Welcome Welcome

Welcome to the July-August edition of our regular newsletter, The Gatsby. Well, another two months of 'interesting' times have passed by and it's great to see life returning to (our new) normal here at Beachmere Bay. It's been wonderful to witness everyone out and about again, with resort facilities re-opened and our favourite group activities starting back.

As you'll see on Page 3, Stage 1A has recently been unveiled and it's been a highly anticipated launch. Stage 1A features premium homes packed full of exciting upgrades, as standard. We've also seen the opening of the stunning Hamptons-inspired aged caring community just across Bishop Road. Palm Lake Care Beachmere has features and finishes beyond anything seen in aged care in this area before now, and the relaxing Moreton Bay views are something else. Take a sneak peek inside this building via our photos on Page 10.

I'd also like to draw your attention to Page 9 of this newsletter where we've interviewed two wonderful clients, Steve and Jenny, whom I feel honoured to now also call friends. It surely is a great aspect of my job that I get to meet and find dream homes for people like these two. It's people like Steve and Jenny who add enormously to the fabric of our community. There's no doubt we are building a physically amazing resort here at Beachmere Bay but the community being built around the luxury homes and world-class facilities is the real prize!

Interested in joining us? We are taking booking for private resort tours now. Phone us to find out about the Palm Lake Resort 'New Home Bonus' - you could score $25,000 off your new Beachmere Bay home (before December 2020, T&Cs apply)!

BEACHMERE BAY’S EASTPORT DESIGN EXUDES NEW YORK STYLE AND THE CASUAL BEACHMERE BAY’S EASTPORT DESIGN EXUDES NEW YORK STYLE AND THE CASUAL ELEGANCE OF THE HAMPTONS. IT’S THE SOPHISTICATED PALM LAKE RESORT ABODE THAT ELEGANCE OF THE HAMPTONS. IT’S THE SOPHISTICATED PALM LAKE RESORT ABODE THAT OFFERS A LUXURY HOLIDAY-EVERYDAY FEEL. OFFERS A LUXURY HOLIDAY-EVERYDAY FEEL.

Eastport brings NewYork style

At 203.4sqm (21.89 squares), Beachmere Bay’s Eastport design offers ample room for two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an activity room that doubles as a guest bedroom, hobby zone or even a productive home office.

The open-plan kitchen/dining/living area is made even more vast by the adjoining undercover outdoor living area. It’s a sun-drenched alfresco haven that is easily accessed through large glass sliding doors off the living room as well as similar glass sliders off the master suite. The alfresco area was strategically positioned to visually and physically expand whichever area of the home its occupants were enjoying at the time: the master suite or the open-plan living area. And the alfresco living space is not only perfectly suited to its actual Beachmere bayside location, but also the Hamptons area that inspired Eastport’s design.

This home is, in fact, filled to the brim with those Hamptons-style fittings and finishes that the entire resort was styled on. Eastport’s neat portico and grand entrance porch are what command immediate attention on approach. Weatherboard cladding, ample windows (including clear inserts in the panel-lift double garage door) and a chic neutral colour

scheme combine for instant Hamptons appeal. Inside, the Hamptons-style features and fittings are subtle, yet numerous. Sophistication is found in the optional extra details in the cornice as well as the mid-level decorative dado rail and VJ-profile cladding on the lower portion of key feature walls.

Slick, gloss white, large-format marble-look floor tiles were chosen for the main living area and continue into the bathrooms. The grey veins in these tiles coordinate perfectly with the grey tones of the exquisite feature marble wall tiles in both bathrooms. These marble tiles add instant luxury and their fish-scale shape demand attention.

Business as (un)usual Business as (un)usual

It’s business as (un)usual here at Beachmere Bay. We are still hosting on-site resort tours (including walk-throughs of our display homes and resort facilities) however, bookings are essential so we can ensure social distancing measures are adhered to. Otherwise, enjoy the delights of Beachmere Bay via our recently updated website. Our clever virtual walk-through capability will have you touring our Hamptons Country Club and display homes from the comfort of your own home. Easy! For private resort tour bookings or any additional information, phone 1800 338 382 or visit www.beachmerebay.com.au

But it’s in the kitchen that the Hamptons fittings and finishes are most obvious. Shaker-style cabinetry is completed by elegant silver handles. Stylish chrome pendant lights hang over the 40mm stone benchtop, delicately illuminating the island and its undermount sink with designer tapware (including additional instant hot/cold Billi tap). A bold navy blue 2-pac finish completes the kitchen island cabinetry while making a bold statement against the balance of the kitchen’s chic white cabinetry. Premium European appliances were the obvious choice for a kitchen of this level of workmanship.

While there’s Hamptons wow-factor in many obvious places across this Eastport home, it’s the more subtle additions that add cream to the offering. A study nook keeps home administration tasks neatly in check. Ducted air conditioning, solar power (complete with Enphase battery) and a local alarm system are just some of the other more hidden details that matter.

Eastport is a home that commands interest and it’s helping Palm Lake Resort sell the dream holiday-everyday retirement lifestyle on offer at Beachmere Bay.

Our newest Palm Lake Resort homes are filled to the brim with luxury fittings and finishes as well as clever design elements that make them such coveted and comfortable abodes. But even in our low-maintenance downsizers, don’t think you can’t extend their awesomeness beyond the internal walls – there’s a brilliant backyard just waiting for your creative touch! And if there’s one state of our country that offers a climate for backyard bliss, it’s Queensland. Here are some ways to capitalise on your Palm Lake Resort home’s backyard space and make it an area that you and your visitors enjoy spending time in:

GO GREEN It’s the obvious thing but a lush, green garden is ever so welcoming. Speak to your local nursery staff about what types of plants suit your home’s position (closely observe how the sun falls on your various garden beds before you head to the nursery) and also take into account how green your thumb actually is. Choose hardy plants if you’re a plant newbie, to avoid disappointment! A simple irrigation system is worth the expense when setting up your garden – many systems can be controlled via an app on your smartphone when you’re away on holidays. Layering your plants is also important – choose a few taller feature specimens, add mid-level lushness and then also consider groundcovers for full effect. Choosing a few key varieties and planting them enmasse can have greater impact than a random assortment of loads of different plants. When done, mulching your garden beds is equal parts function and form, finishing off the project neatly.

GAME ON You don’t need a huge backyard to have a huge amount of backyard fun – in fact, there is a whole range of yard-friendly games on the market. Classic Bocce can’t be beaten. All you need is a Bocce set and you’re on your way! Lawn bowls lovers will love Bocce as the objective is similar: get your team’s balls closer to the pallino (the first ball put into play) than the other team’s. Alternatively, you may want to invest in a Finska set. This game involves throwing a wooden block at a cluster of 12 wooden cylinders, which are marked with the numbers one to 12. Your score is based on the total of the numbers on the cylinders you knock over. The first to exactly 50 points wins, but if ‘accidentally’ you score above 50, your score drops back to 25 and you start accumulating points again. You can even seek out jumbo backyard versions of those classic indoor family games like Jenga, chess and Yahtzee.

GROW YOUR OWN A small vegetable patch can reap big rewards, especially when it comes to the pride felt when eating your own homegrown produce. Even the smallest of garden beds can be utilised for a veggie patch or you could group together a few larger decorator pots filled with premium potting mix. Lettuce is an easy veg to grow that is also quick to reach harvest. There are also many dwarf tomato varieties that grow to roughly 50cm, which is prefect for a small veggie patch. Shallots, French beans and spinach are compact growers. Beetroot and onions don’t take up too much space and are fun for the kids to dig up when mature. Snow peas will only need a small climbing frame from Bunnings to produce glorious results. Preparing your ground is key – use rich composted soil. Water and fertilise regularly for fast results. This is one project that’s perfect to share with the grandies – for the educational aspects as well as the bonding. And it’s always good to work with your likeminded neighbours to ensure a wide variety of produce is grown which can then be shared around.

Small yard, big plans

WRIGGLING WONDERS If you’ve committed to a veggie patch, another cool addition to a small backyard is a worm farm. For around $150, you can set yourself up with a neat and compact worm farm and all the things you’ll need to support your new little wriggly pets. Worms will compost your kitchen scraps while also producing worm ‘tea’ fertiliser and the richest composted soil for your plants. When a worm farm is working efficiently, there’s no smell. And they will sit unobtrusively in a shady spot in your yard. It’s another one of those backyard beauties that the grandkids will LOVE! And, trust us, your neighbours will want some of your magic worm tea for their gardens too – bottle it up and share it around!

GARDEN ART Another way to bring wow factor to your backyard is via garden art. There are endless options but have you considered:

• Decorative screens/panels (widely available at hardware stores) which look great installed

against a plain fence or among plants.• Statues and sculptural figures, subtly installed

among the greenery for a surprise ‘pop’ of interest.

• Water features - the sound of gentle running water is soothing and relaxing.

• Paint a feature wall – they aren’t just for inside.

TAKE A SEAT A commonly overlooked element of backyards is seating. Create places to stop and take in the vista you’ve created. The more unexpected, the better. Maybe you can install a bench near your veggie patch that doubles as storage for a few small garden tools? Or position a couple of chairs and a small table to overlook the water feature? Sitting among the plants in your backyard, with the sun on your back, is proven to be amazing therapy.

Steve Morris loved rock 'n' roll from the moment he first heard Eric Clapton croon through the grain of his transistor radio. He loved it so much he started learning acoustic guitar at age 14, inspired by the tunes of Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley, too. But as Steve got older, his busy career – in the army, then as a tradie, a police officer, public prosecutor and a criminal defence lawyer, among other things – saw his musical talents limited to the confines of his shower. Until now, that is.

“My partner Jenny and I moved into Palm Lake Resort Beachmere Bay about 18 months ago,” says Steve. “It’s no coincidence that that’s also when I threw myself back into playing the guitar – much to Jenny’s chagrin, I think!”

Jenny and Steve, who were living in Caloundra at the time, had heard about Palm Lake Resort through the grapevine, and they attended a function at Palm Lake Resort Beachmere Sands to see what all the fuss was about. A few months later, the couple was shown a canal-front home during a tour of Beachmere Bay and Steve fell in love on the spot.

“I walked in the front door and out to the back patio and told our Sales Consultant, Nicole, ‘We’ll take it’,” says Steve. “She was eager to show us the rest of the available homes, but my mind was made up. I knew that house – which soon became our home – was the one.”

Steve has already turned their backyard into a waterfront sanctuary, with a pergola and an array of hanging plants adding to the Zen. But it’s having complete access to the resort’s dedicated music room that is the icing on the cake for Steve. As if making up for lost time, Steve dove headfirst into guitar, even joining a band with two Beachmere Sands residents and four other locals from outside the resort. Together, the "Beachmere KATZ", as they're known, perform at Palm Lake Resort functions – including the upcoming opening of the new Beachmere Bay undercover

lawn bowls green – and at a handful of events and venues around the area.

“It’s all just a bit of fun – we do a lot of old school rock 'n' roll, like Chuck Berry, the Rolling Stones and even a bit of Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley,” says Steve. “The guys I play with have 50-odd years of experience under their belt, so they’ve taught me a lot. They’re very patient with me.”

With an ever-growing collection of acoustic and electric guitars and plenty of time and space to practice without interruption, Steve is well on his way to Rolling Stones-status – “I’ve been told I look like ‘Keef’ Richards on stage, only worse,” he jokes.

“I have wanted to play the guitar my whole life – in fact, I retired to do exactly that,” says Steve. “To be able to make use of the music room whenever I want, store my guitars there and play in a band with incredible musicians is a dream come true. I’ve got to pinch myself every day.”

BEYOND THE ABUNDANT ACTIVITIES, CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY AND BEAUTIFUL CANAL-BEYOND THE ABUNDANT ACTIVITIES, CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY AND BEAUTIFUL CANAL-FRONT HOME, IT WAS THE CHANCE TO FULFIL A LIFELONG DREAM THAT MADE STEVE MORRIS FRONT HOME, IT WAS THE CHANCE TO FULFIL A LIFELONG DREAM THAT MADE STEVE MORRIS SURE PALM LAKE RESORT BEACHMERE BAY WAS THE PLACE FOR HIM.SURE PALM LAKE RESORT BEACHMERE BAY WAS THE PLACE FOR HIM.

WHAT A STUNNER!NEWSLETTER WENT TO PRINT. WHAT A STUNNER!

Palm Lake Care open!

As the winter season rolls around and COVID-19 restrictions are easing gradually, our homeowners are relishing the return to activities and get-togethers, albeit still a little different at the moment.

We are very lucky to live at Beachmere Bay and what a better place to call home during a global pandemic? Our resort has afforded us the safety of a secure gated location, in wonderful surroundings, with plenty of wide open spaces for exercise and walking our fur-babies, as well as a golf course and beach walks all available to our homeowners. Who could ask for more?

As well as our usual exercise classes, we now have added armchair yoga and tai chi for all ability levels. Meals are still being home delivered by our staff in the ‘Beachmere Bay Uber Eats’ buggy with most homeowners taking the opportunity to enjoy a night off cooking and washing dishes! Why wouldn’t you enjoy life here at the Bay?

It will only be a few short weeks until the new Sports Centre and championship undercover eight-rink lawn bowls green are complete for all to enjoy. There will be no excuse for not having fun and joining in a social game of bowls once that grand facility is complete. The works have been going full steam ahead over the past few months to complete the facilities for the homeowners to utilise as soon as COVID-19 restrictions allow. Maybe we can soon even have a return of the Palm Lake Cup, which was so successful last year between Caloundra Cay and Beachmere Bay, along with our other Palm Lake Resort counterparts.

We have had several new homeowners join us here at Beachmere Bay over the past few weeks. We wish those people a very warm welcome to your new home and community, and we are sure it will be everything you want and more. Before long you will make new friends and be right at home here as part of the greater Palm Lake Resort family.

As always, we owe a big vote of thanks to our staff who have excelled throughout the past few months and continue to keep the facilities as sanitised as

possible for the safety of all our homeowners. We are ever so grateful for them.
