WINNIPEG JETS VS. LOS ANGELES KINGS MTS CentreFriday, October 4, 2013 –7 PM (CT)Game 2                 (1-0-0) Home Game 1       (0-0-0)

GAME PREVIEW The first and only time the Winnipeg Jets (1-0-0) have welcomed the Los Angeles Kings (1-0-0) to MTS Centre was on Dec. 27/11during the team’s inaugural season. The result was a low scoring affair, decided by a single goal scored in overtime by Evander Kane. The Kings, who went on to win the Stanley Cup in 2011-12, will face the Jets more frequently now that they’re in the same conference.Oct. 4 marks one of three matchups between the two teams this season with a second game at MTS Centre on Mar. 6.

TEAM NOTES Facing four goals againstThe Jets needed each of their five goals to win on Tuesday night at Rexall Place, overcoming a two-goal deficit to the Oilers to win 5-4.It was a rare feat in 2012-13 for Winnipeg to win in a game where they allowed four-or-more goals. The Jets surrendered at least fourgoals in 18 games last season and had a record of 2-16-0 in those games. The Jets scored five goals in a game three times lastseason, winning each time. Power play reliefThe Jets relieved the pressure of the season’s first power play goal when Mark Scheifele scored on their first man advantage of thegame. The power play marker was also Scheifele’s second career NHL goal. Winnipeg finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play(25.0%). Through last season, the Jets converted on 20-of-145 power play opportunities for a conversion rate of 13.8%. DustinByfuglien led the Jets in power play goals (4) and points (10).  Two-goal deficitsWinnipeg overcame an Oilers’ two-goal lead in the third period on Tuesday to win 5-4. The Jets were able to overcome a two-goaldeficit to win only twice last season, in consecutive games on Jan. 25 versus Pittsburgh (4-2 W) and Jan. 27 versus the New YorkIslanders (5-4 OTW). Back-to-backs: Hosting the second halfThe Los Angeles Kings arrive in Winnipeg in the second half of a back-to-back. The first half took place in Minnesota on Thursdaynight. The Jets will host a visiting team on the second half of a back-to-back nine times this season.  Hosting the second half this season:

PLAYER NOTES Welcome to the NHLJacob Trouba put the NHL on watch with his first career game on Tuesday night, leading the Jets with 25:02 TOI and also contributingtwo points (1G, 1A) in a 5-4 win. Trouba, along with Mark Stuart and Dustin Byfuglien, also led the team in blocked shots with fourapiece.

Scoring in your first gameScoring in your first NHL game as Jacob Trouba did is rare, especially for defencemen. Only two blue liners scored in their first NHLgame last season: Detroit’s Brian Lashoff and Calgary’s Mark Cundari. Trouba isn’t the only active member of the Winnipeg Jets toscore a goal in his first career game: Bryan Little, Blake Wheeler, Dustin Byfuglien and Devin Setoguchi all found their mark duringtheir first night of NHL action. However, Jacob Trouba and Devin Setoguchi are the only two active members to have multiple points intheir first career game. Setoguchi ripped two goals in his first game –including the game winner –with the San Jose Sharks on Oct.29/07. Byfuglien’s trio of helpersDustin Byfuglien started his season off by collecting three assists in a 5-4 win in Edmonton on Tuesday. The big blue liner, whofinished tied for ninth overall in points by defencemen with 28 points last season, is no stranger to multi-point games. The last timeByfuglien recorded three assists in one game was last season in a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 12. The threeassists ties his highest single-game assists total which he has accomplished four times in his career.  Frolik loves Game OneNewly acquired Jets forward Michael Frolik made a great first impression with his new club by finding the back of the net twice inTuesday night’s game in Edmonton. Frolik’s second marker of the night turned out to be the game winning goal, the sixth GWG of hiscareer. This now marks the second season in a row where Frolik has scored the game winning goal in the first game of the season.Frolik did the same with Chicago in a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 19/13. The 25-year-old had the King’s number lastseason as he had five points (3G, 2A) against them, registering at least a point in all three games versus Los Angeles.  Little hits 100The Jets number one centre got the 2013-14 season going by hitting a major career milestone. Bryan Little has now fooled opposinggoaltenders 100 times in his career after registering his 100th career goal on Tuesday night in Edmonton. The goal has him sitting infourth place - the top ranked active member - among the franchise’s all-time leading goal scorers. He trails only Marian Hossa,Vyacheslav Kozlov and Ilya Kovalchuk for the club’s record. Little’s highest single season goal total was in 2008-09 where hit lit thelamp 31 times that season.  Adding playoff experienceThe Winnipeg Jets’ most significant additions this offseason bring a wealth of postseason experience with them. Forwards DevinSetoguchi and Michael Frolik are already some of the most experienced playoff players on the Winnipeg Jets roster, with Setoguchitying Jets captain Andrew Ladd for having played the most Stanley Cup Playoff games (53). Frolik has played 34 career playoff gamesand was an integral part of the 2013 Stanley Cup winning Chicago Blackhawks recording 10 points (3G, 7A) in 23 postseason games.
