The Arts had us make a flower out of plastic spoons and to add our special touch to a painting. I received some new information about some previous projects and also some information about projects that we may consider doing. The event was well planned and very informative. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope that next year, more club sisters will plan to attend. The GFWC Georgia Central West District meeting is just around the corner. The registration form plus a $25.00 check is due to me by Friday, September 1 st . Also, we have been asked to bring a Dr. Seuss book to the meeting. EDUCATION

(1) Thanks again for the support we received in your donations of school supplies. Y'all were so generous and I am sure the students and staff at Huie were pleased as were the people at Haven House. (2) Bring gently used books for the book swap and we also need children's books for Huie. (3) We are no longer collecting empty computer ink cartridges. (4)Please remember to record all the things you do for education on the sheet this month.

HOME LIFE

Many, many thanks to all club members who made contributions of cookies and deviled eggs for the Tomato Sandwich Party fundraiser for the Good Shepherd Clinic. The event was a great success, and MCWC’s efforts were very much appreciated. Thank you, club members who helped, prepare and serve the dinner for Calvary Refuge Center. The meal was delicious, and the residents enjoyed it. Please be mindful of on-going collections each month: eyeglasses, pop-tops, food pantry donations, and calendars.

PUBLIC ISSUES

RAILROAD SAFETY

Railroad safety is not something we talk about much but too often, someone is killed or badly injured because they did no use safety precautions at railroad crossings or around railroad tracks. A train is too heavy to stop quickly. The average freight train traveling 55 miles per hour takes a mile or more to stop. Some reminders that we already know, but it seems we ignore. LOOK BOTH WAYS. Always expect a train. DON’T GET STUCK ON A TRACK! Before you cross, be sure there is room on the other side to completely clear the tracks. Trains overhang the tracks by at least three feet. GET OUT OF THE WAY!! If your car stalls at a crossing, get everyone out and far away immediately. IF YOU SEE A TRAIN COMING WAIT! An approaching train may be closer and traveling faster than it appears.

Special Project: Women’s History Resource Center (WHRC) Wahoo! Scanning of our club’s scrapbooks resumes this month! It has been several weeks since we last visited the CSU Archives. Oh, my! Will we recall what to do? Thankfully, we have Feechi to assist us! Please consider helping with the archiving process on the following dates: Monday, September 17, 10 am – 2 pm Tuesday, September 18, 10 am – 2 pm
