PROGRAMME

• Jupiter — Written between 1914 and 1916, Jupiter (The Bringer of Jollity) is the fourth movement of Gustav Holst’s seven movement suite The Planets. Originally scored for orchestra the work premiered at The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh September 29, 1918. The work was later adapted by the composer for symphonic wind band in 1924. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system and its corresponding astrological character. With the exception of Earth, each planet of the known solar system is represented. Today’s performance of Jupiter will be conducted by Darryn Wright.

• Some Enchanted Evening — From the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein multi-award winning musical South Pacific, the song was a number 1 hit for Perry Como in 1949 and has been recorded by numerous artists over the past 60 years including Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. South Pacific ran on Broadway for 1,925 performances. Today’s performance of Some Enchanted Evening will be performed today by Raphael Wong and conducted by Darryn Wright.
