Jim Parady, who has guided the Marist football program through over two decades of growth, is in his 23rd sea-son as the program’s head coach and 24th overall with the Red Foxes.

Entering the 2014 season with 115 victories, Parady is the winningest coach in program history. During his tenure, Parady has coached conference championship teams and has had student-athletes excel both on and off of the playing field. The Red Foxes have made the jump from Division III to FCS status, moved into a newly-renovated stadium, won four league championships and joined the Pioneer Football League on Parady’s watch.

As head coach, Parady has posted a 115-116-1 record, including 11 winning seasons. The Red Foxes won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League championship in 1994, 2006 and 2007, and the Pioneer Football League championship in 2013.

In 2013, Parady led the Red Foxes to one of their most memorable seasons in program history. Marist won a share of the PFL championship for the first time, set a varsity program record with eight victories and set single-season records for total yards and points scored. Parady was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award as the Football Championship Subdivision’s Coach of the Year, and was named PFL Coach of the Year. The Red Foxes had their first NFL Draft choice in program his-tory following the season, as defensive end Terrence Fede was chosen in the seventh round with the 234th overall pick by the Miami Dolphins. Fede was named PFL Defensive Player of the Year, and was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award as top defensive player in the FCS. Parady was also instrumental in the development of Chuckie Looney, who set the program’s single-season and career records for completions, attempts, passing yards and passing touchdowns.

A native of Nashua, N.H., Parady attended the Univer-sity of Maine, earning a bachelor’s degree in education in 1983. He was a four-year member of the football team as a quarterback.

Parady and his wife, Kristen, reside in Poughkeepsie with their two children, Sarah Jane and Brett Kenneth. Sarah is a sophomore manager for the Marist football team.

HISTORY WITH DRAKE: Marist is 0-4 all-time against Drake. The Red Foxes’ first PFL game in program history came against the Bulldogs on Sept. 12, 2009 at Tenney Stadium, a contest Drake won 34-6.

TURNOVER MACHINE: Senior FS Zach Adler, who had eight intercep-tions in the previous two seasons, is responsible for four turnovers this sea-son. Adler has had an interception in each of Marist’s first three games, and had a fumble recovery at Sacred Heart on Aug. 30. His three interceptions are tied for first in the FCS.

LONG PUNT RETURN: Senior Zach Adler had his first collegiate touch-down vs. Georgetown on Sept. 13 on a 91-yard punt return. The return is the longest in the FCS so far this season. It was the first time Adler returned a punt this season, and it was the sixth return in his career, as he had five in the 2012 season.

IF YOU’RE WONDERING ... : The interception by senior FS Zach Adler against Georgetown on Sept. 13 was the 11th of his career. The program re-cord for interceptions is held by Mario Wilson, who had 18 from 1994-97.

TOP TACKLE TOTAL AS WELL: Senior FS Zach Adler has set career highs in tackles in each of Marist’s first two games of this season, with 10 at Sacred Heart on Aug. 30 and 12 vs. Bucknell on Sept. 6. He leads the Red Foxes with 29 tackles through three games.

MILESTONES FOR ARMANI: Fifth-year senior WR Armani Martin passed the 1,500-yard receiving mark for his career on Sept. 6 vs. Bucknell, and currently has 1,507 career receiv-ing yards. He enters the Drake game with 98 career receptions. The recep-tion total ranks fourth in program his-tory, and the yardage total is fifth.

CLOSING IN ON 100 AND 1,000: Senior WR Matt Tralli is now fifth in program history with 93 career recep-tions. Tralli also as 996 career receiv-ing yards. He leads the Red Foxes in

both categories (13-128) this year.

TOUGH BEGINNING STRETCH: In addition to facing an NEC team (Sacred Heart) and two Patriot League teams (Bucknell, Georgetown) in non-conference play, the Red Foxes’ first two PFL games are against the only two teams in the league they’ve never defeated - Drake and San Diego.

FIRST NFL DRAFT CHOICE: DE Ter-rence Fede, the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and a Buck Buchan-an Award finalist last season, became the program’s first NFL draft choice when he was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round with 234th overall pick of this year’s draft. Fede is the program’s single-season and career record-holder for sacks. He became the second Marist football player to sign with an NFL team, as WR Michael Rios signed free-agent contracts with the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.

AND ON THE 53: Terrence Fede has made the Miami Dolphins’ 53-man opening day roster. Fede was inac-tive for the team’s first two games this season.

SEVEN HOME GAMES: Marist will play a program-record seven home games in the 2014 season.

PERIODIC ROAD GAMES: Marist has one scheduled road game in each month of the 2014 regular season: Sacred Heart (Aug. 30), Drake (Sept. 20), Valparaiso (Oct. 4) and Stetson (Nov. 8).

STREAK SNAPPED: Marist’s loss to Sacred Heart on Aug. 30 snapped a streak of five straight victories by the road team in the series.

SEASON OPENERS: In its 37 years as a varsity program, Marist is 16-21 in season openers.

PRESEASON PROGNOSTICA-TIONS: Marist was chosen to finish sixth in the Pioneer Football League preseason poll. The Red Foxes had three selections to the Preseason All-PFL Team: RB Atiq Lucas, LB Paul Sakowski and S Zach Adler.

LOSSES FROM LAST SEASON: Marist lost a total of 12 starters from last year’s team. Included in that group are DE Terrence Fede (program’s first NFL draft choice), QB Chuckie Looney (program’s single-season and career record holder in completions, attempts, passing yards and passing touchdowns) and four-fifths of last year’s starting offensive line (LT Peter Evans, LG Rocco Manfre, RG Bran-don Castelbuono and RT Phede Celestin. Celestin was named an FCS All-American, and he and Evans were First Team All-PFL selections. Manfre was named Second Team All-PFL). Defensively, in addition to Fede, Marist lost an All-PFL performer in FS Nick Kaszei (Second Team).

BUT LOTS OF EXPERIENCE BACK: This season, Marist will rely heavily on its 37 players who are either fourth- or fifth-year seniors. The Red Foxes’ six captains are all fifth-year seniors, and include the team’s three starting linebackers in Mike Kagafas, Hugh Kirwan and Paul Sakowski. Sakows-ki has started every game at middle linebacker since the beginning of the 2011 season.

RECORD-SETTER AT RECEIVER: WR Armani Martin returns for his fifth season after setting the program record with 12 touchdown receptions. Martin leads an experienced group which also include senior Matt Tralli, who led the team with 50 receptions last seasons.

STRONG BACKFIELD: One of the strentghs of this year’s team is the depth and experience at running back. Fifth-year senior Atiq Lucas

led the team with 798 rushing yards last season, and tied Armani Martin for the team high in touchdowns with 12. A Second Team All-PFL selection last year, Lucas had three 100-yard rushing performances in last year’s final five games, and scored six touchdowns in the team’s final three games. He leads a group which also includes seniors Wale Onakoya and Jared Lynch, junior Garrett Clay and sophomore Marcellus Calhoun and Leon Cummings.

FROM BASEBALL TO FOOTBALL: Fifth-year senior TE Zach Passerelle is using his final year of eligbility on the football team after being the prima-ry catcher on the Marist baseball team for the past two seasons. Passerelle is contributing as a reserve as well as on special teams.
