How IP Addresses Work:

LocalAdLink uses geo-targeting technology which determines the IP Address of a website visitor and delivers targeted content to that visitor based on their location.

Every computer on the internet is assigned a unique IP address by their internet service provider (ISP), such as Cox

Cable, Verizon, etc. An IP Address provides location information of a computer such as country, region, and city. An IP

address is much like a mailing address but for your home computer. Everyone has a unique address and it allows other

computers to know where you or your ISP is in the world.

Geo-targeting of Ads on LocalAdLink.com

When you first arrive at LocalAdLink.com, the website detects your IP address and related location information

provided by your ISP. Using this location data with our geo-targeting technology, business listings in your area are

displayed.

When you find yourself in a situation where LocalAdLink.com shows you

listings that are not from your area, simply go to the top right of the page

to the “Find Businesses in your local area” section and submit your loca-

tion information (zip code, city, town, state or area code) in order to dis-

play the listings in your area. This special case is required since some

ISP companies will purchase a large block of IP addresses and regis-

ter them all with their company’s physical mailing address. This type of

setup on the ISP’s end will cause business listings from another area

(the area in which your ISP registered the large block of IP addresses)

to be displayed. This is most likely to occur when you are connecting to

the internet from hotels, smaller communities or AOL service.

Geo-targeting of Ads on BOOMj and Affiliate Partner Websites

BOOMj and their affiliate partners utilize LocalAdLink’s proprietary ad

server software in order to display LocalAdLink business listings on their

website. The ad server software uses the same LocalAdLink geo-tar-

geting technology in order to display business listings in your area. The

ad server will detect their IP address and show LocalAdLink business

listings based on where their ISP tells them they are located. Some us-

ers may get ads that are in another area, but nationwide that is about

17% of the population. When you find yourself in a situation where

LocalAdLink.com shows you listings that are not from your area, simply

go to the top right of the page to the “Find Businesses in your local area”

section and submit your location information (zip code, city, town, state

or area code) in order to display the listings in your area.

How Zip Code Targeting Works:When a new listing is added to LocalAdLink, our system will ask you to target the zip codes that you would like your listing and

advertisements to show up in.

When someone types in the search for a business by zip code on LocalAdLink.com, business listings set up to be targeted

to that specific zip code will be displayed. If a user types in a town to search by, business listings will be displayed if any of

your targeted zip codes are in that town.

If a user goes to another website and that website has our ad server on it, business listings will be displayed if their IP ad-

dress identifies them belonging to the town that one of your targeted zip codes may belong to.
