"And all those who touched Him were healed." Mk 6:53

March. 2013 Volume 26 #1

Our men’s Health Recovery Program is the only respite health care facility in Indiana. Now 13 years old, we have long considered opening up a setting for women to recover and rehab after hospitalization. Women who have no home to return to have increased needs, but with our experience we now feel ready to embark on this new program especially with the anonymous $100,000 challenge grant just received that will start us off.

Come to Art for Beds

Mark your calendar for our clinic’s special event: Art for Beds. The event supports our GFC Health Recovery Program and our other health programs through works from the region’s best artists. Every year the event seems to surpass the year before. Several surprises are planned and a new venue at the Indianapolis Conrad Hotel will allow for increased attendance and more art and auction items this year. Of course, expect gourmet food from the Conrad. Mr and Mrs. Vince Caponi, CEO of St. Vincent Health will serve as honorary chairpersons. We are seeking additional sponsors for the event and items for auction. Hopefully, you will consider purchasing a table to introduce your friends to our clinic and its’ mission. Invitations will be sent shortly for the event on Sunday April 28 at 4 to 7 PM. Please come out and support GFC!

In 25 years, thousands have contributed to the work of GFC by serving the uninsured of Indianapolis. During this time of remembrance, we recall those GFC volunteers and supporters who have passed on. We are grateful for their participation and their time with us is remembered.

A committee has been meeting to determine new directions for GFC especially regarding health insurance reform. The group has grappled with a changing environment and unclear directives and how to plan for the future. We feel confident that even with the most comprehensive and ambitious plans that many will still lack the basics of health care in America. We anticipate addressing those needs in the most efficient and patient centered approach that we can deliver. GFC has once again kept our expenses under budget ending the year with the a small positive balance . We keep less than 6 months of operating expenses in reserve and are trying to build an endowment to get us over “rough patches.” We maintain very low over head and fundraising / administrative expenses. We depend upon your generosity to continue to provide medical, dental and respite care.

GFC News…. GFC welcomes our newest Board Members. They are Ryan Chelli from Community Hospitals marketing department, Dr. Sue Germain, a private dentist involved with the regional dental societies, John Kansky with Indiana Health Information Exchange who is an expert in HIPPA regulations and Dr. Stephan Zentner from St. Vincent Medical Group who has been chairing our Leadership Committee. We expect wonderful contributions from this talented and committed group. Representative Andre Carson sent a warm and appreciative letter to GFC in recognition of our 25 year Anniversary. Mayor Greg Ballard notified us that February would be “GFC Month in the City of Indianapolis.”
