PAINTING WITH PASTELS, JOELLE FELDMANTUESDAYS, APRIL 21-MAY 26, 6:30PM-8:30PM$200M, $250NM

A recognized and award-winning professional artist,

Joelle Feldman teaches students fundamental skills and

introduces multiple approaches to painting with pastels.

This class for beginner to intermediate students is about

learning, creativity and fun! Students will learn how to

build a pastel painting from start to finish. We will focus

on composition, texture, color, drawing an outline,

applying an under-painting and gradually building pastel

layers until the painting is complete. Let your creativity

take center stage. You will be amazed at what you can

achieve!

This two-day

workshop will focus

on composition,

class starts with an introduction to materials, including

exploration and experimentation with a variety of pastel

painting surfaces using different grades and brands of

pastel sticks. Instruction and pace may vary based on the

class dynamics and participants’ needs. Open to all levels

of experience.

PASTELS

INTRODUCTION TO PASTEL LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS WITH DAVID KAPHAMMER SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 10AM-3PM $100 MEMBERS, $150 NONMEMBERS

Perfect for beginning and intermediate students, the goal

of this one-day workshop is to integrate under-painting

techniques, and expressive use of color and mark-making

to infuse pastel landscape paintings with light, energy

and motion. Working from photos, preferably your own,

students will complete two or three small paintings on

sanded paper. The workshop will begin with a demo

lasting about 45 minutes,

after which students will

work on their own paintings

with individual coaching

as Kaphammer circulates

among the group. Our

workshop will end with a

critique of student work with

pointers for continuing the

painting momentum after

the day ends.

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY WITH NORM EGGERTSATURDAY, MAY 30 12:30-4:30PM & SUNDAY, MAY 31 10AM-4PM$200 MEMBERS, $250 NONMEMBERS

Learn how to take landscape photographs like a pro!

Landscape photographer Norm Eggert leads beginning

and intermediate students through the essentials for

capturing stunning pictures in this two-day introductory

photography workshop. The class will begin with a visit

to Fruitlands’ photography exhibitions , where we will

analyze composition, lighting, balance and other elements

in the stirring images on display. Next, learn some basic

measures you need to know to take better photographs

and key guidelines for successful landscape photography.

Students will then venture out into the Fruitlands campus

to photograph the grounds and learn to see with a

photographer’s eye through one-on-one coaching and

group tutorials. At the end of day two, students will share

their best works in a group critique that will include tips

for exercising newly acquired skills after the workshop is

complete.

PAINTING & PHOTOGRAPHY

PAINTING MATERIALS & METHODS FOR ACRYLICS AND OILS WITH JILL POTTLETUESDAY, APRIL 28-MAY 26, 9:30AM-12:30PM$200M, $250NM

This course is for beginning and returning painters

who want to acquire fundamental painting skills and

conceptual understanding of contemporary approaches

to painting with oils or acrylics. A dynamic and

accomplished artist, Pottle’s instruction includes weekly

exercises and one-on-one teaching geared to all levels of

experience. Whether picking up a brush for the first time

or the hundredth, students emerge from this five-week

course with greater confidence and a renewed passion

for painting.
