of a sufficient size can also be invested by the University, allowing scholarships to be awarded from the interest generated each year. This means your donation will last in perpetuity.

Recognising your generosity

We want to thank you for your gift and acknowledge your support through our ‘Gifted Schemes’. Regular donations of £5 per month or single gifts of £250 or more will be recognised in our publications and on our online benefactor wall, a web-based version of a traditional donor wall.

You can choose how your dedication appears. Many supporters give a gift in memory of a loved one and their inscription on the donor wall can reflect this.

Naming opportunities

By funding a full scholarship, you will also have the opportunity to establish the scholarship in your name or in memory of a loved one.

Bequests

Many of our supporters choose to remember the University in their Will, leaving a gift that will live on in their memory. Gifts of this kind are extremely valuable in ensuring that the future of the University continues to be as bright as it is today.
