WHAT WE BELIEVE

As a student or a parent, we feel that it is important for you to know what we believe to be true about God. As you read below, feel free to contact Pastor Brad with any questions that you may have regarding our belief statement. Our doors are always open to you.

WE BELIEVE…

· In one God, our Creator, who makes Himself known to us as Father, Son (Jesus), and Spirit.

· Jesus the Christ was fully God and fully human.

· The Bible is the inspired Word of God, and it is relevant (it has something to say) to all people, in all places, and all cultures at all times

· All people have sinned and need God's grace and forgiveness which is free and made available to all people through Jesus' death on the cross.

· God wants a relationship with all people, and has gone to great lengths to draw us to Himself; however, the decision to respond is ours.

· God has offered forgiveness to us. To receive forgiveness and eternal life, an one must turn his or her life toward God, away from sin, and trust in Jesus.

· As Christians, we need to offer every part of our lives to God, holding nothing back (the word for this in the Bible is sanctification).

· When we give ourselves to God in this way, His Spirit can fully mold us like clay in the hands of a potter.

· He wants to mold us into the image of Jesus. As we become more and more like Jesus, His perfect love is increasingly reflected in our attitudes and in the way we act. When we give all of ourselves to God, he empowers us to really live, to live the life that we were created to live.

· The Church is the Body of Christ, and it carries out His purposes in the world. The true Church is God's way of working in the world, doing what Jesus did and what He would do, putting brokenness back together.

· God can, and does, heal.

· Jesus is coming again.

Behavioral Guidelines

It is not our intention at FSM to be rules‐driven. However, we are here to create a safe place for teens to come, and to help our Christian students to grow in Christ‐likeness. And for those who may not be interested in that at this point, our church represents Christ, and when students are with us, it is our responsibility to point them toward what Christ would want for them. Therefore, we have put in place guidelines for conduct and appearance, and we expect our students to adhere to it. If a student fails to comply with these guidelines, the process is as follows (per event):

1. Incident #1 ‐ the event director will speak with student and remind him/her of the guidelines, and a plan will be made to comply.

2. Incident #2 – if the behavior persists, the student’s parents will be called to discuss the issue.

3. Incident #3 – if the previous efforts fail, the student will be sent home at the expense of his/her parents—no questions; no compromise.

The Behavioral Guidelines are as follows:

Note: if certain individual events have additional

Guidelines, they must be adhered to.

1. The following are not permitted: tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or prescription drugs (unless designated for medical use by Guardian), weapons of any kind (knives, guns, etc.)

2. Students are to dress appropriately at all times according to the following standards a. Girls

i. Students are not to wear halter tops or tube tops of any kind.

ii. Shorts must be an appropriate length. No bottom cheek showing!

iii. Bathing suits must be either one‐piece or an appropriate two‐piece. It may not be string or “cheeky” Must be high-waisted and cover the bust well.

b. Guys

i. Student must wear shirts at all times except when swimming.

ii. Pants with holes in inappropriate places are not allowed.

c. STUDENT MININSTRIES STAFF HAS THE RIGHT TO QUESTION CLOTHING THAT WE FEEL IS NOT APPROPRIATE.

3. Students are to conduct themselves appropriately at all times according to the following standards

a. We will not tolerate PDA (public displays of affection) between students. This is for all people, whether you are dating the person or not. PDA includes kissing, hugging, sitting on laps, and laying on each other. It simply is not appropriate.

Please be respectful of this.

b. Our goal is to create a physically and emotionally safe place for any and all students who wish to come. Therefore, we will not tolerate:

1. Gossiping

2. Cursing

3. Inappropriate conversation

4. Disrespect for Student Ministries Staff, or for other students

c. If you have a bad attitude, keep it to yourself. Negativity is contagious. (By the way, so it positivity!)

4. No secular music (unless we allow it in specific instances), questionable magazines or books, etc. We are

5. During Student Ministry trips and special events, cell‐phone usage will be limited to conversations with parents and other necessary calls.

6. If on an overnight event, girls and guys are to stay in their designated areas after bedtime.

Individual Student Accounts

Throughout the year, we will be scheduling fundraising opportunities for our students to raise money to fund their student ministry activities. These fundraisers are listed for you on the following page, labeled “Fundraising”. Individual accounts are set up for each student who participates in a fundraiser. For example, if the fundraiser is something like a car wash, we will generate a list of those teens who participated in the car wash. Then, after we have deducted our car wash expenses from our income, we will take the profit and divide it equally among those participants. That money will go into his or her account, and will belong to that student to use for participation in student ministry activities. You are welcome to ask for account balances anytime.

There are also fundraisers that are individual, and the same goes with that money. As it is turned in, it is placed in the student’s account for use. It is entirely up to the student to be sure that everything is turned in so that the money is credited properly into the student account. For those who participate, there is money, and a lot of it, to be made. For those who don’t, there is not. It’s that simple.

The procedure for using your student account to pay for an event is:

1. Fill out a Student Account Voucher (you will find these in your packet.)

2. Turn it in to the Fuse Black Box no less than one week prior to the date on which the monies are due. Please be specific as to what event the money will be paying for.

3. We will credit that money toward the event for your student.

We encourage you to take some time now, at the beginning of the year, look through this Handbook, and begin to plan to set aside funds to help your student participate throughout the year. That could really ease the stress on your family as events approach more and more rapidly. We truly feel that there is no better way to invest your money than in providing opportunities for your student to experience Christ with their peers.

We have done our part to be sure that teens are able to attend events without hindrance. Please get involved with our fundraising, and let’s make this year a success!

*Change in registration process:

We will no longer be doing any of the registration for our students. Parents/Guardians will be fully responsible for the timely registration for any events. You may request the funds available through with the voucher in this handbook. We will then get the funds to you so you can proceed with registration. When complete, please forward the information to the youth pastor. Please use the money responsibly, for the use of the teen function only. We trust that you will.
