    Gavilan College oers three options for

    career education:

    Associates Degree

    Certicate of Achievement

    (18 or more units)

    Certicate of Prociency(fewer than 18 units)

    All provide instruction in the skills and

    knowledge needed to enter a skilled or

    semi-professional occupation. Associates

    Degree programs require completion of

    general ediucation requirements.

    Certicate programs vary in the

    number of units required.

    Occupational certicate programs are

    developed in close cooperation withadvisory committees made up of

    representatives from business and

    industry. These advisory committees

    review courses and make recommendations

    about technical content so that students

    will be prepared for the current technology

    of the job market.

    Certicate of Prociency and Certicate of

    Achievement require a grade of 2.0 (C) or

    better in each course.

    Administration of Justice

    Prepares students to transfer for study inAdministration of Justice, Law Enforcement,

    Correctional Administration, Social Science,and Pre-Law.

    Allied Health - Nursing

    Programs of study include Clinical MedicalAssistant, Nursing Assistant Convalescent,Home Health Aide, Vocational Nursing VN,

    Registered Nurse RN

    Aviation Maintenance Technology

    Graduates are prepared for the followingoccupations: aerospace, aviation mechanic,

    aircraft service-person or repair or salespersonof aircraft accessories and airframe specialist.

    Graduates are eligible to take the FederalAviation Administration Airframe & Powerplantqualication tests.

    Business

    This program includes options in the followingareas: Accounting, General Business,General Ofce Skills, Medical Ofce,

    Retail Management, Business ComputerApplications, and Computerized Accounting.

    Child Development

    This program prepares students to work in theeld of early childhood education, recreation,and before- and after-school care. Students

    completing the certicates may be employed

    as infant toddler, preschool, or school ageprofessionals, as well as tutors, childcare

    specialists or other paraprofessionals forpublic and private agencies.

    Computer Graphics and Design

    CGD prepares graduates for proposing,

    manufacturing and marketing real and/orvirtual products. Skills attained include: entrylevel design technicians and/or engineering,

    architecture, environmental planning,animation, industrial, product and other designfor transfer students.

    Computer Science Information Systems

    This eld of study includes Business ComputerApplications, Computer Networking, Computer

    Programming, Programming for the Internet,Scientic Programming, UNIX OperatingSystem, Computer Hardware, Intro to

    Computer Networking, Operating Systems,and PC Hardware.

    Cooperative Work Experience

    The Cooperative Work Experience Programprovides an opportunity for the students to apply

    knowledge gained from the classroom in the workor volunteer environment.

    Cosmetology / Esthetician

    Graduates are prepared to take the CaliforniaState Board of Barbering and Cosmetologylicensing examination and are trained for

    employment in theireld. The EstheticianProgram offers two

    courses: Scientic SkinCare and AdvancedScientic Skin Care

    for two consecutivesemesters leading

    to a Certicate ofAchievement in Esthetics.

    Digital Media

    Students studying digital media learn fundamental

    concepts and complex techniques. Degree andcerticate options include Art and Imaging, Audio/Video, Interactive Media and Authoring, Digital

    Imaging/ Graphics Production Specialist, DigitalPrint Production Specialist, Digital Video EditorSpecialist, and Web Page Production Specialist.
