Girl Engagement Challenge Badge The intent of this challenge is to connect girls with the programs and opportunities to continue with Guiding. You may earn this badge in pieces. Over the course of time in Guiding, you may challenge for additional pieces within your year of Guiding. You must complete the challenge of the Branch you currently belong to first before moving on to other sections of the challenge. You must complete at least 4 of the bullets (this includes the mandatory) from the levels you are not presently in to earn that piece. There is one mandatory bullet each section that you must complete in order to obtain the piece. The mandatory bullet is indicated in the section at the top. If you have been in Guiding for a number of years you can go back into your Guiding Resume and use it to help you. When girls in the unit have completed a section of the challenge please send what was completed and by whom to the Girl Engagement Co-ordinator at [email protected]. The cost of each section is $0.50. Please complete the form after the challenge requirements have been met and email it in to order crests.

Girl Engagement Challenge Badge

The intent of this challenge is to connect girls with the programs and opportunities to continue

with Guiding. You may earn this badge in pieces. Over the course of time in Guiding, you may

challenge for additional pieces within your year of Guiding. You must complete the challenge of

the Branch you currently belong to first before moving on to other sections of the challenge. You

must complete at least 4 of the bullets (this includes the mandatory) from the levels you are not

Leaders Sparks Brownies

(6 for adults plus mandatory and 5 for pathfinders and up plus mandatory) Mandatory (Adults) – Apply for a position in your District/Area or Provincial Councils Mandatory (Pathfinders and up) – Attend a training/camping/AGM or other weekend.

L1. If you have moved through the Girl Guide movement this is a freebee.

L2. If you are a unit leader this is a freebee.

L3. Know your iMIS number. (Be able to find it when you need it.)

L4. Print a list of your unit from iMIS.

L5. Approach a co-worker, friend, classmate or professional women and asked them to come to a meeting to consider helping as a leader.

L6. Mentor a new member in Guiding.

L7. Attend or Create a PR booth for a community event.

L8. Organize an activity inside or outside that has your unit visible in the public.

L9. Learn the members of the National Council.

L10. Attend a provincial training weekend (in addition to the mandatory one.)

L11. Complete a challenge badge

L12. Work on conflict resolution or Mental Health Wellness skills

L13. Go to another branch and talk about your experience in Guiding

L14. Learn where your “cookie money” goes.

L15. Use Instagram or Twitter to promote guiding in your area.

L16. Track what is going on in Guiding by going on the provincial/national website to stay updated. Report back to your unit what you have been following.

(4 outcomes plus mandatory) Mandatory- Bring a friend to a meeting. Follow up with this friend to find out if they want to come back. Report back to you unit.

S1. Participate in a night activity that you have suggested to your leader.

S2. Plan for a meeting where you can go outside to explore something you have not done but want to try.

S3. Participate in an event that one of your fellow Sparks have suggested.

S4. Wear your complete uniform to a public function with your unit.

S5. Learn about who Lady Baden Powell was and how she shaped Guiding.

S6. Participate in an awareness campaign for Guiding.

S7. Be a promoter of Guiding. Interview an older girl who has been in Guiding to find out why she has stayed in the program.

S8. Be able to give information about yourself such as address, phone number, parents/guardian and leaders actual name.

S9. Participate in a District, Area or Provincial event and collect signatures of other Sparks.

S10. Create a service project or participate in a challenge badge

S11. Participate in an advancement ceremony from Sparks to Brownies.

(5 outcomes plus mandatory) Mandatory – Participate in Cookie Sales with your unit for both cookie campaigns. Wear your full uniform.

B1. Participate in a camp or sleepover where you have helped plan and carry out an activity. This can be with others to support you.

B2. Participate in a district, area or provincial event.

B3. Meet with a Spark unit for a night of games and crafts that you have helped plan. This can be done as a unit event but there must be evidence that the girls have helped plan and carried out the activities.

B4. Research through interviews of adults you know who were girls in Guiding. Have them teach you their favorite song or game or share pictures or other mementos. Share with your unit.

B5. Follow up with a girl who did not continue into the next section of Guiding. Find out what could bring them back and share this with your Unit Guider.

B6. Participate in another challenge badge.

B7. Help your parents fill out permission slips for an activity your unit will participate in. Know your full address, parents’ names and phone numbers to be reached.

B8. Participate in the advancement ceremony from Brownies or Guides

B9. Wear your full uniform to meetings and other events Guiding Events.

Guides Pathfinders Rangers

(6 outcomes plus mandatory) Mandatory – Organize a service project with the help of your parent or guider that benefits the community you live in.

G1. If you have been a Brownie and you advanced to Guides then this is a freebee for you.

G2. Plan an outdoor activity. This should be something you have had little to no experience in. It should be something everyone in your unit can participate in at some level.

G3. Plan an activity that you can invite other levels to.

G4. Plan a craft activity that the members of your unit have not tried before.

G5. Visit another unit to share your experience thus far in Guiding or to ask questions on what is next.

G6. Participate in a Provincial event.

G7. Go on the website and find information about an international, national or provincial trip or event. You do not have to go on the trip but see if you can fill in the paper work out on your own for the application process. Find out if you have what it takes to apply to go?

G8. Complete ten hours of volunteer time that benefits members of your community or family. You need to have this approved by your leaders. You should be in uniform to complete this.

G9. Complete another provincial challenge badge.

(6 outcomes plus mandatory) Mandatory – Plan an event that promotes Guiding in your community. Check with your District and Area Commissioner to make sure you follow Girl Guides Guidelines.

P1. If you have been a Guide and you advanced to Pathfinders then this is a freebee for you.

P2. Attend a fellow Pathfinder’s extracurricular event such as a school play or sporting event. This would be a great unit activity.

P3. Volunteer with your unit at a community event. You should have on your uniform.

P4. Contact a girl who is no longer involved and invite them back to a meeting.

P5. Explore the history of Guiding in your area. Create a PowerPoint or poster to display this information.

P6. Learn about the Safe Guide paperwork needed to take a group on an outdoor activity. Help your parent/guardian fill out your health forms.

P7. Place an article in the Ebb & Flow, Canadian Guider Magazine or on the Website updating what your unit has been doing. Include pictures.

P8. Learn the members of your Provincial council and their roles.

(6 outcomes plus mandatory) Mandatory – Attend a Provincial or National Event.

R1. If you have been a Pathfinder and you advanced to Rangers then this is a freebee for you.

R2. Participate as a Junior Leader with other branches in Guiding. Time to give back.

R3. Share an interest that you have developed due to your time in Guiding. Encourage others in your unit to explore this interest.

R4. Plan a camp or sleepover that you can invite other units to.

R5. Apply for an international trip

R6. Be active in Guiding by reading and keeping updated on the events of the provincial website, Canadian Guider Magazine or Ebb & Flow.

R7. Be part of the Youth Forum or another provincial committee.

R8. Reach out to other girls you have met through Guiding. Follow up on what they are doing.

R9. Learn about what it means to be a Link member and its importance in your next step.

R10. Find out what you can do to stay involved with Girl Guides after you leave Rangers.
