Every day, our newsbrands and radio stations tell the stories that matter, informing and entertaining audiences of every gender, race, age and socio-economic background.

Appealing to different audiences means that we must invest in diverse talent atNews UK, and we retain our commitment to ensuring that women and men fromall backgrounds have equal opportunities for promotion and are remuneratedfairly.

Our second Gender Pay Report, covering 2017/18, shows positive momentum across the organisation.

Across the News UK group as a whole, both the hourly mean and median pay gapshave reduced year-on-year at News UK Group. New hires to the business wereequal between genders in the reporting period.

At Times Newspapers Limited there were improvements in both the mean andmedian pay gap, whilst News Group Newspapers has increased the proportion ofwomen working across the business and improved its median pay gap. For thefirst time we report figures for Wireless, our radio business, creating a newbaseline from which to assess progress.

I’m proud of the steps we have taken to champion women in the organisation and to promote diversity. In the last year we have:

- launched a Diversity Board, which will drive initiatives across the business.

- introduced regular Women in Leadership networking events, encouraging oursenior executives to invite the female leaders of tomorrow to get involved.

- committed to increasing practical support for our female staff by introducingmaternity coaches across the business and developing parental workshopprogrammes.

- we are piloting a Recruitment Training and Unconscious Bias programme toensure that no applicant is inadvertently discriminated against in the hiringprocess.

NOTE FROM THE CEO

Our titles also continue to champion women for all our audiences.

- The Times celebrated International Women’s Day by hosting an editorialconference for female leaders across different sectors and had an all-female backbench for the IWD edition.

- The Sun’s Hear She Roars campaign celebrated the determination andcommitment of women who are excelling in football, and tackled some of thenegative perception barriers preventing grassroots participation.

Meanwhile our News Academy continues to offer opportunities to youngsters froma full range of backgrounds, motivating them to pursue careers in the media. Ihope they are inspired by the many talented women and men they meet in ourbusiness, and that when they look at my own executive leadership team, which ishalf female, they will see that opportunities here are open to all.

There is more to do, but as a business we are moving in the right direction, building on progress to ensure equal opportunities across News UK.
