NIGHT DROOLING STORY: DANIEL SALASPHOTOS: OSCAR CASTANEDA
DOZAL BROTHERS
WITH THE

the Dozal Brothers have been tearing up the El Paso music scene with their infectious brand of 8 bit style electro punk since 2007 and dont plan to slow down. From backyard shows to clubs, the Dozal Brothers always show up and make your feet move and your body groove. I caught up with the band on a Sunday show at Blackmarket.
Daniel Salas-What other names did you think of before going with Dozal Brothers?Gabe Dozal- Well, I just remem-ber we didnt want our name to be stupid so I think we went with a conservative choice, the Dozal Brothers.Robert Dozal- Its our last name. G D-Yeah thats right! Its our last name, we are brothers.R D-You cant get any more safer than that.G D- If I can go back in time I would name ourselves Night Drool.D S- Night Drool?G D- Yeah, and I was even talking to my brother about maybe changing our name to Night Drool. R D- I kinda like the name Single Skull. G D-Yeah, Single Skull is cool. But I
like Night Drool better. D S-How long have you been playing music and when did you decide to start a band?G D-We jammed out cause he (Robert Dozal) was in band (high school) and played the clarinet, the saxophoneR D-bass, guitar and trumpet. D S- How old were you?R D- Uhm 5th grade.G D- We would jam out and I would kind of like push him Come on lets jam out! Come on! Come on! Lets do it! and I would play my guitar or something and would be like Okay, play these notes. I think I wanted him to play drums and keyboards, and then he really wanted to learn how to play guitar and he kind of taught himself and it went off from there. We started playing shows at
the start of 2007.D S- Was there certain bands that made you want to play music?G D- I guess early on like the Pix-ies, that was something that I would put on my brother, You will listen to this and you will like it!R D- Especially when I was younger I would always listen to them I tried to tell my friends about them and they were like, What the hell is that dude? G D- We like a little more indier type stuff like The Fiery Furnaces.D S- What are you listening to right now.G D- I like Fleetwood Mac a lotR D- High Places.G D- Yeah! High Places.R D- Kanye West.D S- Youve done a couple of tours?G D- Yeah weve done like 2 little
tours. In 2007 the summer, we went to East TX, and Shreveport LA. This past summer in 2008 we did Mexico City, Tijuana, Los Angeles CA, Bakers-eld, Oakland, Portland, Seattle and then Vancouver. D S- and its just you two guys on tour?R D- We also drove our friend from LA to San Francisco.G D- We drove back down to Ba-kerseld which was a stupid decision but, yeah.D S- You played South By Southwest (annual Austin TX music confer-ence)?G D- Yeah, we played an unofcial show in 2007. It was fun. It was a good experience. R D- Its hard to get a show if you dont get invites to play a show.D S- How did the sound evolve
