About the Conference
Conference on Green and Lean production is the only such conference onthe Croatian territory and our neighboring region. This conference is a stimulating factor for Croatian companies to go with the implementation of the principles of Green and Lean production and to thereby increase their competitive advantage before entering the EU market, where these principles are already widely used.
Green and Lean production is the future of not only manufacturing but also service companies, and with its wide application provides status of socially and environmentally responsible behavior.
First Conference on the Green and Lean production took place in the concert hall Vatroslav Lisinski on 16.11.2011. in Zagreb. Managers of largest Croatian companies participated, such as Ina, Podravka, Belupo, Končar, Franck, Toyota Adria, Coca Cola, etc. The conference brought together a world known experts and consultants in the eld of Lean management, Dr. Michael Ballé, a double winner of Shigeo Shingo Awards for outstanding work in the eld of Lean Management, Ph.D. Sc. Joachim Warschat, head of management development at SIMT-in, Tetsuya Kaida, project manager of the Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, Carole Favart from Toyota Motor Europe R & D, and local experts in the eld of Lean manufacturing, Ph.D. Sc. Ivica Veža i Ph.D. Sc. Nedeljko Štefanić.
Second conference wants to encourage even more companies to go with the implementation of the principles of green and lean production and to thus enhance its competitiveness before the Croatian accession to the European market. GALP Conference 2012 consists of two parts. The rst part includes lectures by the experts in the eld of green and lean production, such as Professor Achim Kampker from RWTH Aachen University (Lean manufacturing of electric cars), representatives of WWF, one of the world's largest conservation organization, who will speak about the development and strategy of green industries in the EU by 2020. The special value of this conference is to meet and share experiences with executives who have implemented green and lean production.
General information on LEAN
LEAN management means creating greater value for the customer by using fewer resources. Elimination of losses in the process instead of just in certain parts of the system creates processes that need less human eort, less space, less capital and less time to generate a product or perform service.
Also, LEAN management signicantly reduces the possibility of errors and delays in production or business operations compared to traditional enterprise systems. LEAN management is easiest to describe through its ve principles:
1. Determine the value for the customer2. Value stream mapping3. Achieve ow values4. Establish withdrawal5. Strive for perfection.
General information on GREEN
Main goal of GREEN approach to manufacturing production and service activities is to reduce waste and environmental impact. This objective is usually achieved through the design of processes and products according to the green standards. Green manufacturing is sustainable production, and as such it takes into account the wishes and needs of the economy, society and environment. As with LEAN production, here occurs eight kinds of losses. GREEN production is based on the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and reduces costs because it makes the company more ecient. Newly diagnosed strengths of LEAN and GREEN production are numerous and include, among others:
LEAN management denes eight types of losses: overproduction, spoilage, unnecessary movements, unnecessary inventory, over-processing, waiting, transportation, and insucient use of potential employees. In order to eliminate losses, management uses its LEAN tools such as Kaizen, 5S, Kaikaku, Value Stream Mapping, JIT, TPM and others. Because of the comprehensiveness of its principles and tools, LEAN management is ideal for use in manufacturing and service companies, as well as state and local governments.
Extraordinary potential to reduce the cost of resources Increased customer loyalty Greater attractiveness of the product Greater possibility of new employment Increased capacity growth Encouraging innovation, proactive, new technology
Increasing the company's prot
Results of applying lean and green principles Shortening the production cycle (Airbus, 36%), Increased productivity ( Boeing 39%), Decrease in inventories (Rockwell Collins, 46%), Shortening the time to change the tool (Coca cola, 67%), Reducing the number of injuries (Nestle, 63%), Reducing energy consumption per vehicle (Toyota, 40%), Reduction of water consumption (Cemex, 51%), The share of energy used in the production obtained from
renewable energy (Interface, 25%).
