Helpful hints and tipsHints for energy saving• Do not open the door frequently or leave it

open longer than absolutely necessary.• If the ambient temperature is high, the

temperature regulator is on the higher set-ting and the appliance is fully loaded, thecompressor may run continuously, causingfrost or ice on the evaporator. If this hap-pens, turn the temperature regulator to-ward lower settings to allow automatic de-frosting and so a saving in electricity con-sumption.

Hints for fresh food refrigerationTo obtain the best performance:• Do not store warm food or evaporating

liquids in the refrigerator.• Do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it

has a strong flavour.• Position food so that air can circulate freely

around it.Hints for refrigeration• Meat (all types) : wrap in polythene bags

and place on the glass shelf above thevegetable drawer. For safety, store in this way only one ortwo days at the most.

• Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc.: theseshould be covered and may be placed onany shelf.

• Fruit and vegetables: these should be thor-oughly cleaned and placed in the drawer.

• Butter and cheese: these should be placedin special airtight containers or wrapped inaluminium foil or polythene bags to ex-clude as much air as possible.

• Milk bottles: these should have a cap andshould be stored in the bottle rack on thedoor.

• Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic: ifnot packed, must not be kept in the refrig-erator.

Hints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freezingprocess, here are some hints:

• The maximum quantity of food which canbe frozen in 24 hours is shown on the rat-ing plate.

• The freezing process takes 24 hours. Nofurther food to be frozen should be addedduring this period.

• Freeze only top quality, fresh and thor-oughly cleaned foodstuffs.

• Prepare food in small portions to enable itto be rapidly and completely frozen and tomake it possible subsequently to thaw onlythe quantity required.

• Wrap up the food in aluminium foil or pol-ythene and make sure that the packagesare airtight.

• Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touchfood which is already frozen, thus avoidinga rise in temperature of the latter.

• Lean foods store better and longer thanfatty ones; salt reduces the storage life offood.

• Water ices, if consumed immediately afterremoval from the freezer compartment, can possibly cause the skin to be freezeburnt.

• It is advisable to show the freezing in dateon each individual pack to enable you tokeep tab of the storage time.

Hints for storage of frozen foodTo obtain the best performance from this ap-pliance, you should:• Make sure that the commercially frozen

foodstuffs were adequately stored by theretailer.

• Make sure that frozen foodstuffs are trans-ferred from the foodstore to the freezer inthe shortest possible time.

• Do not open the door frequently or leave itopen longer than absolutely necessary.

• Once defrosted, food deteriorates rapidlyand cannot be refrozen.

Care and cleaningCaution! Before carrying out anymaintenance operation, disconnect the

power supply. This appliance contains hydrocarbons in itscooling unit; maintenance and rechargingmust therefore only be carried out by author-ized technicians.

Defrosting of the refrigeratorFrost is automaticallyeliminated from theevaporator of the re-frigerator compart-ment every time themotor compressorstops, during normaluse. The defrost waterdrains out through atrough into a specialcontainer at the back of the appliance, overthe motor compressor, where it evaporates. It is important to periodically clean the de-frost water drain hole in the middle of the re-frigerator compartment channel to preventthe water overflowing and dripping onto thefood inside. Use the special cleaner provi-ded, which you will find already inserted intothe drain hole.No defrosting of the freezerThe freezer compartment of this model, onthe other hand, is a "no frost" type. Thismeans that there is no buildup of frost whenit is in operation, neither on the internal wallsnor on the foods. The absence of frost is due to the continuouscirculation of cold air inside the compartment, driven by an automatically controlled fan.Periods of non-operationWhen the appliance is not in use for long pe-riods, take the following precautions:1. Disconnect the appliance from electricity

supply.2. Remove all food.3. Defrost, if foreseen4. Clean the appliance and all accessories.5. Leave all doors ajar to prevent unpleas-

ant smells. If the cabinet will be kept on, ask somebodyto check it once in a while to prevent the foodinside from spoiling in case of a power fail-ure.
