Fun Fundraising – Horse Show Time! Are you looking for a fun and fairly easy way to raise funds for your program? Host your own horse show for your riders! With only 25 riders in our event each year, we have raised about $10,000 per show! If we can do it, you can do it! It does not matter if you are a big program or a small program; this fundraiser puts the fun back into fundraising! With the struggling economy, it has become difficult to raise funds. Having your own horse show, with riders getting sponsors, helps ease the burden on your staff and board members and provides the riders with a great sense of accomplishment! Many of you are already having horse shows for your riders. We will show you how to turn that into a money maker for your program. We hold the show at our barn. We have a local horse professional and/or one of our wonderful donors stand in, one as our guest judge and one as ringmaster. Volunteers help out with leading, tacking, and side-walking and always enjoy seeing the kids show off! The show is open to all of our riders, but in order to participate, they must raise a minimum amount of pledges. Pledges are collected starting about a month prior to the event and can be given in the form of cash, check, or credit card. We encourage participants to get more sponsors by awarding scholarships, championship trophies, and ribbons for various amounts raised. The trophies and ribbons can be used/recycled ones that are donated. Riders are always encouraged to thank their donors directly, but thank yous and acknowledgements are sent out by us, which helps us get many repeat donors. Their information is also put onto our regular mailing list, so that they receive future updates about the program and other fundraisers. Another way to increase revenue is to get class sponsors, who may or may not be present at the show. Riders are split up into classes based on age and ability, with 3-4 participants in each class. Overall, this fundraising opportunity has been a win-win situation for our program and we believe it would be the same for yours. We benefit from the relatively easy fundraising portion of it and our riders and families benefit from the opportunity to show off their abilities to their friends and family.

On Saturday, September 18, 2010 Midwest Therapeutic Riding Program will be hosting the Goodie Memorial Horse Showfor riders with special needs. As children with special needs usually don’t get a chance to participate in horse shows, this is aspecial event for them. We are working hard at making this horse show a great success. We are expecting many participantsand spectators to attend our horse show.

There are two ways you can help make the show successful:

Sponsor a class in the horse show. This is a great way for you to show your support for MTRP. With a contribution of as littleas $25, you can sponsor a class. Your sponsorship will help us give a trophy to every child that participates in our horse show.

Assist in underwriting the cost of the rider t-shirts. Sponsors will be listed on the back of the t-shirts the children and volunteers will be wearing, announced during the show, and posted on signs throughout the barn.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to consider helping MTRP. If you have any questions, please feel freeto contact me at 262.859.2233, or e-mail me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Stephanie KubarthProgram Director

P.S. If you would like to attend the Goodie Memorial Horse Show, please contact me for more information we would loveto see you there!

HorseShow

Dear Parents:

On Saturday, September 18, 2010, Midwest Therapeutic Riding Program will once again host the “Goodie Memorial Horse Show.”

The “Goodie Memorial Horse Show” will have two purposes: to allow all our riders to participate in a horse show and to raisefunds for MTRP.

Like last year this event will be exciting for all the riders. Every child will win a trophy in their class and a photographer will beon hand to take their picture. Riders can also earn prizes for the amount of pledges they receive.

In addition to being a great event for our riders, this is also a great opportunity for you to help raise funds for MTRP. For everylesson that your child participates in, you pay approximately 25% of the actual cost of the lesson. The remaining 75% of theactual cost of a lesson is raised by MTRP through fundraisers and grants. We are asking you to help raise funds so we maycontinue to offer great lessons at low cost to all our riders.

We would love for all our riders to participate! The only requirement we are requesting from riders is to raise a minimum of $75in pledges to participate in the horse show. Any rider that turns in at least $75 in collected pledges will receive a free MTRPt-shirt. All monies and forms must be turned in by September 4, 2010 to count toward prizes and to participate in the show.

Please consider participating in the “Goodie Memorial Horse Show”. This will be a great event that your child will enjoy while atthe same time helping out MTRP. In the coming weeks, we will hand out the rider campaign packet to help assist you in raisingpledges. If you have any questions please call Stephanie at 262.859.2240. With your help we can “Make Dreams Come True.”

With Gratitude,

Stephanie KubarthProgram Director

Hints for Collecting Pledges:We want this event to be both fun for the riders and benefi-cial for MTRP. No amount is too small, we want everyone toparticipate at the level at which they are comfortable. Hereare some ideas to help you collect pledges:

• Check on your company’s matching program.MTRP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and maybe eligible for your company’s matching program. Havethe matching forms on hand and complete the appropri-ate information about MTRP in advance.

• Do you have sponsors on your pledge sheet thatdon’t work for your company? Have them check iftheir employer has a matching program. Make sure youget the completed matching forms when you collect themoney so it will count toward your total.

• When collecting pledges from family and friends, besure to let them know that any amount is great. If youhave set a goal for yourself tell them what it is so theyfeel like they are actively participating with you.

• Don’t forget to thank your sponsors. After you havecollected your donations, please send thank you notes toall your sponsors. Include a picture of you and yourhorse or make a special thank you gift. This lets themknow ho much you appreciate their support and theywill be more likely to sponsor you next year.

What is MTRP?Imagine a place where children with special needs can be themselves. They can bond with a special horse and develop lifelong relationships.Imagine a place where these children can leave behind their crutches, wheel chairs, and therapies to soar to freedom. Imagine a place wheredreams really do come true. When children ride their horse, theybecome independent. They fill the arena with signals or commands to “walk on” or “trot” and the air is filled with laughter and shrieks ofglee. Most of all, the children at MTRP are learning essential life skills, such as talking, signing, walking and focusing on their therapies.

Making Dreams Come True!

Our mission …Improving the lives of children with special needsthrough equine facilitated activities: providing indi-vidualized care to maximize the child’s potential.

The actual cost of a session may vary depending on length of session andwhich therapist/instructor is attending. The above numbers are an averagecost of all lessons.

Did you know …Each therapeutic riding lesson costs MTRP $94.48.That’s $94.48 to make it happen! As a therapeutic rider you pay only $25. That means MTRP must raise the other $69.48.

Another way to look at it …Think of the four legs of a horse. You pay for one leg and MTRP raises what isneeded to support the other three legs!
