FLDs at a glance
• 1,557 demonstrations were conducted.
• Total 223.00 ha area was covered.
• Yield increase was 15 to 33% in cereals, 21 to 36
% in pulses, 27 to 35 % in oilseeds, 17 to 54% in
vegetables.
Front Line Demonstrations
Working on the principle of "Seeing is believing" the KVK has under taken
several demonstration on low cost agricultural technologies. The data over control
was scientifically collected, analyzed and in the common interest of other farmers
was given wide publicity, through field days, literature, popular articles etc.
From 2012-13 on word
demonstration were conducted on
oilseed crops like sesame, linseed and
pulses like chickpea, black gram, lentil,
field pea and horse gram. The total area
covered under oilseeds was 55 ha and
under pulses were 88 ha from 2012-13 to 2014-15. The average increase in
productivity of the demonstrated plots over control in 2014-15 was 27% in sesame
and 35.20% in linseed. In case of pulses percentage increase in yield was 36% in
chickpea, 21% in black gram, 27.36% in Field pea, 21% in lentil and 31% in horse
gram over the traditional practices. Because of these there has been large adoption
of new varieties such as chick pea (Vaibhav, JG-130, Jaki 9218, JG 74 etc), black
gram (TU 94-2, KU 96-3 and TAU – 1), sesame (TKG-22 and TKG-8), field pea
(Shubhra, paras), linseed (RLC-92, Indira Alsi 32, Kartika), bio-fertilizers,
integrated pest management, other agronomical practices such as line sowing, ridge
& furrow method of cultivation in maize by the farmers.
The KVK has also tried covering all the major crops of the district under its
demonstration i.e. rice, finger millet, maize, wheat and major vegetables i.e. brinjal,
okra, tomato, chilli. Various demonstrations on improved cultivation technique like
micro irrigation, polythene mulching, fertigation and mechanized farming such as
seed cum fertilizer drill, rice harvesting with reaper, zero till seed drill, hand hoe,
ambika paddy weeder were also conducted.
Rearing of goat, pig, poultry birds are common tribal farmers because these
are included in their food habit. Hence various demonstrations on housing
management, disease management, breed improvement of live stock were conducted
by KVK Kanker. The information on the FLDs conducted by KVK is as under-
