Combining dependable debit, ATM and point-of-sale (POS) processing with STAR STATION online management, First Data has helped DNB First increase debit and POS volumes as well as overall ATM transactions. Most recently, First Data has helped DNB First upgrade its fraud prevention capabilities with its state-of-the-art Fraud and Risk Premium Package (FRPP). THE CHALLENGE

Founded in 1860, DnB First is the oldest independent bank in southeastern Pennsylvania’s Chester and Delaware counties. its 13 branches offer personal, reliable, comprehensive financial services to their communities. For First Data, the challenge has been to deliver that same level of service and reliability as the provider of DnB First’s debit card and Atm processing and state-of-the-art fraud prevention programs.

THE SOLUTION

For Frank monterosso, DnB First’s senior vice president of operations, the decision to stay with First Data remains an easy one. “First Data and stAr are clearly at the head of their class when it comes to processing, Atm operations and combating fraud. that’s very beneficial for a bank our size.”

And First Data has lived up to that reputation for DnB First. “it all starts with service—for us and for our customers,” monterosso explains. “the first consideration for us is that our Atms are consistently up and running. With First Data, i can’t remember a time when we’ve had Atms down. For any bank, keeping Atms up and running means increased revenue.”

DnB First also uses First Data’s stAr stAtion Web portal to manage its debit card database. “stAr stAtion gives us an array of variables to assist in our card and Atm program management,” monterosso says. “i’m able to generate management reports that give me the information i need to make informed decisions about, for example, how profitably a particular Atm is performing. it’s information that definitely helps us maximize our transaction volume and revenue.”

monterosso depends on First Data to bring him new ideas and new services, most recently an upgrade to DnB First’s fraud prevention capabilities with First Data’s Fraud and risk Premium Package (FrPP). “We’ve taken our fraud prevention to a new level,” he says. “using FrPP and the stAr stAtion portal, we have the ability to identify fraud in a real-time setting and respond by locking down a particular card or merchant that may be vulnerable or even locking out a country.”

THE RESULTS

“Fraudulent cases have decreased dramatically,” monterosso observes. “And there’s a direct correlation between the decrease in cases and dollars lost. that’s a real benefit to our bank and to our customers. First Data’s also helped us offer our customers the convenience that leads to increased transaction volume. signature debit volume has increased by 30 percent in the last 16 months alone, all our Atm debit transactions have grown at a tremendous rate, and point-of-sale volume has grown even faster. And our customer satisfaction is high, too.

“You know, you always look at the bottom line. But the intangibles like quality of service, the relationship we have with First Data, and their leadership in the financial services industry are what keep us with them. i can’t see any processor doing a better job than First Data.”
