B5 Stock/ Back Plate
By: Eric Shing, Inderbir Deol & Birinder Deol
B5 Stock/ Back Plate
• Push pin assembly to marker• Holds internals of marker together• Doubles as battery compartment door
Issue Of Current Design:
• Sloped at awkward angle• Current design encourages marker to move in
a downward, sliding motion towards the armpit during operation
Proposed Design
• Addresses awkward angle• Encourages marker to recoil into shoulder of
user
Market
• Owners of the B5 modification• Values ergonomics of bullpup marker design• Receptive of modifications that would further
enhance ergonomics of current design
Costs Over 4 Year PeriodEquipment, 100,000
Labor, 2,000,000
Material, 7,800,000
Overhead, 1,980,000
Shipping, 660,000
Packaging, 660,000
Selling Price
Total cost over 4 years for Tooling, Labor, Materials, Overhead, Shipping, and Packaging:$100000 + $2000000 + $7800000 + $1980000 + $660000 + $660000= $13200000
Cost per part:$13200000/ 4800000 Parts = $2.75 per part
Final selling price, for a profit of 30%:$3.58 per piece.
Critical Tolerance: Function
• Distance between holes for pushpins make or break the design
• Improperly positioned pushpin holes will render product completely useless
Critical Tolerance: Cost• Simple go/ no-go fixture required for checks• Fixture should add no more than $500 to
equipment Costs• If additional employee is required to perform
go/ no-go check, additional cost of labor is $50,000 per year, $200,000 for four year production run
• Each part, with additional employee, is now $2.78 ($13,400,500/ 4,800,000)

CAD Critical Dimension
Manufacturing
WHY?
• This machine allows for faster processing because the screw rotates 100% of the time
WHY?
• The possibility of a small shot size is reduced using this process.
WHY?
• Capable of achieving great external details in the part
• This process is capable of producing high quality parts with a low rejection rates. This process has been proven in the industry since being developed in the 1950s
Quality Control
• Measuring the holes for pin specification using a 0.25 in go gauge and a .261 in no gauge
Quality Control
• The distance between the holes will be checked using a go no-go fixture.
