Gas distribution network

TALIS 3 2 TALIS

Around 50,000 kilometres of pipelines, some with diameter of up to 1.60 m, extend throughout Europe and connect the European trunk pipeline network with the pipelines delivering the gas from Northern and Eastern Europe.

For distribution by local energy suppliers much smaller pipelines are used in order to assure effective, safe and environmentally friendly energy supply. TALIS valves are used in the trunk pipeline network and in the distribution network in particular.

Before the gas reaches homes and companies, it has to travel through many kilometres of pipelines and pipe networks. Biogas generation plants play a more and more important role in today’s energy mix.

TALIS 3

When used in gas pipelines the tightness of the valve is the uppermost premise. A pressure test in accordance with DIN 3230 part 5 PG1 and PG3 is therefore carried out as standard on all our valves.

The range is supplemented by a broad product range for the use in biogas plants, where depending on the circumstances (e. g. with regard to the pH value, the proportion of organic acids or the temperature) TALIS can provide the cor-rect valve in each case.

Our products for gas distribution networks• Resilient-seated and metal-seated gate valves• Knife gate valves• Double eccentric butterfly valves• Tapping systems• Repair clamps

The TALIS product range for gas distribution networks

Resilient-seated gate valvesA classic state-of-the-art product is the TALIS BAKIO® gate valve. Gate valves have already been used in the ancient world but still today the design offers a crucial advantage: once the gate has been opened, the wedge moves completely out of the passageway and hence is no obstacle to the medium flow.

The TALIS BAKIO gate valve as the latest generation of gate valves offers a lot of further advantages, such as an insert-type stem bearing [1] enabling seam-less bonnet coating for complete corrosion protection and sealing of the spin-dle bearing with o-rings which can be replaced under full working pressure if required. An integrated spindle screw end stop guarantees increased safety and the innovative protective cap with integrated sealing lips serves as secure seal-ing against dust and moisture.

The shut-off wedge made from top-quality cast iron with complete elastomer sheathing guarantees a soft seal and one hundred per cent tightness [2]. Guide profiles with integrated sliding blocks ensure easier actuation. Optimum cor-rosion protection is guaranteed by EKB fusion bonded epoxy to GSK or fibre-reinforced Pro-Enamel.

For gas networks, the TALIS BAKIO gate valve is available with flanged connec-tion as well as with PE 100 ends on both sides for electrofusion fittings or butt welding. A special solution made of cast steel is also available.

Double-eccentric butterfly valvesThe ERHARD ROCO® Premium butterfly valve as a logical and consistent devel-opment of the ERHARD butterfly valves that have been tried and tested for many years stands for highest quality in the nominal sizes DN 80 to 600. Perfect solu-tions ensure outstanding product properties with respect to operating safety, durability and cost effectiveness. The innovative polygon shaft-hub connection [1] features a completely shut valve eye, does not need any additional con-necting elements and hence no separation joints and offers 20 % more torque reserves thanks to the notch-free polygonal profile with the same shaft diam-eter. State of the art, precision production technologies enable the connection to be made absolutely free of play and, together with the flow-optimised shape of the valve disc, prevents any fluttering whatsoever. The innovative design also allows complete encapsulation of the connection between the shaft and valve disc [3] and, therefore, there will be no contact between the shafts and the medium any longer. Sealing consistently and logically occurs at coated parts of the component, a decisive plus for protection against corrosion and durability.

Further advantages:• Safe sealing using a rolled up, solid seat ring made of stainless steel or in the

enamelled version, it sits directly on the smooth vitreous enamel.• Fully rubberised NBR clamping ring [2] which simultaneously serves as

a sealing element, can be easily readjusted and, if necessary, can be easily replaced at any time.

• Double-eccentrically supported valve disc with optimised flow performance.• Sliding crank mechanism with optimal movement kinematics that is almost

exactly corresponding to the valve’s characteristic curve.

The ERHARD ROCO Premium butterfly valve is available with EKB fusion bonded epoxy coating and flanged connections for the use in gas networks.

Centric butterfly valvesThe perfected BELGICAST ECLI butterfly valve is a butterfly valve of centric design and compact face-to-face dimension being used in cases where valves for clamping in or flange-mounting are needed. The sophisticated design guar-antees perfect leak tightness and a long service life:• Replaceable elastomer body seat ring, safe against mechanical and hydrody-

namical strains

• Anchoring of the seat ring in the body to avoid any displacements when retracting the valve disc

• Positive and frictional disc/shaft connection for functionally safe connection without fluttering.

• Maintenance-free, self-lubricating and PTFE coated bearing bushes, triple-bearing shaft bearing assembly

Tapping SystemsIn the case of the ERHARD ABS Premium service valve, it has been possible to significantly reduce the number of designs required. There is one type of hous-ing for each of the various outlets. This means that adaptation to the various types and diameters of pipes only requires a flexible clamp. Together with the optimisation of the weight of the housing, this reduces logistical costs and facili-tates day-to-day use.

The well thought through design always ensures safe operation:• Operationally reliable and tilt-resistant pinion shaft which is centrally

arranged above the middle of the pipe and supported in a corrosion-protected shaft feedthrough

• Robust gearing for transmission of the rotary motion to the rotary disc which has a material thickness of 4 mm for a high level of operational safety

• Smooth disc surface for preventing the forming of deposits• Shear action between rotary disc and sealing rings for self-cleaning • Opened and closed by 1¾ turns in order to be sure of avoiding pressure surges

at high flow rates• Robust and reliable end stops• Multi-seal O-rings on the pinion shaft, steel-reinforced sealing rings on the

rotary disc, gasket, and saddle seal incorporating Duo sealing system• Reliable corrosion protection thanks to EKB fusion bonded epoxy coating

Repair clampsSCHMIEDING repair clamps are used for permanent repair of cracks, breaks and holes in cast iron, steel, PVC and fibre cement pipes. For HDPE pipes, they can be used as anything from a temporary seal to a permanent pipeline, but they are not suitable for underground installation.

After technical clearance, the repair clamps can be used for gas lines up to 5 bar. All types – whether one-, two- or three-part – have the same basic struc-ture. They are made of premium A2 stainless steel. This gives them a low weight that makes them easy to use. During installation, the pre-rolled stainless steel plate is firmly clamped around the pipe using a nut-and-bolt locking system. Bolts and clamps are welded into one unit, and the guide handle is the only mov-able part. This means that no parts should be removed from the clamp during installation. The turnbuckles are flat and designed without sharp edges, which increases installation safety. Inside, the clamp is lined with an NBR rubber seal. The grid-shaped seal is adhered firmly to the sheet metal and overlaps itself in the clamp. After installation, the grid creates closed cells that ensure an opti-mal seal. The tension created by the lock is converted to radial pressure on the seal during installation. All of these features make installation fast and simple.

For fast, easy, permanent repair of gas lines up to PN 10, WAFREGA RDS pipe break sealing clamps are used. They are suitable for steel, PVC and asbes-tos cement pipes, and in a special design for cast iron pipes. The body of the pipe break sealing clamps is made of EN-JS1030 ductile cast iron and has a black, two-component varnish for corrosion protection. This makes the pipe break sealing clamps suitable even for underground installation. The seals made of NBR rubber are firmly vulcanized into the clamps at the factory and are designed as overlapping lamellas for an optimal seal. Bolts, nuts and washers are made of DIN 603 hot-dip galvanized steel. A2 stainless-steel bolts are also available.

SCHMIEDING RDS pipe break sealing clamps come in two- or three-part designs. Their use depends on both the individual installation scenario and personal preference. In practice, pipe break sealing clamps are not used for permanent repair of damaged pipes, but often as a simple, inexpensive option for creating outlets when tapping the pipe. The SCHMIEDING line also includes numerous designs with internal or external threads, as well as flange outlets, with each variant in two- and three-part versions.
