Introduction
During March of 2003 a grid was established over two mining claims in Swayze Township and a subsequent magnetic survey was performed over the lines. The work was performed by Edward Jerome of Sudbury, Ontario.
A total of 35 km of grid was established. The baseline measured 2.5 km and the cross lines totaled 32.5 km. The magnetic survey covered 32.5 km.
The project area is located approximately 185 km west of Timmins, Ontario. The claims are located in the northeastern corner of Swayze Township. The two unpatented mining claims cover 21 claim units
Location and Access
The work is located in Swayze Township.
Access can be gained to the property by driving west from Timmins to Foleyet and following a lumber road to the Dore Road turnoff. Access from Sudbury can be gained by going north on Hwy 144 and turning west at the Watershed Restaurant to the Dore Road turnoff. Dore Road will lead you to the former Kenty Gold Mine site, which is where the contractor stayed during the program.
Property
The property surveyed consists of two mining claims held by Mr. Douglas Scott. Claim 1244073 was recorded March 30, 2001 and claim 1244074 recorded April 26, 2001. The Mining claims are part of a larger land holding that includes the former old Kenty Gold Mine.
Local Geology
The area consists of early Precambrian metavolcanic-metasedimentary rocks that have been intruded by younger Archean felsic and mafic dikes. The rock units strike in a northeast to east direction. Metamorphism is of the greenshist facies. Intruding the lithological units are north to northerly trending diabase dikes. The faults or shear zones trend in an east-northeast to northeast direction. (H. C. Rickaby)
Previous Work
The area has an extensive work history. In 1931 the Kenty Brothers staked and developed the Kenty Gold Mine. Active in the area over the years have been Charles Mortimer who has done some overburden stripping and assaying in the early 90's, MPH Consulting and Cree Lake Resources have performed programs of geological, geochemical and geophysical surveying in the late 80's. Can Mac Exploration performed trenching and drilling programs in the late 80's. WMC was in the area in the mid 1990's and performed a large exploration program consisting of diamond and overburden drilling, geological studies and assaying. The area has seen exploration work done by Inco and Falconbridge Limited.
Magnetic Survey
The geophysical survey was performed on a grid established in March of 2003 by E. Jerome. There was still a considerable amount of snow in the bush at the time of the work. The Baseline line was established in a north-south direction. All cross lines run in an east-west direction. Figure 2, shows the grid location.
The instruments used were a proton precession mag. All readings were taken at intervals of 25 m along the east-west lines.
The magnetic survey picked up a few moderate highs that may be explained by diabase dykes or the mafic metavolcanics in the area. It is difficult to determine what the cause of any of the anomalies are since the ground is still snow covered and the geology cannot be seen. The areas will be visited once the snow melts and the bush conditions improve.
The magnetic survey was performed as preliminary work on the property. Although it was not successful in identifying and locating drill targets, the grid and the information gained is only the start of a larger program.
An exploration program covering more ground in the area is planned for the summer and fall of 2003. The planned work will consist of thoroughly prospecting the established grid. The grid may be extended in order to cover more ground. In addition, old strippings and trenched areas will be cleaned out and examined. Since there have been several companies in the area over the years and the property has a long history, we anticipate that we'll come across a large number of old workings.
