GIVING VOICE TO THE UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE OF INDIAN WOMENThree full-ride scholarships — one for the M.F.A. degree in Directing/Production, one for the M.F.A. degree in Producing and one for the M.F.A. degree in Screenwriting — are designed to give voice to the unique perspective of Indian women. The purpose of the scholarships is to study the art and craft of Directing/Production, Producing and Screenwriting at the prestigious UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA TFT) in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.

WOMEN BORN IN INDIA AND CURRENT CITIZENS OF INDIA ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

THE M.F.A. DEGREE PROGRAM IN DIRECTING/PRODUCTION

The UCLA TFT M.F.A. degree program in Directing/Production is a four-year graduate program designed to develop artists in film, television and digital media with an emphasis on humanistic visual storytelling.

For more than half a century, UCLA TFT has trained students in the art and craft of filmmaking, while also expanding their understanding of the critical, theoretical and historical components of these art forms. The School’s goal is to infuse the highest standards of craftsmanship with the imaginative freedom, innovation and sense of social responsibility.

Distinguished directing alumni include Patricia Cardoso (Real Women Have Curves), Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather), Ava DuVernay (Selma), Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine), Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6), Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants), Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights), Valerie Red-Horse (True Whispers) and Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean).

THE M.F.A. DEGREE PROGRAM IN PRODUCING

The UCLA TFT M.F.A. degree program in Producing is a two-year graduate program designed for creative individuals who wish to pursue careers as creative producers and executives in the entertainment industry. The Producers Program features world-class faculty comprised of studio and network presidents, Oscar and Emmy-winning producers, top entertainment lawyers, and agents and internationally renowned scholars.

THE M.F.A. DEGREE PROGRAM IN SCREENWRITING

The UCLA TFT M.F.A. degree program in Screenwriting is a two-year graduate program that encourages students to concentrate upon the challenge of writing a well-structured story inhabited by vivid, compelling characters. The elements of character, dialogue, scene, setting, texture, style and tone are explored through an intensive workshop process.

Distinguished screenwriting alumni include Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night), Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar), Shane Black (Iron Man 3), David Koepp (Spider-Man, Indiana Jones 4 & 5, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), Josefi na Lopez (Real Women Have Curves), Michael Miner (Robocop), Alexander Payne (Nebraska, The Descendants) and Caroline Williams (Miss Guided).
