Team Teaching/Diad Model**Students will start the day in their

homerooms, and switch at 11:30 for the day**

Specials (Tues-Fri, in the morning)

• No specials on Mondays.

• MUST HAVE tennis shoes for P.E.

• All students will attend P.E.

Math• Problem solving focus using AZCCRS standards

in each math unit

• Daily Math review of previously learned skills

• Interactive notebooks become the text and work area for each student

• Intervention/enrichment support Mrs. McAdams, Ms. Nicole offer support Mrs. Williams, gifted enrichment

• Lessons are recorded and completed in the Interactive Science Notebook

Language Arts• Reading

Literature/Novel Studies related to U.S. history Guided Reading Vocabulary Skills BIG focus on informational text!!! SWBST – summarizing strategy Close Reading of informational texts

• Book Adventures It is an online program similar to AR. Please be patient with us starting and implementing

this program, as it is new to us.

Language Arts continued…

• Writing Grammar skills 5-paragraph essays, part of AZ Merit Final drafts will be typed Writing Process Self-revision and editing 6 Traits Writing

• Ideas• Organization• Voice• Word Choice• Sentence Fluency• Conventions

Assignment Policy• High expectations

• Daily Assignments Work not completed in class must be finished at home Students must read 20-30 minutes a day at home

• Agendas: Our expectation is that students fill out agendas completely. Agendas can be found on teachers’ websites. Highlighted or circled items are due the next day. Bigger projects will have a specified due date.

• Binders:. Binders will be used in the classroom as a student portfolio of work.

• Folder: Vinyl/plastic folders contain papers to be left at home or brought right back to school.

Standards Based Grading and Report

Cards• No letter grades

• 4 = exceeding expectations, higher level thinking and vocabulary demonstrated beyond what has been taught

• 3 = meeting grade level expectations

• 2 = approaching the grade expectations, still needs a little help

• 1 = falls far below, cannot complete without help

Field Trip & Volunteers• Field trip arrangements are TBD; more

information to come.

• Volunteers Tier 2 Volunteer packets must be completed and

turned in to work with students• Talk to Larraine in the front office for volunteer info• If you completed one last year you are still eligible• Be prepared for 6th grade Science Camp. While

signing up for tier 2, sign up for tier 3 to be a volunteer next year for this event!

• Rumor has it that fingerprints are taking an extra long time. Don’t wait!

Ways to Volunteer at GWP• Make copies for the teacher

• Volunteer to help at PTO events

• Cut out lamination

• Volunteer in cafeteria

• Field Trips

• Work at events during the school day, such as Fun Run, Field Day, book fairs

• Shelve books in the library

• Volunteer clearance packets available in the office from Larraine
