CURVES AND PROFILES CURVES include lines and arcs A PROFILE is a closed region made up of curves When you have trouble with a sketch that you can’t extrude, it’s because it

isn’t a complete profile

Page 3: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 1 Start a new METRIC part Turn visibility on Make a new sketch on the XY plane Make sure the cube in the top right is flipped right side up

Page 4: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 2 We are going to draw this in a

very specific way. The exact placement doesn’t

matter But it’s location in reference to the

XY axes does matter Don’t worry about measurement

now Start in the top left quadrent, and

draw the shape shown. Make sure the points wind up in the correct quadrant.

Page 5: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 3 Add a CENTER POINT CIRCLE that

is in quadrant one of Arbitrary Size

Arbitrary Size = Size doesn’t matter

Page 6: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 4 Add a line that is Coincident to

the circle - See the how the coincident box pops up on my drawing?

It should also be coincident to the bottom line

Page 7: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 5 Edit Sketch by dragging

the CENTER POINT of circle up and to the right.

The circle will automatically change size because it need to keep constrained to the diagonal line

Page 8: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 6 Drag the lines and points of

your sketch around so that it looks approximately like mine You can move lines by click

on them End points can also be

moved For the circle you can move

the edge and the center point

Page 9: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 7 We are going to add a couple

constraints The first is a measurement

constraint, DO NOT CHANGE THE NUMBER YOU GET

This is still a rough sketch

Page 10: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 8 Add a tangent constraint between

the circle and the diagonal line

Page 11: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 9 Trim and Extend are used to the

shorten/lengthen an object. This will help you make profiles.

Use extend to bring the top line over to the circle

Page 12: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 10 Use TRIM to lop off the extra in

the bottom right corner

Page 13: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 11 Add a vertical

dimension between the center of the circle and the top line.

Change the dimension to 0 so they are aligned

Page 14: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 12 Add the

dimensions shown, again, don’t worry about the size, just the fact that they exist

Trim the circle

Page 15: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 13 Add the four

2mm fillets shown

Page 16: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 14 Add a fix constraint to the center

of the arc, once you add this your drawing will be fully constrained

Page 17: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 15 Change the

measurements to the ones shown

Since the drawing is fully constrained, it shouldn’t get all weird when you finish changing them

Page 18: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 16 Finish the sketch Extrude it 5mm

Page 19: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 17 Create a new sketch on the front

surface of the shape.

Page 20: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 18 Click offset, then click the edge of

the shape and move your mouse towards the center of the object

Page 21: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 19 Add a dimension

between the original and the offset profile and set it to 15

Page 22: Geometric Construction Tools

DO 20 Finish the sketch Cut out the interior And your done, save your work as D6-Gasket
