RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNINGDo you know basic general information about the combine? Do you know how to communicate and pilot? Then contact your lecturer about Recognition of Prior Learning! If they are of the belief that you do, you won’t need to do this course!

GENERAL GAME INFORMATIONWelcome to the game and to the confederacy, its great to have you here! Star Wars Combine is a simulation which places a character made by you in the driver’s seat. It will, if you allow it, become your second life. Please note however, that combat is still being implemented, and that game events, like in real life, take time to complete. For example, hyperspace can take sometimes weeks to complete! Of course, inside

Page 5: General education

Confederate space, the average time is at maximum 2 days. Of course that doesn’t prevent you from interacting with other people, in fact, to the contrary, we encourage that you interact with other confederates. No-one will be looking down at you for interacting with others. We also strongly encourage you to get onto IRC (For details on how to, please see the academy board). Now, if you haven't selected a starting location, please contact your faction’s leader in order to find out if you can spawn at the faction headquarters. If you have already spawned, please contract the director of logistics to organise transportation.

COMMUNICATIONPlease note, everything from here-on is accessible. You must get a score of 80% in order to pass Basics. Communication is one of the most important features of the game, and can sometimes be confusing for new players. There are 3 main communication portals in the Confederacy. Firstly there's darkness messaging, the in-game messaging feature

Page 7: General education
Page 8: General education

This is perhapes the most common one to one messaging service in the game. Most of your communications between your boss and yourself will be here. This is also the most secure of all the communication features. It is against the rules to hack another person’s account. Another communication method employed in the confederacy is the Internet Relay Chat, or IRC for short. For information on setting up IRC, please read the threat, Setting up your IRC. IRC takes many looks, however it is an instant chat like MSN or ICQ. Each IRC is different and it is recommended that if the Mirc doesn’t work, that you speak with your faction leader for alternatives.

Page 9: General education

The final version of communications is the forums, located at http://cis.createaforum.com/index.php.

If you are reading this, then chances are you are already on the forums. If not, we strongly encourage that you do, as well as your faction’s forum using your in-character name. Failure to do that will result in your account being deleted and you will need to recreate it. The forum has many boards, depending on your access level. If you believe you have the wrong access level, please contract your leader to have it fixed.

THE BASICS OF PILOTINGThe main feature of the game is piloting, or the control of a ship/vehicle. Firstly, you need to be on-board your ship/Vehicle. For this example I will be piloting a Vehicle. To board your Vehicle is as easy as clicking a button, The following slides will show you how to access the cockpit of your Vehicle. Please note that every Vehicle and ship are slightly different, but the idea is still the same

Page 11: General education

• Firstly, we need to board the Vehicle. To do this we must first go to board

Page 12: General education

• On this screen we see every Vehicle and Ship in which we have crewlist access to. If you do not see the correct Vehicle or Ship, then your not on its crewlist!

Page 13: General education

• For this example, we are going to board SX-65 Groundhog Prospect #1. To do this, we have to click board.

Page 14: General education

• Now that we are on-board the Groundhog, we must go to the cockpit. At the moment we are standing in the Entrance Room.

Page 15: General education

• The room we want to go to is the Cockpit, which is currently circled in red

Page 16: General education

• In order to move to another room, we much select one that is shaded in blue. In this case, the Cockpit is shaded in blue, so we can move there by clicking on any section of the blue area.

Page 17: General education

• By moving to this room, the blue shading will disappear, and in your Control section (Below location) it will have the option of Vehicle control

Page 18: General education

• In order to use any of your ship/vehicle’s functions, you must be in the controls mode. To access this you click The controls button in the Control section

Page 19: General education

• It will then take you to this screen. This is your Cockpit. For ease of reading , I have split it in half over the next two slides

Page 20: General education
Page 21: General education

• I will now go through what each of the buttons do in relation to the SX-65 Groundhog. While some of the features are different from others, there are some that are generic for all transports.
