Editors Letter

Welcome to our JULY edition of LINK, its been a great last month with the fantastic Fleetwood Carnival so well done to all that took part and made the 175th year a special one. RNLI Midsummer Nights Walk attracted over 1600 people this time, a record turnout and over £2000 raised well done! Glad we could help with some free advertising - Let’s break the 2000 people barrier next year.

Don’t forget coming up this month on the 17th July is the return of the biggest FREE event of its kind, the Fleetwood Festival of Transport “Tram Sunday 2011” and I believe a tram will be present on the day, so lets support it! LINK had the pleasure of creating the programme for the event so look out soon for copies.

Due to the success of raising the copies to 12,000 and covering all of FY7 we have taken the decision after a successful trial to make it permanent in 2011. You may also have noticed a slight change to our covers as we’ve given it a fresh look.

Congratulations LINK-Spotter John Heyes of Fleetwood who won our ‘Where am I?’ Competition. £50 is on its way to you. Also well done to M Clark of Thornton for winning your free MOT at James Jacksons.

Next month LINK-FY7 will be celebrating the 175th Year by creating a special edition - check out page 25 fro details.

SAVE MONEY ?HELP THE ENVIRONMENT ?

RETURN SANITY TO YOUR HOME ?

For too long we have been throwing out perfectly good elec-trical items such as televisions, sky boxes, hi-fi

equipment, computers and laptops simply because they have developed faults.

Not so long ago a television would last you 10-15years and probably require a service or repair every couple of years.

Not so now with televisions lasting no more than 18months.

So why not SAVE YOUR MONEY and have it repaired?

One problem has been the demise of many local repair com-panies: many did not keep up with the emerging technologies and simply went out of business.

The answer is simple, contact

THE ELECTRONICS WORKSHOP LTD, a local company offering the very best service to

local people.

Can we repair your faulty items? You will be surprised at just what we can repair. We also supply new and

reconditioned televisions..

Blackpool Windows and Solar Energy (BWSE)

Is a family run business that has been supplying and fitting quality doors, windows and conservatories across the Fylde Coast and Lancashire for many years.

The company has recently expanded into green energy conservation by including PV panels in its portfolio of products.David Williams, the proprietor of BWSE said ‘PV panels are fitted onto the roof of domestic and commercial properties and convert the suns energy into electrical energy which is the current that we use in our houses

By generating this energy you can help power your own home and also receive a guaranteed feed in tariff from the

Government for the next 25 years and the tariff is index linked so will keep pace with inflation. It’s a fantastic way to beat the inevitable electricity bill rises and to also receive an income from the Government.

We can take you through the initial design to the final installation and will ensure all your questions are answered so that you are fully aware of the system and requirements. We also complete all the paperwork to obtain the feed in tariff so that the whole process is easy and painfree’.

Companies have to adhere to a strict accreditation process which provides reassurance to the customer that the work and system is being fitted to the correct standards. PV panels have already taken off in other parts of the country and demand has increased with the recent

announcements of price rises by the energy companies. Some forecasters predict the increase could be as high as 19% so it makes sense to be get ready now and not have to worry this winter.

BWSE also continue to provide doors, windows and conservatories as well as PV panels so if you would like more information about any of these product please call us on 01253 824109/07753583602.

There are no flashy salesman and no hard sell methods, we want our customers to be 100% happy with the quality, workmanship and price from Blackpool Windows Solar and Energy and most of our work comes from returning customers and recommends.

Start making money today and install PV panels onto your roof, you’ll be glad you did.

Wedding Bells ring at Highbury for the First TimeThe Chairman of Fleetwood Town FC and his bride-to-be will be the very first couple to hold their wedding celebrations at the new Highbury Stadium.

Andy Pilley and Gemma Caton will celebrate their marriage this Saturday, 25th June, making full use of the club’s new £4.5m grandstand facilities.

More than 300 guests were invited to the wedding, which included a sparkling Champagne reception in a marquee located on the football ground.

The celebrations began in the club’s new 180-seater Parkside Hospitality Suite which opened earlier this year; photographs of the newly-weds, their families and friends will be shown on the Club’s 25m² stadium screen.

Guests were directed to the marquee where Twelve Event Management hosted a Champagne reception with canapés, followed by a three-course wedding breakfast.

Dishes, prepared by Twelve’s Chef Proprietor Paul Moss and his team, included a seafood starter of Fleetwood caught langoustine and quail’s egg followed by a main course of char-grilled fillet of Forest of Bowland beef. For dessert, guests savoured a delicious selection of mini-chocolate desserts.

During the evening reception, guests also mingled in the popular Jim’s Sport’s Bar, where live music and evening canapés including beer battered Fleetwood Cod Army fish and chips.

Among the many special touches for the wedding, were an ice sculpture, chocolate fountain, children’s entertainment and a dazzling fireworks display.

Special care has been taken to protect the club’s football pitch throughout the wedding celebrations with use of mounted flooring to ensure the newly seeded turf prepared ahead of the forthcoming 2011/12 season, is kept in pristine condition.

Louise Morley, Hospitality & Banqueting Manager at Fleetwood Town FC, said: “Fleetwood Town FC is hosting its very first wedding in the new look Highbury stadium, and fittingly, it is our Chairman and his bride who take this inaugural step. It will be another milestone in the club’s history and, obviously a very special day for Andy, Gemma, their families and friends.”

Caroline Upton, Joint Proprietor of Twelve Event Management which started working with FTFC earlier this year to provide corporate hospitality, said plans for the wedding had gone extremely smoothly.

She said: It was a great celebration in one of the North West’s newest and most unique wedding locations. Everyone at Twelve wishes the couple a wonderful future together.”

FTFC’s award-winning groundsman Dale Frith said: “All care has been taken to protect the newly seeded playing surface. I’m happy the mounted flooring will do its job and not impact the pitch.”

McGuire ready to push on this termFleetwood Town midfielder, Jamie McGuire, was invited to present the Leavers’ Prizes at Great Arley School recently. McGuire addressed the guests and children with some well-chosen words and good wishes for the future and was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the school:

‘It was good to see how hard the children have worked and well done to the teachers as well. I always enjoy occasions like this, as do the other lads, and we have no problems helping the club to link with the community. Hopefully, I will be able to make a return visit during the season because it is a lovely school.’

Fleetwood Town have developed good links with the Thornton Special School with weekly coaching sessions for the children. Babs Rowley, Assistant 7.5

Year 7 teacher, is delighted with the way in which the partnership is growing:‘Andy Whittaker (Town’s Schools Coach) is in whatever the weather and does both football and other sporting activities. He has worked with all age groups, from 4 to 16. Andy gells wonderfully with the pupils and they look forward to him coming in. It’s been fantastic to see Jamie presenting the prizes today because it gives the children a role model to aspire to.’

munity B

eatHello everyone.

It is with some sadness that I write this month as I am moving to pastures new taking up a new post at the beginning of July. I can say with great pride and satisfaction that the Neighbourhood Policing Team here at Fleetwood have served you very well over recent years. They have brought about great reductions in Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) and crime which I have told you about in detail each month. Now this hasn’t been about figures and numbers though, it has and will continue to be about improving the quality of life for everyone who lives in, works in or visits Fleetwood and I can leave with the satisfaction of knowing we have delivered this for you.

I also leave with the reassurance and knowledge that my successor, Sgt Dan Whitaker, will continue the dedicated work to target those that wish to spoil our town. A task that will be made a bit easier following our decision to bring 2 PCSO’s to Fleetwood from another area and to bring PC Scott McClaren into the department as Community Beat Manager for Mount and Park Wards.

But on to the important business of what we have been doing this last month; We have continued to target the main ASB group from the town centre and identified an address on Milton Street which they have been using as a base from which to annoy and harass the neighbours and beyond. We have worked with the landlord and they will be evicted very soon.

In addition to this we have laid various criminal charges against several members of that group, imposing bail conditions that will force them to stop their ASB.

I previously told you about a plan to prosecute any young person found with alcohol for a 3rd occasion, as allowed in the Policing and Crime Act 2009, and can report that we have just submitted a file to court for the 1st youth in Fleetwood to face this charge. The bike locking plan has begun and already we have potentially prevented 5 bikes from being stolen by locking them where they had been left by careless owners.

Before I sign off I just want to remind you all Tram Sunday is definitely on, it

is Sunday 17th July. Remember the rules regarding drinking of alcohol in public will not be lifted for the day; this is to ensure the event is as intended, a fun day for all the family, one which will bring people and trade to the town. Remember also to look after your possessions, lock up your home and your car and keep your bags closed and zipped. Not everyone is there for the spectacle!

Both events are for the largest class of model yacht recog-nised by the MYA, the International “A” Class. These yachts have an overall length of normally 6.5 to 8 feet, and a height from the bottom of the keel to the top of the mast of around 9 feet.

The first Championship will be for the “free sailing” or “vane-steered” “A” Class yachts, starting at 1-00 pm on Saturday 30th July and finishing on Thursday af-ternoon the 4th August. This will be the 38th occasion that this event has been held at Fleetwood since the Model Yacht Lake was officially opened in 1932 by Admiral Earl Beatty. The National Championship for the radio-controlled version of this class of yacht, known as the “RA” Class, will commence at 10-00am Friday 5th and finish around 4-00pm on Sunday 7th August.

Competitors entering these National Championships will be representing MYA affiliated clubs from many parts of the UK.
