THE LCIF TALENT SHOW RETURNS!

After a few years layoff, LCIF is once again holding a talent show this fall - and this time it will be virtual. In this time of isolation, the talent show event will be a great, fun-filled opportunity for us to connect as a congregation.

Come one, come all; we are asking everyone who is able and willing to participate to do so. Your “talent” can be anything - singing, playing an instrument, reciting a poem, dramatic reading, telling jokes, juggling,

acrobatics, synchronized swimming, kazoo solos, animal noises, impressions and many more - if you can do it, we want to see it (within reason of course). More details below:

LCIF’s got Talent

After a few years layoff, LCIF is once again holding a talent show this fall - and this time it will be virtual. In this time of isolation, the talent show event will be a great, fun-filled opportunity for us to connect as a congregation. Come one, come all; we are asking everyone who is able and willing to participate to do so. Your “talent” can be anything - singing, playing an instrument, reciting a poem, dramatic reading, telling jokes, juggling, acrobatics, synchronized swimming, kazoo solos, animal noises, impressions and many more - if you can do it, we want to see it (within reason of course). Just record a video of your talent on your phone (or other device) and send it to the church by the end of September. Please contact Sherry in the office and she can help you with uploading the file (video files are often way to big to email). We will then compile the videos into a exciting, talent-packed presentation emceed by Pastor Scott, Mark and Sun that we will share as an LCIF Facebook event in October (Date and time to be announced).

We would love to have as many of you participate as possible to make it a truly special event. If any questions, please contact our music minister Mark Anzelon ([email protected] or 818-515-1916) or our Worship and Music committee chair Yvonne Baldwin (818-248-0320).

Thanks so much and we look forward to seeing all your wonderful talent!!

LEARN TO ZOOM Nervous to Zoom ? It's easier with some encouragement

and details about the Zoom tools!

Here are some great tips from our own Renee Brandt:

What is Zooming?

I want to offer encouragement about virtual gatherings not pressure. Zoom has a couple of features that are easy to use that might make you more comfortable trying it.

For example, you can easily mute your microphone so that nobody hears what is going on in your background. If you want to speak, you quickly unmute (with the space bar on your keyboard) and then re- mute (space bar).

This is actually Zoom Etiquette for meetings. To stay muted except when speaking. So, it is easy and acceptable.

When our dog runs around and barks loudly, I mute. I’ve muted so that I can listen to music in the background when a meeting is stressful and I need help to stay calm.

When you turn your microphone off and on, there is a little tiny icon in your picture box on the Zoom display that is black when on and red when off. Very discreet. So you can go off and on, off and on, off and on with your microphone constantly and not disturb the meeting.

Similarly, you can turn off and on your video feed. Then, nobody can see what is going on behind you or what you are doing. For a meeting for Solheim Senior Community, I had to eat dinner during the meeting. I closed my video and muted, then I could see the other participants and listen but not feel self-conscious. I had to “vote” at one point, so I swallowed, opened my camera and unmuted. Then, after the vote, I redid everything and finished dinner.

When you turn your video off and on the display on the monitor does shift (which can distract or disturb the others) so you may not want to go off and on, off and on. But with the Church family, it’s no big deal!

I would be happy to have a practice session with you so you can see what is visible to others and what you could see. I could also take screenshots of me doing these various things so you can see.

You do not have to have an app or an account to join someone else’s meeting. To host a meeting, you do.

If your computer doesn’t have a camera, you can still use Zoom. You’ll see everybody’s video and hear the conversation. You can speak but your video box will just be a still photo (your profile picture).

You can listen in from a telephone. You get all the conversation and you can speak. It’s a toll free number.

Please stay connected with friends and family, including your LCIF family. It’s not hard, it is fun and it helps your life!

Peace and blessings! Renee
