1. Introduction
About this Document
Objective The purpose of this document is to provide detailed installation and cablinginstructions on the proper installation of a single WiBAS Base station RadioBox – BRB 10.5 GHz (corresponding to one WiBAS-C sector).
Targetaudience
This document is intended for technical personnel (installers) with experiencein the installation and assembly of outdoor radio equipment, on the buildings’roofs, and especially on masts or towers.
The installers must also have experience in carrying out antenna alignmentworks, by using the appropriate tools (compass, inclinometer, etc.) and therequired site information (geographical co-ordinates, etc.).
Further, it is recommended that the installers are familiarized with thedangerous conditions that may exist during the installation of telecomequipment in outdoor environments and on high buildings or structures.

Safety Precautions
WORKING ON THE BUILDING’S ROOF
During stormy weather, do not perform any mechanical assembly orantenna beaming works on the building’s roof.
The metal structure of towers/ masts is prone to lightning.
PLUGGING/ UNPLUGGING COAXIAL CONNECTORS
Never plug (or unplug) the connector of the coaxial IF cables from theoutdoor transceiver boxes (BRBs), when the respective indoor equipmentis powered on and operating.
There is risk of equipment failure and/ or electrical shock, as the IF cable carriesthe DC operating voltage (-48 V) for the outdoor transceiver.
Before plugging or unplugging the IF cable in/ from the BRB box, you must firstextract or shut down the respective interconnected indoor unit.
PROPER GROUNDING
Ensure the effectiveness of the construction of the grounding systembefore powering up the WiBAS equipment at the Base Station.
In case of inappropriate grounding system, there is risk of equipment failure and/or electrical shock.
Ensure that the outdoor grounding system measures a path resistance of < 3 Ω.

outdoor equipment. (see Appendix for Site Survey Form)

Outdoorgroundingsystem
A dedicated, low-resistance grounding system (typically < 3 Ω) is required.
A grounding point (designated GND) should be located close to the mountingposition of the BRB radio boxes.
Each BRB will be connected to this grounding point, via the suppliedgrounding cable. This will provide protection of the equipment againstharmful lightning conditions.
Coaxial cables The coaxial cables, connecting the indoor units with the outdoor BRB boxes,should be of coaxial 75-ohm type.
The maximum length of these cables depends on their quality and the
degradation that they impose to the IF signal.Typical lengths are 145 m, using low-loss coaxial cable (RG-11)
NOTE
Under no circumstance should the total attenuation (imposed bythe coaxial cable itself) exceed 15 dB.
Proximity toGSM (2G / 3G)installations
GSM Cables:
The WiBAS coaxial cables must be spaced f rom neighboring GSM cablesand antennas for at least 30cm. This guideline mainly refers to the RG-6cable, of which the screening effectiveness may severely be deteriorated if
not properly rolled out. Therefore, the use of RG-11 type is highlyrecommended.
As a general rule, the close proximity with the GSM cables should beavoided (wherever this is possible). The more distance the WiBAS cablesare running in parallel with the GSM cables, the higher the amount ofinterference that will be collected.
The cable must be in good condition, without any visible breakings ordeterioration and properly terminated, as instructed in this manual.
Also, extra care must be taken during the cable unrolling from the bin, asaccidental twists may affect cable’s performance.
GSM Antennas:
When WiBAS and GSM equipment is to be collocated, BRB must beinstalled on the same pole / mast, below or above the neighboring GSMantennas and at a distance no less than 4 m.
If a different pole / mast is the only option, then the BRB should be installedin such a way that it is located outside the -20 dB radiation pattern of allneighboring 2G / 3G antennas, with a minimum horizontal distance of 4 m between the pole (where the BRB and the BRA are installed) and the polesaccommodating GSM antennas.

Premisesrequirements
• The outdoor equipment, inclusive of the BRBs, should be mounted on a
mast or on a tower.• The mast, onto which a BRB system is to be mounted, should be perfectly
perpendicular to allow correct alignment of the antenna.
• For wall mounting installation:
− The wall-mounting surface should be cement or brick masonry.
− The holes, required for inserting the wall plugs (upats), should be drilledat positions where no built-in cables are running.
• Each antenna should point toward the covered geographical sector,according to the planned co-ordinates. No obstacles should exist within theantennas’ beaming lobes.
• Access to the installation premises must be facilitated during the installationperiod.
• The roof must be engineered to bear the weight of the service personneland the outdoor equipment.
• Appropriate cable conduits should exist for the routing of installed cables,inclusive of the coaxial IF cable(s) connecting the indoor equipment withthe outdoor BRB boxes on the building’s roof .

3. Unpacking / Checking the Delivered Equipment
Introduction This section describes the contents of the delivered WiBAS Base Station
equipment packaging.
NOTE
For all the equipment delivered onsite, it is highly recommendedto note down the serial numbers (S/N) and the models, and keepthem for future reference.
NOTE
Do not throw away the packages and the associated packingmaterial of the delivered items. These should be stored in a safeplace and kept in good condition for future re-use.
NOTE
The BRB – BRA interconnection cable is not included in the
BRB’s package contents. Make sure that you have one availableprior beginning the installation. Refer to Chapter Tools, Kits &Accessories, page 14

Introduction This section provides detailed instructions on the outdoor installation of the
BRB radio box and associated components.The whole installation procedure for a single BRB system can be carried outby one man and requires approx. 15 min.

Installing the Mounting Bracket
Introduction The mounting bracket (supplied) is used for supporting one standalone BRB
radio box, on a wall or mast. This bracket is installed first, prior to theinstallation of the BRB.
Installationoptions
The mounting bracket can be installed on a pole / mast:

Preparation The mounting bracket should coarsely point toward the right direction before
it is f ixed on the pole/ mast. This ensures that no re-installation of themounting bracket will be needed.
An appropriate method is to install the mounting bracket so that its cantilever(1) is perpendicular to the supporting plate (2) and is also pointing towardthe center of the azimuth angle of the respective geographical sector, asshown below:

4 Using the R.13 spanner, install the BRB handle (2) and themounting bracket bolts (3) in the appropriate BRB positions:

Installing BRB
Introduction This procedure concerns the installation of BRB onto the prior-installed
mounting bracket. The instructions given here in after show the polemounting installation.
Beware not to install the BRB unit with the IF and RFconnection receptacles facing upwards.
In case of rain there is a possibility that water may enter the radiobox.
Always install the BRB box with the IF and RF connectors facingdownwards.
Procedure To carry out the installation of the BRB onto the mounting bracket, proceedas follows:
Step Action
1 Using the R.13 spanner, unscrew the two M8 bolts / grovers /washers located at the side of BRB.
2 Hold the ΒRΒ and re-install the two M8 bolts / grovers / washers,as shown below:
3 Tighten both bolts to secure the BRB in place. Apply a finaltorque of 20 Nm.

Grounding the BRB
Introduction This procedure concerns the connection of the BRB to a low-resistance
grounding system (< 3 Ω), as required for outdoor radio installations.
Procedure Step Action
1 Pick up the supplied grounding cable found in the packaging ofBRB. This cable is factory pre-terminated.
NOTE
The square terminal of the grounding cable will beinstalled on the BRB.
2 Τhe grounding point onto the BRB is shown below :
3 Using the screwdriver PH3, unscrew from this position the M4 x 8screw and its two grovers
4 In the M4 x 8 screw (2), pass the first M4 grover (3), then thesquare terminal (4) of the grounding cable, then the second M4grover (3).

5 Re-place and fully tighten the M4 x 8 screw to secure thegrounding cable on the BRB box. Apply a maximum tighteningtorque of 2 Nm.
6 Make use of the BRB-INST installation kit (refer to page 16),items 1, 5, 6 and 7, to properly terminate and install the other endof the grounding cable onto the tower’s grounding terminal.

Preparing the Coaxial Cable
Introduction This section concerns the termination of the coaxial 75 Ω cable (RG-11) at
the BRB side. This cable will be used for interconnecting the BRB with theindoor WiBAS Base Station unit.
RG-11terminationprocedure
To terminate the RG-11 coaxial cable, proceed as follows:

Step Action6 Flare and evenly fold braid back and over the cable sheath.
DO NOT remove the exposed aluminum foil.

NOTE
The piece of tubing should be worn over theconnector, covering its ring entirely, and also two orthree centimeters of cable’s jacket (close toconnector), as shown in the right photo below.

Connecting the Cables to the BRB
Prerequisite The BRA antenna should be located on the same pole with the BRB box.
The latter should be spaced from the BRA no more than 1.20m and shouldalways have a Minimum Bend Radius (MBR) of 30mm.
Introduction This section concerns the installation of the terminated cables, coaxial andBRB – BRA interconnection cables, onto the BRB.
NOTE
After completing the termination and installation of the coaxialcable at the Base Station, it is strongly recommended to placeappropriate adhesive labels at both ends of the cable, for easyidentification of the assigned sector at any time.

Procedure To install the terminated coaxial cable (RG-11) onto the BRB, proceed as
follows:Step Action
1 Using the appropriate ratchet spanner(1), install the F-typeconnector of the terminated coaxial cable onto the BRB’s matingF-type receptacle. To locate, refer to picture on page 25.
Apply a maximum tightening torque of 4.4 Nm.
The other end of the cable would be connected to the WiBASindoor system.
2NOTE
The BRA-BRB interconnection cable isterminated to a male N-Type connector atboth ends.
Using the appropriate ratchet spanner(2), install the N-Typeconnector of the BRB – BRA interconnection cable onto theBRB’s mating N-Type receptacle (see photo below).
Apply a maximum tightening torque of 1.1 Nm.
Connect the other end of the cable to the mating N-Typereceptor on the BRA.

Fastening Cables
Introduction
This procedure concerns the fastening of cables when BRB and BRA areinstalled on a pole / mast.
NOTE
Prior of fastening the cables on the pole, you should haveinstalled the BRA on the pole according to the instructionssupplied with the BRA.
