Mal- colm Luce, who was also home on leave from the South Pacific. The Luces communicate with Malcolm via Ham radio several times daily and hope to be able to contact Lonnie In the same manner. N. Y. State Council Of Churches Held Meeting The Right Reverend Walter M. Hig- ley. Bishop of the Diocese of Central New York of the Episcopal Church, Syracuse, was recently re-elected presi - dent of the New York State Council of Churches. •Hie elecMon concluded the llOth .session of the Assembly of the State Council on February 3rd. During the two-day conclave, the Assembly inquired into the program of the State Council of Churches, heai’- Ing reports from the executive staff. One of the high points of the pro- gram was the address of the Reverend David Bowman, S.J. who spoke to the Assembly on "Ecumenism Today and Tomorrow, in New York.” Father Bow- man Is assistant director of the De- partment of Faith and Order for the National Council of Churches and is the first Roman Catholic to serve as executive staff of the National Council of Churches. Father Bowman interpreted the re- cent actions of the Vatican Council In regard to ecumenical relationships with Protestant and Orthodox churches. His premises was that there Is one Church of Christ and that all Christians are members of it. “Each church body is a unique pai’t of the Church of Christ,’’ said Father Bowman. He went on to note areas of together- ness. He noted all can pray together, have common celebrations of religious days and occasions, and meet in con- versation to better under.stand the pos- itions of each other. Better Business Bureau Hit Agency Selling Trips To Moon When a New York newspaper car- ried a story about a Brooklyn travel agency accepting $10 deposits for trips to the moon, the Better Business Bur- eau of Metropolitan New York asked the agency. Variety Travel Service, Inc., of 1213 Remsen Avenue, Brooklyn, what was happening to the money being collected. The newspaper also quoted an of- ficial of NASA (the National Aero- nautics and Space Administration) as saying that no commercial travel to the moon could be possible before the year 2,000. An inquiry to George G. Hattem, president of Variety Travel Service, Inc., brought an interesting reply. He claimed that the money collected was being deposited into “an escrow ac- count.” And he wrote: “The purpose of this campaign is not for commercial travel in space in the year 2,000 but to get one of my group on the moon with- in the next two or three years along- side the astronauts.” The Better Business Bureau then sent a representative to the agency. Mr. Hattem claimed that he had writ- ten to NASA and had a reply from them. He also said that some 60 ap- plicants had left $10 deposits, but he declined to reveal the name of the bank in which the money is being kept In escrow. While the Better Business Bureau realizes that many companies conduct campaigns for publicity purposes, it feels that this one is deceptive and seriously questions its validity. A sign in the window, of the agency says: "Reservations to the Moon Being Ac- cepted Here Now! Subject to CAB Approval.” Emmett Dean, manager of the Bet- ter Business Bureau’s Financial and Commercial Division, promptly called the Civil Aeronautics Board in Wash- ington, D. C. and was given the follow- ing information: The CAB has not disclaimed author- ity over civilian flights to the moon. Variety Travel Agency, Inc., has not, to the best of their knowledge, filed an application with the CAB for permis- sion for the moon flights. ’The CAB would never grant such ap- proval to an application of this kind from a travel agency. The Better Business Bureau of Met- ropolitan New York advises would-be travelers to the moon to hold on to their $10 deposits and preferably to keep the mony in their own bank ac- count, where it will collect Interest. “Wait until the CAB or some other re.sponslble government agency an- nounces plans for civilian travel to the moon,” says Mr. Dean. N. Y. State Council Of Churches Held Meeting

The R ight Reverend W alter M. Hig- ley. Bishop of the Diocese of Central New York of the Episcopal Church, Syracuse, was recently re-elected president of the New York State Council of Churches.

•Hie elecMon concluded the llOth .session of the Assembly of the State Council on February 3rd.

During the two-day conclave, the Assembly inquired into the program of the State Council of Churches, heai’- Ing reports from the executive staff.

One of the high points of the program was the address of the Reverend David Bowman, S.J. who spoke to the Assembly on "Ecumenism Today and Tomorrow, in New York.” F ather Bowm an Is assistant director of the Departm ent of F aith and Order for the National Council of Churches and is the first Roman Catholic to serve as executive staff of the National Council of Churches.

F ather Bowman interpreted the re cent actions of the Vatican Council In regard to ecumenical relationships with P rotestant and Orthodox churches. His premises was th a t there Is one Church of Christ and th a t all Christians are members of it. “Each church body is a unique pai’t of the Church of Christ,’’ said F ather Bowman.

He went on to note areas of togetherness. He noted all can pray together, have common celebrations of religious days and occasions, and meet in conversation to better under.stand the positions of each other.

Better Business Bureau Hit Agency Selling Trips To Moon

W hen a New York newspaper carried a story about a Brooklyn travel agency accepting $10 deposits for trips to the moon, the Better Business B ureau of M etropolitan New York asked the agency. Variety Travel Service, Inc., of 1213 Remsen Avenue, Brooklyn, what was happening to the money being collected.

The newspaper also quoted an official of NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) as saying th a t no commercial travel to the moon could be possible before the year 2,000.

An inquiry to George G. Hattem, president of Variety Travel Service, Inc., brought an interesting reply. He claimed th a t the money collected was being deposited into “an escrow account.” And he wrote: “The purpose of this campaign is not for commercial travel in space in the year 2,000 but to get one of my group on the moon w ithin the next two or three years alongside the astronauts.”

The Better Business Bureau then sent a representative to the agency. Mr. H attem claimed th a t he had w ritten to NASA and had a reply from them. He also said th a t some 60 ap plicants had left $10 deposits, but he declined to reveal the name of the bank in which the money is being kept In escrow.

While the B etter Business Bureau realizes th a t many companies conduct campaigns for publicity purposes, it feels th a t th is one is deceptive and seriously questions its validity. A sign in the window, of the agency says: "Reservations to the Moon Being Accepted Here Now! Subject to CAB Approval.”

Em m ett Dean, m anager of the Better Business Bureau’s Financial and Commercial Division, promptly called the Civil Aeronautics Board in W ashington, D. C. and was given the following inform ation:

The CAB has not disclaimed au thority over civilian flights to the moon.

Variety Travel Agency, Inc., has not, to the best of their knowledge, filed an application with the CAB for permission for the moon flights.

’The CAB would never g ran t such ap proval to an application of this kind from a travel agency.

The B etter Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York advises would-be travelers to the moon to hold on to their $10 deposits and preferably to keep the mony in their own bank account, where it will collect Interest.

“W ait until the CAB or some other re.sponslble government agency a n nounces plans for civilian travel to the moon,” says Mr. Dean.
