• Music genres help music industries specifically target a market,that is why they are always keen to categorise music. Music magazine featuring different genres also help consumers looking for a particular type of genre find the magazine easily.

Genre Conventions :1. Front cover with a featured artist-This being on the

front of the magazine,immediately alerts passers by of what the magazine is about and ideas of some of the things that will be featured.

2. Contents Page-This navigates the consumer around the magazine and helps them find the things that they will like to read first,the contents page makes the reading of the magazine free and enjoyable.

3. Latest news and interviews will be featured about rock industry which will keep people updated about what is going on and upcoming things concerning the rock industry.

History of rock music….

• Rock music is a genre of music that began the mainstream in the 1960s. It originated in the United States of America and has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, rhythm and blues, country music and also drew on folk music,jazz and classical music.

• In 1955 Bill Hayleys hit song “Rock around the clock” became the first rock and roll song to top Billboards magazine’s sales and airplay charts and opened the door worldwide for this new wave of popular culture,Rock was beginning to expand and become something new as the years went on,new artists came and changed the industry.

• Alan Freed began playing rhythm and blues music for a multi-racial audience, and first used the phrase "rock and roll" to describe the music.

• Some of the sub genres of rock are:Alternative rock - Art rock - Beat music -Christian rock - Desert rock - Detroit rock -Experimental rock - Garage rock - Girl group -Glam rock - Group Sounds - Grunge - Hard rock - Heartland rock - Heavy metal.

• Rock music is now becoming a more common feature in popular music companies,e.g Sony's number of rock and roll artists is increases as so is there an base,so there is higher demand for rock music as it had no become glamorous and new. E.g Mary J Blidges collaboration with U2. There is now a growing link between rock and r’n’b so there is more demand as the genre is becoming popular. Continued on the next slide.

•Prices of these magazines can vary from £1.20 to £2.50 varying on the quality of the magazine,magazines seem to have the same features-front cover/contents/main feature/interviews/reviews. All of this depends on the magazine,as they could be featuring different artists,etc.

•In the feature,I can see rock music becoming a phenomenon world wide and people who are mostly used to listening to rock music converting to rock and liking it,there will be new collaborations and I can see rock and hip hop and r’n’b joining voices to create a whole music genre. Music is forever changing,so it looks set for the next decade to be rock filled.
