General Councilors with the SND InternationalLeadership Team visit St. Claire Regional

Submitted by: Judi Lambert, SCR Administrative Director, Missions Integration and Pastoral Care

St. Claire Regional recently shared how the hospital lives its mission with the Sisters of Notre Dame from Rome. Srs. M. Shauna and Sreeja are both general councilors on the international leadership team of the Sisters of Notre Dame. The international Sisters toured the hospital as part of their visit with the Sisters of Notre Dame Covington Province.

During their visit, SCR Leadership team members shared key information about the hospital’s history, services and service region. The sisters were then taken on tours of the hospital and the Center for Health, Education and Research following lunch.

While visiting St. Claire Regional, the sisters met with David Gross and Julie Stephens of AHEC and Sr. Anushila. Sr. Anushila, who recently arrived from India, is doing an observership with St. Claire Regional and is a family practice physician. Srs. Shauna and Sreeja were very interested in the observership and learning more about what Sr. Anushila will be doing during her stay with St. Claire Regional.

The Sisters of Notre Dame Covington Province have sponsored St. Claire Regional since its opening in 1963. The medical center is one of many ministries supported by the Covington Province; others include the Uganda, East Africa Mission and education programs throughout Northern Kentucky. The Sisters of Notre Dame support a variety of ministries on five continents, with more than 20 provinces. To learn more about the ministries of the Sisters of Notre Dame, visit www.snd1.org.

Don Carpenter, Certified Pharmacy Tech, recently won the International Education Exchange (IEE) competition for his presentation on “BMV and the Road to Success.” Barcode Medication Verification (BMV) is the proccess now used by SCR staff who administer medication to verify correct drug, dose, route and time as a safety feature. The process also documents the dose administration in the electronic medical record, and generates a charge for Financial Services.

IEE is a sponsored program by Medical Users Software Exchange (MUSE). The IEE competition is held at the annual MUSE International conference. Applicants submit their presentation for review to the MUSE board members where they are judged on professionalism and how useful the information would be to the overseas counterparts. Once the judges have made their votes, the CEO tallies the results and the top five finalists are selected and judged during the MUSE International conference. The winner of the IEE competition is selected to present their presentation at the European conference.

Great work Don for an outstanding achievement!

June 9 was a great day for St. Claire Regional volunteers. After a productive year of fundraising, the SCR Volunteer Auxiliary pre-sented a check for $40,000 to the St. Claire Foundation Greatest Need Fund. This brought the fiscal year end total to $50,000. The money is raised through special sales, raffles, gift shop purchases and donations made by our volunteers.

During the donation event, Mark Neff pulled out a winning ticket for the beautiful butterfly quilt that was created by several St. Claire Volunteers. Cathy White, who is an SCR employee, was the winner! Cathy said she bought her chances from Andy Pelfrey, a volunteer, who was selling tickets in our cafeteria. Congratulations to Cathy and thank you for supporting the SCR Volunteers. Money raised from the quilt raffle was designated to the new 2016 St. Claire Regional Auxiliary Scholarship fund.

The volunteers would like to express their appreciation to all those who support our fundraising efforts. Because of your support some really great things have an opportunity to happen!
