TINY GREENS GREAT FLAVORHealthy Microgreens

Caryl WattersonGrowing Microgreens is easy, fun and a perfect green-thumb activity for the winter. You will learn how to prepare your seeds, containers and soil medium and understand planting methods and watering techniques. You will also have the opportunity to take home a container of microgreens.

Caryl Watterson is the owner of BrynTeg Farm LLC of Ashippun/Oconomowoc, WI. Farmer Caryl grew up helping grow food for her family on the family’s dairy farm. She started her market-farm business in 2009, and

began selling produce at local farmers’ markets and through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), providing a box of produce directly to individuals and families on a weekly or biweekly basis. Today, the farm continues with CSA offerings, but its produce is also included in a local artisan grocery delivery service and is in-corporated in the menus of several local farm-to-fork restaurants. Farmer Caryl enjoys and desires to teach the next generation about good food and farming practices. Putting action behind words, the farm actively participates in farm-to-school endeavors in coordination with Sprouting Together Inc., a local not-for-profit organization.

SMALL PLANTS BIG IMPACTNative Restoration

Danielle BellThink your yard is too small for native plants? Think again! There are many native species for small landscapes that don’t need a lot of room to grow and are respectful of their neighbors. Native plants provide the necessary habitat, food and shelter that native birds and pollinators need throughout the entire year.

As the owner of Native Roots LLC, Danielle Bell uses native plants for their aesthetics and more importantly to provide food and habitat for insects, birds and mammals. Danielle has years of experience restoring

native landscapes in wetlands, prairies and wood-lands throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. She has conducted field work for invasive species monitoring/eradication and native plant surveys. She has also built an extensive knowledge of native plant identification and focuses on the import-ance of using native plants to provide habitat for our native wildlife. Danielle received two degrees from UW-Milwaukee in Architectural Design and Conservation of Environmental Services focusing on sustainable design. She actively volunteers with local Nature Centers and is a member of the Wild Ones. Her passion is to restore sterile, turf monocultures into healthy, sustainable, diverse habitats that both people and animals can enjoy.
